Chapter 219: Can't Afford to Relax
Chapter 219: Can’t Afford to Relax (Requesting Monthly Vote)
Time flew. By September 11th, summer had reached its sweltering peak, with the Imperial Capital routinely hitting temperatures above 35°C.
Across the nation, high schools had been in session for ten days.
In Tianhai City, elite classes for senior-year students at various schools had been reassembled.
At Azure Firmament Six Colleges, inside a traditional-style standalone villa labeled Unit 01, Lin Qi and Jiang Tao sat on black leather sofas in the spacious living room. Opposite them, a hundred-inch green screen flickered to life with a projection.
The screen displayed a young woman wearing a form-fitting white martial arts uniform. Her delicate features radiated liveliness, her petite frame exuding vibrant energy.
"Brother, Lin Qi! I’ve got great news!" Jiang Miaoyin couldn’t contain her excitement, her voice bubbling with joy. "I’ve officially joined the senior elite class at Tianhai No.2 High School—and I’m the top student in the entire grade!"
Jiang Tao practically leapt off the sofa, punching the air. "Told you you’d make it, A Miao!"
Lin Qi clapped too, smiling warmly. "You’re getting stronger by the day. Your starting point already surpasses mine and Taozi’s combined."
Jiang Miaoyin’s cheeks flushed pink as she smirked. "Of course! Jiang Miaoyin’s innate talent isn’t just talk."
"A Miao, keep pushing! Aim for top three in Tianhai City—at least!" Jiang Tao’s eyes burned with fervor. "No, top three in Cang Province!"
"Easy! My goal is to surpass Lin Qi!" she declared proudly.
Watching their shared elation, Lin Qi’s smile deepened. Compared to last year, Miaoyin had transformed completely—from a frail, fragile girl who seemed ready to collapse in a breeze into someone now brimming with vitality.
Thanks to Jiang Tao’s relentless investment, she’d gained access to elite resources and training environments. Her vital energy stat had skyrocketed, and after last semester’s second-place finish, she’d vaulted to the top spot this summer. She’d become Jiang Tao’s living mirror, her potential limitless.
Minutes later, the call ended. The two moved to the balcony on the villa’s third floor, letting the evening breeze cool their thoughts.
"Hey Taozi", Lin Qi suddenly asked, gazing at the moonlit sky. "Does A Miao have a Mysterious Waterdrop Gemstone too?"
Jiang Tao grinned. "Naturally. My parents prepared one for both of us, set to activate at 18."
"But I broke the seal early. No point waiting—better innate talent means better resources. Why delay?"
He’d experienced firsthand how the gemstone had transformed his body, smoothing his martial cultivation path.
"Good. I’m glad", Lin Qi said, genuinely happy for his childhood friends. "You know I want both of you to be as strong as possible."
Jiang Tao sighed, studying Lin Qi. "This time last year, you started your rise. Who could’ve predicted you’d soar from around a hundredth place to top Tianhai, then Cang Province, finally breaking into the national top ten?"
"Principal, Teacher Zhang, Master Yue, Director He from the Martial Bureau—if they heard you defeated the national number two, they’d probably lose their voices from shock!"
Lin Qi chuckled. "Maybe they’ve gone numb from all the surprises."
Internally, he marveled at how much had changed in a year. Less than twelve months since awakening his fusion template, and already rewriting history. Where would he stand a year from now? Would he dominate all Blue Planet martial artists his age?
---
The next morning, electric cars of various colors hummed smoothly along wide roads toward the main building.
Boom!
A thunderous roar shook the air as sleek black-and-red Great Sparrow Transport aircraft streaked overhead, swallowing the skyline.
"What’s going on?" Jiang Tao leaned out the window, watching the steel beasts vanish into the distance.
Lin Qi frowned. "Something big today?"
"I know", Wang Qiufeng called from nearby. "It’s senior fieldwork day. Fourth-year students are heading out for internships."
"Seniors have more freedom", Wang continued. "Some stay to train, but most start internships. A few become instructors or take administrative roles, others join martial pavilions."
Lin Qi nodded. He knew some students avoided combat—like the investigation team members Zou Wan and Wen Rui, both Azure Firmament graduates. Even Lu Wei had taken that path. But most chose battlefield internships.
"Xia Kingdom Martial Artists University students all go to war for fieldwork", Wang said. "Blood and fire forge us."
Li Zhou added grimly, "Global situations worsen. Disaster beast invasions intensify, especially high-tier ones. This year’s numbers dwarf the last decade. Bei Jiang Province’s especially dire—multiple nine-tier beasts reported."
Guan Shan’s voice turned solemn. "Many seniors will fall. I’m from Bei Jiang. We’re known for martial spirit, honed through decades of beast wars."
The group fell silent, the weight of reality pressing heavy.
"Don’t dwell", Lin Qi broke in. "We focus on training. The stronger we become, the more high-tier beasts we’ll slay."
Their fists tightened as vehicles sped toward the classroom. In this martial era, with foreign beasts threatening, there was no room to relax.
---
At Azure Firmament Six Colleges’ top-floor vice dean office, Dean Liu watched departing aircraft through the window.
"The situation deteriorates. Even with high-tier martial artists guarding them, battlefield internships mean losses", he murmured. "How many students will we lose this time?"
Mu Hong, standing nearby in a black qipao, replied calmly. "War demands sacrifices. Only through battlefield cruelty does one’s spirit transform—laying the foundation for true strength. The future will grow darker. May more geniuses rise to meet it."
