Chapter 22: The Mark for Money
Chapter 22: The Mark for Money
The so-called mark for money, as Li Wu thought, was as simple as counting on his fingers.
There were only a few people willing to spend money on him.
His father, his mother, and Plumpie.
But Li Wu didn't want to take money from his parents, and as for Plumpie, well, even if he sold her, he wouldn't get fifty thousand.
So, they couldn't be the mark Li Wu had in mind.
The one Li Wu had chosen was his boss, Li Kai!
Actually, if we trace it back, Li Wu had marked Li Kai from the moment he laid eyes on him.
Li Wu once thought he could dazzle Li Kai with his brilliant talent, making this mark come running to pay the 'intelligence tax' and support him.
But later, Li Wu came to his senses.
Merely showing off his talent like a peacock wouldn't work; Li Kai wouldn't be interested. So, Li Wu's restless heart calmed down.
However, this calmness didn't mean Li Wu had given up on Li Kai.
After all, he still craved Li Kai's knowledge, first as a Summon Beast Breeder, and later, the resources Li Kai possessed.
So, Li Wu had never planned to let Li Kai off the hook. He merely adjusted his approach and changed his strategy.
Li Wu spent an entire month gathering information and preparing. Finally, a month after Li Wu started working, he was fully prepared and launched his attack on Li Kai.
This attack had a purpose beyond just making Li Kai the mark and paying the money.
Or rather, this wasn't Li Wu's primary goal, and he didn't care much about the fifty thousand.
Although he might not even be able to scrape together ten thousand now, in Li Wu's eyes, a hundred thousand wasn't a significant amount.
What Li Wu valued was the Summon Beast Breeder circle behind Li Kai. In the past month, Li Wu discovered that the Summon Beast Breeder circle was relatively closed off. If you weren't a breeder, you couldn't get in, and it was difficult to obtain core knowledge.
So, Li Wu decided to take a gamble. If he succeeded, he could enter the Summon Beast Breeder circle.
If he failed, Li Wu would lose at most his current job.
After weighing the pros and cons, Li Wu decided to take the risk!
...
July 29th, Quan City, Li Kai's Summoner Curio Shop.
As usual, Li Wu arrived early for work.
He opened the shop, cleaned the premises, organized the goods, and after finishing his tasks, he started working on a product.
Unlike usual, where Li Wu would work until closing time, today, he stopped around 10:30.
After working for a month, Li Wu had a good understanding of his boss's schedule, and he knew Li Kai should be up by now.
So, Li Wu put down his work and knocked on the door at the back of the shop.
Soon, the door opened, and Li Kai poked his head out, glanced at the empty shop, and then looked at Li Wu with confusion.
Li Wu took a deep breath and began his gamble: "There's something I'd like to discuss with you, Boss!"
Li Kai was taken aback. He sensed something unusual about Li Wu and vaguely felt trouble approaching. Still, he asked, "What's the matter?"
Li Wu was indeed nervous about his gamble, but as he spoke, his heart calmed, and he stated his request calmly.
"I'd like to borrow your workshop, and some materials, too."
Li Kai fell silent, considering Li Wu's request.
After a month of working together, they had come to understand each other to some extent.
Li Kai was well aware that Lu Wu had been diligently working towards becoming a Summon Beast Breeder, and he knew that Lu Wu had set his sights on him early on.
When Lu Wu spoke up, it was a clear signal that he was making his move.
Deep down, Li Kai couldn't help but acknowledge Lu Wu's efforts.
Or rather, he acknowledged Lu Wu's determination, but that didn't mean he would accept him or guide him into the world of Summon Beast Breeders.
On the one hand, Li Kai understood better than anyone that hard work was the cheapest currency in the path of a Summon Beast Breeder.
On the other hand, Li Kai simply didn't have the time or energy to mentor Lu Wu, especially since he himself hadn't even entered that world yet!
So, after a brief moment of silence, Li Kai made his decision.
"I know what you want to do, but give it up. I..."
Li Kai was about to refuse when Lu Wu interrupted him.
"If I'm not mistaken, you've been busy for the past month trying to advance the Summon Beast in your workshop, right? Let me be blunt, you're going down the wrong path! Your experiment will never succeed!"
Lu Wu's words were astonishing, but Li Kai remained expressionless.
Over the past month, Lu Wu had been cleaning the workshop daily, so it wasn't surprising that he could guess what Li Kai was up to.
Lu Wu knew that this alone wouldn't impress Li Kai, so he added more.
"The Summon Beast in your workshop is called Cord Grass, a Plant-type Summon Beast with a 1-star strength and ordinary quality.
In the past month, you've conducted three experiments to try and advance it.
The methods you used were mostly the same, but the main materials differed each time.
You used Ancient Vine Juice, Peach Wood Core, and Stinky Ape Spirit Blood, and all three experiments failed, didn't they?"
This revelation surprised Li Kai.
Lu Wu cleaned his workshop daily, and guessing what experiment Li Kai was conducting wasn't unexpected.
But Lu Wu's ability to name the three primary materials used caught Li Kai off guard.
When Lu Wu cleaned, the materials were often reduced to pulp, making it challenging to identify their components, let alone the main ingredient, unless Lu Wu had been secretly observing the experiments.
This thought made Li Kai's gaze towards Lu Wu intense.
"Don't look at me like that. It's quite easy to deduce this.
You get the materials from the store, and I have the material lists. With that, analyzing the primary materials isn't difficult."
Li Kai was taken aback by Lu Wu's words. He had forgotten about the material lists.
"But the quantities on the lists are different each time, and there are over a dozen materials. Even if the main material changes, you still managed to identify those three. How?"
Li Kai's question made Lu Wu's lips curve upwards.
Finally, Li Kai had asked the right question, and Lu Wu could show off.
Without hesitation, Lu Wu took out a notebook and handed it to Li Kai.
