Chapter 22: The Peak Power of the Third Hokage
Chapter 22: The Peak Power of the Third Hokage
【Name: Hiruzen Sarutobi】
【Chakra: 170,000】
【Potential: S】
【Evaluation: Naturally talented in ninjutsu and proficient in combination ninjutsu. While single-nature ninjutsu may not compare to bloodline limits, if I were to simultaneously cast five advanced ninjutsu of different natures, how would you respond, Lord Third?】
"The Third Hokage at his peak," Mu Yue murmured in surprise and admiration as she exited the office, her eyes falling on the string of zeroes that represented his chakra levels.
After all, this was a staggering seventeen thousand chakra points, a full thirteen thousand more than what she had witnessed from Minato.
However, she reminded herself that Minato was only eighteen, and it wouldn't be fair to compare a middle-aged ninja in his prime to one who was still growing.
"Now, how should I write the report for Danzo..." Mu Yue mused, already considering how to craft her report for Danzo, her surprise at the Third's chakra levels giving way to practicality.
She didn't truly lack time; it was just an excuse. While she was indeed busy, she could certainly spare some time to teach Asuma if she wanted to.
Mu Yue could sense that the Third Hokage was trying to curry favor with her, hence his mention of an excellent teacher and the offer of a special jonin position.
However, the Third's sincerity fell short. He offered no immediate benefits, only empty promises.
If the Third had directly addressed her Root affiliation when she entered his office and offered her a position under him, Mu Yue would have immediately rejected Danzo and followed the Third.
But now, the Third was beating around the bush, clearly still hesitating. He was an old flirt, she thought wryly.
If he had agreed immediately, he would have nothing to gain from Danzo, so it was better to find an excuse to buy time and leave the problem to Danzo.
As for whether the Third knew her identity or not, Mu Yue thought it wasn't impossible, but the possibility was slim.
After all, Root was an organization that operated in the shadows, and if the Third, as Hokage and principal, was unaware of their infiltration into the Ninja Academy, then his positions may as well be decorative.
Upon returning to the staff room, Mu Yue was bombarded with curious questions from her colleagues.
"Teacher Mu Yue, what did the Third Hokage call you for? Was it to bestow an award?" Ueda Aya asked excitedly.
"It must be. After all, the exam results were so impressive, and you're a new teacher. Teacher Mu Yue, you're amazing!" Chiya Isamu exclaimed, his respect for Mu Yue growing.
"I suppose he wanted to affirm my teaching achievements," Mu Yue said as she sat down, picking up a brush pen and practicing her calligraphy.
"When will I ever receive acknowledgment from the Third Hokage?" Kimura Sugi remarked, feeling the vast gap between himself and others.
He remembered Mu Yue's initial shyness when she first arrived, and he couldn't believe how quickly she had surpassed him in teaching prowess.
"Just do your best to educate the students," Mu Yue replied, her attention divided between her calligraphy and the conversation.
"Teacher Mu Yue, could I trouble you to cover my afternoon class? Something came up," Chiya Isamu asked, pouring a cup of tea for Mu Yue.
"Sure, I'm free in the afternoon," Mu Yue nodded in agreement.
"Now I understand why your students adore you, Teacher Mu Yue," Chiya Isamu said gratefully.
"By the way, Sugi, could I borrow some money from you? I'll pay you back when we get our salaries," Chiya Isamu continued, turning to Kimura Sugi.
He had intended to borrow from Mu Yue, but he felt too embarrassed since she had already covered so many of his classes.
"How much do you need?" Kimura Sugi inquired. As old friends, he was happy to help.
"Eight ryo should suffice," Chiya Isamu replied after a moment's thought.
"Eight ryo? What do you need that much money for?" Kimura Sugi asked, his hand pausing as he reached for his wallet.
Their salaries as ninja school teachers were only 100,000 ryo per month, and Chiya Isamu was asking to borrow a significant portion of that.
While he didn't mind lending the money, he wanted to understand the reason.
