Chapter 22: The Interfering Female Hunter
Chapter 22: The Interfering Female Hunter
Lin Sai was utterly baffled.
The female hunter who was supposed to teach him tomorrow was being so proactive?
She couldn't even wait a single night and came to claim him ahead of time?
"Dan, you're really not playing by the rules," Lin Sai said, still in shock. Finn frowned and stepped in to block the female hunter, "He's still just a child, you'll scare him."
The female hunter noticed Finn's intervention.
Her mouth twisted involuntarily, and she propped one hand on the table, laughing out loud,
"Child?"
"Finn, this 'child' isn't as well-behaved as you think!"
"Do you know what he did?"
Lin Sai was completely confused by the female hunter's words.
Since entering the town, he had been diligently learning from the Awakened in the town, and had never done anything out of line.
Her attitude now left him utterly bewildered.
Finn, who had spent the day with Lin Sai, was also puzzled and continued to frown as he asked,
"Dan, if you have something to say, just say it."
The female hunter glanced at Lin Sai with a meaningful look before replying,
"This kid, a few days ago in the forest outside the town, actually killed an ice boar with his bare hands and a clever plan."
"My God! He's only... only..."
The female hunter wanted to continue, but suddenly realized she had forgotten Lin Sai's age.
Finn, who was an old acquaintance of the female hunter, reminded her,
"Thirteen years old."
"Oh, right, only thirteen years old!"
The female hunter nodded vigorously and continued in her exaggerated tone,
"At this age, to single-handedly hunt an ice boar, which can cast spells! Have you ever seen a child do something like this at this age?"
"Those ancient heroes from the legends of the Stellar Era?"
Finn's expression also turned to surprise at this point.
Although ice boars weren't considered powerful beasts, their ability to launch ice spears from a distance made them extremely dangerous, even for an adult unarmed.
It was hard to imagine how a child like Lin Sai could have accomplished such a feat.
The botanist, curious, continued to ask for more details,
"Dan, how did you find out about this?"
He then looked at Lin Sai, his tone curious and disbelieving,
"Kid, did this guy get it wrong?"
Seeing the two Awakened staring at him intently, their expressions varying but all equally astonished,
Lin Sai scratched his head embarrassedly,
"The process was quite thrilling."
"I was just lucky and managed to defeat the ice boar by chance."
"Hear that? The kid himself admits it." Seeing Lin Sai's admission, Dan casually poured a glass of water from the front hall and gulped it down, "It was yesterday. Because of the beast's appearance, An Rui went out to check but found nothing, so I went to investigate today."
"Right next to a rock, guess what?"
"There was an ice boar, its body pierced by a wooden stake, lying in the forest some distance from the town. My other hunters don't have the habit of leaving their prey behind, so I thought something big had happened."
Finn interjected,
"You thought there were more outsiders?"
Dan glanced at Lin Sai,
"This kid can be thrown here by spatial techniques, so anything else is possible. In the afternoon, I was even considering organizing a long hunt to check the edge of the world!"
Finn continued,
"So how did you figure it out in the end?"
Dan spread her hands,
"You know, it was just what the Red Moon Lady said about the beast's appearance."
Fen'en also remembered at this moment.
A few days ago, during their meeting at the chapel, the Red Moon nun had reminded An Rui that there might be beasts around the town.
Now it seems that this matter has come true with Lin Sai before them.
The Red Moon nun's words, "My disciple has good talent," were not a joke!
But perhaps it was because a child killing a beast was too shocking.
So when explaining to them, the Red Moon Lady didn't mention Lin Sai.
Fen'en understood the situation.
However, he still didn't plan to let Dan take Lin Sai away immediately, so he asked a very direct question:
"I know Lin Sai is smart and can even defeat strong opponents, killing the beast."
"But this matter, and you wanting to take him away early, seems unrelated."
Dan immediately protested:
"How can it be unrelated!"
"This shows his talent, and if I don't teach him well, wouldn't it be a waste of such excellent talent?"
Fen'en continued calmly:
"So it has to be tonight? Won't you teach him well tomorrow?"
Dan seemed prepared for this question, and the moment Fen'en finished speaking, she confidently replied:
"Practice is the best teacher!"
"I plan to take him for a walk in the forest to understand the essentials of being a hunter firsthand. As for going into the forest—you know, a few hours in the morning won't be enough preparation."
"So tonight, I plan to have a good talk with this kid and also prepare for entering the forest."
Fen'en nodded slightly; he was a reasonable person.
As long as Dan didn't show all her impulsiveness like before when trying to take the child, he wouldn't deliberately make things difficult.
So, Fen'en asked the final question:
"Does the Red Moon Lady know about this?"
"..."
"She doesn't?"
The female hunter fell silent when questioned by Fen'en.
She looked around the study as if searching for something, and after a while, she forced a pleasing smile towards Fen'en:
"But I'm also doing this for the kid's sake, right?"
Fen'en stared at Dan, continuing to question:
"So you want to hide this from the Lady, take her disciple away, and keep him for a whole day and night?"
"Alright, alright, I get it."
The female hunter couldn't argue with Fen'en, so she scratched her hair in defeat, looking like she had a bird's nest on her head:
"Really, I shouldn't have come to your house to pick up this kid. I'll just wait until he goes out and then take him, okay?"
Seeing this, Fen'en wanted to continue persuading:
"Dan, you shouldn't..."
"I know, I know." The female hunter was defeated by Fen'en's attitude and honestly raised her hand in assurance, "I'll take him to the chapel right now and explain this matter to the Red Moon Lady. Is that okay?"
Only then did Fen'en nod in satisfaction, no longer nagging by the female hunter's ear.
Lin Sai politely bid farewell to Fen'en, and they agreed to meet here again in four days for lessons.
After that, Lin Sai followed the female hunter, and they headed towards the chapel together.
On the way, Dan started her incessant questioning:
"Kid, do you like meat?"
"With your talent, you can have as much meat as you want."
"Studying all day must be boring!"
"No one in the forest will restrict you; you can do whatever you want. If you have time, you can even build a base for yourself in a tree."
"Also, you know, the people in town are envious of hunters."
