Chapter 219: The Dark Bishop
Chapter 219: The Dark Bishop
Within just a few minutes, a river of blood flowed outside the bunker, as a fierce battle raged on, shaking the very ground.
An army of monsters charged towards the bunker, clashing with the squad of jailers. With a low roar from the leading demon, countless monsters surged from all directions, their forms varied. Some were beastly and ferocious, while others were twisted like ghouls. Their shrill cries and roars intertwined, forming a bone-chilling symphony.
The Chief Jailer demon personally oversaw the battle, his brow furrowing at the chaotic scene before him. He let out a loud shout, "Lord!"
A cold gust swept through the battlefield, followed by a chilling, sinister laugh—"Hehehe." A black whirlwind took on a humanoid form, resembling a noble figure from an ancient scroll.
His pale countenance, skin like cold jade untouched by sunlight, reflected a dull red glow under the crimson moonlight. His eyes held an eerie gleam, and his thin lips were tightly closed beneath a high-bridged nose, revealing only his sharp fangs.
This was no unknown, insignificant foe. He was the Vampire Lord, a five-star monster with an attack power of 2000 in Duel Monsters, and once a frequent competitor in the early real-card meta.
"This isn't your territory, is it, bloodsuckers?" The Chief Jailer asked coldly. "What brings you to my bunker?"
"Hmph, does it matter if it's our territory or not?" The Vampire Lord narrowed his eyes and scoffed.
"Everyone knows that your dark god's appetite is growing, and it's only a matter of time before your claws reach our domain. We might as well take the initiative and join forces with our allies in the Demon Tribe to form a united front while we still can."
"Foolish," the Chief Jailer said, taking a step forward as a Duel Disk and a deck of cards materialized on his arm. "You could have continued your carefree ways, but now that you've brought this upon yourselves, don't blame me."
"Interesting," the Lord sneered, a Duel Disk also appearing on his arm. "I've been wanting to test the might of the dark god's minions as well."
"Duel!" they both exclaimed.
The Chief Jailer drew five cards and held them in his hand. "Then let me show you the folly of challenging me, guardian of the Demon Tribe's bunker."
The corner of the Vampire Lord's mouth twitched. "Foolish indeed. All I need to do is hold you off in this duel, and my mission will be accomplished."
"What?" The Chief Jailer frowned, sensing something amiss.
Boom!
Just as the battle outside raged on, a blast rocked the bunker, creating a breach in its walls. A torrent of water gushed through the opening, and a slender figure stepped out, walking slowly against the current.
It was the Dark Bishop, a three-star water attribute demon.
"Heh, this is even easier than I thought," the Dark Bishop whispered with a cold laugh as he strode forward. He held a staff in his right hand, its end adorned with a sinister skull decoration. The water that had burst through the wall did not disperse but instead coiled around him like a watery dragon, as if guarding him.
The prisoners in the cells on either side immediately stirred, some shouting and jeering, while others begged to be released.
However, the Bishop paid them no heed and walked straight to a particular cell.
"Count?"
The figure in the cell slowly raised his head.
Calling him a person wasn't quite accurate; he looked more like an elaborately dressed zombie. His face appeared rotten, with a bulging, eerie eyeball, giving him a sinister appearance.
He was the Deathly Count, a five-star upper-level undead monster. His description read: "A count from the demon world, appearing gentlemanly but inherently evil. Not only humans but even low-level demons fear him."
He was the strongest being imprisoned in this bunker, but he usually refrained from involving himself in the petty struggles of the lower-level monsters.
It was a key, one he had snatched from a jailer upon entering. A gleam flashed in Deathly Count's eyes as he immediately recognized it as the key to his cell.
The cells in the bunker appeared ordinary, but they were actually imbued with a barrier that restricted the power of elemental beings like themselves. Within these walls, they were unable to summon Duel Disks or utilize the power of their cards.
The prisoners were also bound by spells, only permitted to engage in dueling activities in designated areas within the bunker or with the permission of the jailers.
Finally, he would be free.
"We welcome your return, Count." The Demon Bishop chuckled.
"Hmph, I was careless and fell into the trap of those minions of the dark god," the Deathly Count said in a low voice, "But now, I, the Deathly Count, vow that even if I perish in battle, and my soul is absorbed and annihilated, I will never, ever return to this cell!"
"Of course."
The Demon Bishop laughed.
"However, we should leave now. The Vampire Lord is holding off the Chief Jailer, and that old guy is quite tricky. I've arranged an escape route over there, and there will be people waiting for us. If we don't move quickly, we might encounter more troubles."
"Hmph, very well. I intended to settle the score with that old thing, but let him go for now. We can deal with him another day."
As the Demon Bishop was about to unlock the cell, he suddenly paused, sensing something amiss.
He turned and found a person standing before him, seemingly appearing out of thin air.
"Hmm?"
Both the Demon Bishop and the Deathly Count were taken aback.
The person was not wearing the uniform of a jailer.
"Are you also a prisoner?" the Demon Bishop asked, his voice stern. "Get out of the way. I won't take you with us."
"Is that so? What a coincidence, because I don't plan on leaving just yet," You Xuan replied with a smile.
He still hadn't completed the full collection of items in this map, so why rush to open the next one? However, from what he heard from the four-eyed demon earlier, this Deathly Count seemed to be the hidden boss among the prisoners.
In other words, he was one of the most valuable treasures in this map.
You Xuan had zero tolerance for anyone who disturbed his progress toward the full collection achievement. People could leave, but they had to drop their coins first.
"However, it seems you won't be able to leave that easily either."
You Xuan raised his arm, and a pale blue data ripple gathered on it, materializing into the physical form of a Duel Disk.
The demon and the count were astonished.
"You intend to stop us?"
The prisoners in the surrounding cages were equally bewildered. What was going on? Wasn't he a captive like them? Could he be an undercover jailer planted among them?
In fact, apart from his desire to obtain equipment, You Xuan indeed had a bold idea for an interesting course of action.
But first, he needed to defeat these two and collect their coins.
"I don't know what madness has driven you, but we don't have time to waste here with you," the Demon Bishop said as he stepped forward. With a slight wave of his staff, he activated a water-based magic, causing the water to coil around him and eventually transform into a Duel Disk on his arm.
It seemed that the Duel Disks of elemental beings varied in appearance. The Demon Bishop's Duel Disk had a bone-white color and appeared to be crafted from skeletal remains.
"Please wait a moment, Count," the Demon Bishop said, narrowing his eyes. "I'll deal with this ignorant youngster quickly and then we can be on our way."
