Chapter 219: Reveal
Chapter 219: Reveal (Additional Update!)
"Who would have thought this kid would step up too. Looks like we won’t get a chance at the School Team spot."
"I’ve been slacking off. Whoever steps up is fine, as long as we win."
The others fell silent.
Indeed, they had all thought that whoever stepped up first would secure the School Team spot.
But after 49 matches, all the participants were from their Junior Year, and not a single one had won.
There were enough of them to form a whole class...
Next year, they, the Junior Year students, would likely never be able to hold their heads high in front of the younger students.
Now, it didn’t matter who stepped up, as long as they won.
"Xue Chuhua should be fine, right?" a student hesitated, speaking up.
"Of course. Although Xue Chuhua might come off as a bit arrogant, his strength is undeniable. Don’t forget, he was once part of the School Team."
Xue Chuhua, from Junior Year (9) class, had entered Holy Water High School as a Special Recruitment Student. Before the start of his first year, he was selected for the School Team and successfully earned everyone’s recognition during the opening ceremony’s demonstration.
However, after participating in one National Campus Beastmaster League, he chose to leave the School Team.
His reason was that he saw no possibility of winning the Provincial First Place from Litan, and since he couldn’t get the qualification to test for top universities, he might as well focus on his studies and aim to enter a top university through the College Entrance Exam.
This act of boosting others while undermining himself was almost universally condemned by the entire school.
However, some people understood his decision, as cutting losses is a smart move.
High school only lasts three years, and every day is precious. If the goal is a top university, and one can’t secure the first place in the provincial competition, it’s better to find another path.
He did find another path, but it was a narrow one.
Xue Chuhua had no clue about his academic performance.
To enter a top university, one needed to be in the top 15 of the school. However, his exam results consistently placed him around 400th.
With such results, barring any unexpected events, he was almost certainly going to miss out on a top university.
Now, stepping up, he was likely regretting his decision to leave the School Team.
...
The others weren’t wrong; Xue Chuhua was regretting it to the core.
But he had once been a prominent figure, and with so many eyes on him, he couldn’t show his regret in front of everyone!
Heaven only knew how he had endured until now to step up.
Xue Chuhua feigned nonchalance, taking his hand out of his pocket and speaking in a calm tone, yet his words were extremely arrogant:
"I didn’t want to step up, but your Treasure Seeker’s performance has piqued my interest. Unfortunately, your winning streak ends here."
The moment he spoke, the hall erupted in cheers, all from the Junior Year students.
"Xue Chuhua! Xue Chuhua!"
"Xue Chuhua! Xue Chuhua!"
The Freshmen of the first year were not to be outdone.
"Qiao Sang! Qiao Sang!"
"Qiao Sang! Qiao Sang!"
Xue Chuhua raised his hand to signal for quiet, and the crowd obliged.
"Damn, this guy is so arrogant, it’s annoying", a student in the Junior Year section grumbled.
"Who cares, as long as he wins."
"That’s true."
Although the opponent seemed a bit overconfident, Qiao Sang didn’t take him lightly.
After all, it takes a certain level of confidence to make such bold statements after witnessing a winning streak.
The match began, and Xue Chuhua formed a hand seal.
The next moment, the Gray Star Array lit up on the ground, causing a slight tremor. A gust of wind radiated outward from the familiar that appeared within the Star Array.
Seeing the familiar, Qiao Sang’s lips twitched.
The familiar was tall, nearly three meters in height, with a mostly reddish-brown body and a white belly. Its torso was primarily composed of a fat-laden abdomen, and its round, confused eyes and dazed expression made it look rather silly.
Well, I'll be darned, it's actually a Gulp Bear.
A Gulp Bear is typically an Intermediate Beast. As its name suggests, it's both clumsy and a big eater, usually acting silly and becoming even more so after a full meal.
Once it's had its fill, it will usually lie down and not even bother moving a single paw. At this point, even if someone were to dance on its belly, it wouldn't care.
Due to its massive size, it has formidable destructive power. Additionally, its body is mostly fat, giving it excellent defensive capabilities. It has a significant reputation among Intermediate Beasts.
However, even with its exceptional combat strength, most people wouldn't consider bonding with it.
The main reason is that it's simply too expensive to keep...
Experts have repeatedly mentioned that unless you have a fortune, it's not recommended for Beastmasters to bond with a Gulp Bear.
The Gulp Bear is known as a glutton, consuming nearly a hundred pounds of food daily.
Even at the Intermediate stage, it's already terrifying. Once it evolves into a High-Class Beast Companion, its appetite becomes even more alarming, capable of bankrupting an average family in no time.
Rich folks, huh...
Qiao Sang gained a new perspective on the middle-school senior in front of him.
The Treasure Seeker had already fought in several matches and was quite tired. Although its energy and stamina had been replenished, its enthusiasm for battle was waning.
The whistle blew, and its eyes quickly turned blue, attempting to use Psychic Power to control the opponent for a quick victory.
However, the Gulp Bear remained completely still.
"Xun!"
The Treasure Seeker was shocked; this was the first time it had encountered such a situation.
As it stood there at a loss, Qiao Sang spoke up, "Control its foot."
The Gulp Bear's massive size meant that even though the Treasure Seeker had mastered Psychic Power, its internal energy was still limited as a Beginner Beast.
It would be too difficult to control the entire Gulp Bear, so it was better to focus on a specific part.
"Xunxun!"
The Treasure Seeker quickly focused its attention on the Gulp Bear's left foot.
"Prodigal son, Shadow Ball", Xue Chuhua said calmly.
"Shi shi."
Although the Gulp Bear looked a bit dim-witted, its movements were quick. With a wide-open mouth, it released a Shadow Ball, a large, black projectile filled with enormous energy, about the size of the Treasure Seeker.
Due to the significant size difference, the Treasure Seeker's Psychic Power couldn't immediately control the Gulp Bear's foot. Instead, the Gulp Bear's Shadow Ball was the first to approach.
The Treasure Seeker had no choice but to abandon its control and use teleportation to dodge.
"Bang!!"
The Shadow Ball exploded mid-air, creating a loud noise.
Amid the explosion's sound, the Treasure Seeker vanished.
Seeing the situation, the crowd began to discuss.
"It's invisible again, what are we supposed to do?"
"The Gulp Bear is so big and moves so slowly. Isn't it just a sitting duck for the Treasure Seeker, which can appear and disappear at will?"
"Yeah, but what can you do? The Gulp Bear's defense is notoriously high. Attacks probably don't even hurt it."
"That's true."
Invisibility, huh... Xue Chuhua's lips curved into a smile as he called out, "Reveal!"
"Shi shi."
The Gulp Bear's round eyes turned a strange red.
Qiao Sang's expression turned serious.
Reveal can place the target in a revealed state, allowing it to see Ghost-type Beast Companions that are invisible. It's a Scouting Skill that is the bane of Ghost-types.