Mu Yue, too, glanced over, curious about the request. The exchange rate set by the Hokage was ten yen to one ryo, so Chiya Isamu was essentially asking for a loan of 80,000 yen.
While this might not be a substantial sum for powerful ninjas, it was still a considerable amount for a jonin teacher.
"What do you mean by spending it all on dates? Going on dates is for my own enjoyment; I have to eat too," Ikehaya tried to justify himself.
"Cut the crap. Would you go to those upscale restaurants if you were alone?" Ueda Aya retorted.
She had tried to advise Ikehaya against it long ago, but he just wouldn't listen.
"She doesn't really like you; she's just using you for your money." Ueda attempted to wake Ikehaya up to reality.
"Impossible! The other day, she even called me 'Big Brother Ikehaya,'" Ikehaya rebutted, his face filled with adoration.
"I'd call you 'big brother' too for eight ryo. I could keep calling you that until you go bankrupt if I wanted to," Ueda said expressionlessly. A simple title like that wouldn't cost her a single piece of meat.
"You..."
"Forget it. Here, take the money, but remember to leave some for yourself," Kimura sighed and eventually lent the money to Ikehaya.
Hearing that Kimura was willing to lend him money, Ikehaya was so overjoyed that he didn't even bother to respond to Ueda's sarcastic remarks. He quickly thanked Kimura and left the office.
Mu Yue thought to herself that if the Fire Shadow had short videos, a series featuring Ikehaya's office antics would probably gain a lot of popularity, and then they wouldn't have to worry about money anymore.
After some internal monologuing, Mu Yue soon calmed down and began practicing calligraphy. Only when it was almost time for class did she put down her brush and head towards the classroom.
As soon as Mu Yue entered the classroom, the students inside became excited.
"Great! It's Teacher Mu Yue teaching ninjutsu today!"
"After taking Teacher Mu Yue's class last time, my transformation technique became much more refined. I hope she'll focus on teaching us the cloning technique this time."
Mu Yue scanned the room and was pleased to see that Obito was absent once again.
Five minutes into the class, Obito rushed into the room in a sprint.
Seeing Mu Yue standing at the lectern, Obito was taken aback.
He thought to himself that he wasn't always late, but every time he was, it seemed to coincide with Mu Yue's substitute lessons. This was not doing him any favors in her eyes.
"Teacher Mu Yue, I..." Obito wanted to explain something.
"Take a seat," Mu Yue gestured for Obito to sit down and then began teaching the cloning technique as most students had requested.
"Damn that Ikehaya! Why didn't he notify Teacher Mu Yue earlier that she'd be substituting the class?!" Obito clenched his fist in frustration.
During the break, Mu Yue called Obito and Might Guy out to ask about their exam results.
"We passed!" Obito and Might Guy proudly declared in unison.
Upon further inquiry, Mu Yue discovered that they had barely scraped by with an average score of sixty, with each of them scoring exactly thirty.
"I don't know why, but my scores this time were better than before. Usually, twenty-five points would be enough to pass," Obito scratched his head, feeling that he had reached his limit.
"It might be because Teacher Mu Yue substituted our class before," Might Guy added.
Even for someone like him, who struggled to absorb knowledge, could clearly feel the difference between Mu Yue and the other teachers.
"Huh? Does that mean the requirements will be even higher next time?" Obito was stunned. He wouldn't be able to handle anything more challenging.
"Passing is my most basic requirement for you. If you can't even achieve that, then you'll have to follow my every instruction," Mu Yue smiled sweetly.
If they couldn't even meet the bare minimum, their rewards would likely be even lower next time.
Obito and Might Guy looked at Mu Yue's smile and were once again reminded of the horror of being swamped with scrolls to transcribe. They shuddered involuntarily and quickly assured her that they would pass the next exam too.
When Mu Yue returned home, she wrote and submitted her report. It didn't take long for Root to respond.
Damn, I was in the middle of writing, and then the school suddenly said that my previous freelance certification was invalid. They're asking me to get a new work certificate, which wasted a lot of time, so the update is late.
