Chapter 218: Where's My Fire Dragon?
Chapter 218: Where's My Fire Dragon?
In reality, Hermione didn't know Kyle well enough.
It wasn't just an insignificant end-of-term exam; even if the O.W.Ls were happening tomorrow, there was no way he'd miss Quidditch.
The reason he didn't show up for the match this time was entirely because he received something special.
Five minutes ago, an owl suddenly burst into the changing room and dropped a chipped teacup in front of Kyle.
"Kyle, someone sent you trash!" said Keeper Ferrol, looking at the teacup with a grim expression. "We're about to start the match. Who did this? It's probably those Slytherins again..."
Kyle didn't say a word; he just stared at the teacup in a daze.
He recognized it at a glance; it was Hagrid's, and he remembered advising Hagrid to throw it away, so it left a deep impression.
"Sorry, Captain, I have something to do, and I might not be able to make it to the upcoming match."
Without hesitation, Kyle rushed out of the changing room, still in his team uniform and riding his broomstick.
The others stood there, looking dumbfounded. When they finally came to their senses, Kyle was already long gone.
"Well... This is the first time I've seen Kyle so serious," Ferrol said, smacking his lips. "You think he knows who sent it and went to settle the score?"
"Probably not..." Cedric shook his head.
Kyle's expression was more of concern than anger.
"But what about the match?" asked Beater Wil. "We're about to take the field."
"Don't worry, there's still time to find a substitute. I'll go get Madam Hooch," said Harris, leaving the changing room without looking back.
Meanwhile, Kyle, who had left the changing room, rode his broomstick swiftly across the pitch and arrived at Hagrid's hut.
As soon as he got off his broomstick, Kyle heard heavy, rapid breathing.
Inside the hut, Hagrid was desperately holding Norbert, trying to cover its mouth and wings.
But Norbert had grown almost as big as the three-headed dog, and his strength was astonishing. Even Hagrid struggled to control him.
His arms were bruised and his entire face was red from the effort.
Kyle quickly stepped forward, coaxing and deceiving Norbert with all the fish crackers he had, finally calming the agitated Norbert.
"Whew... Thank goodness you came..." Hagrid sat on the ground, panting heavily.
"What kind of game are you two playing?" Kyle frowned. "If I had arrived a little later, you would have destroyed this house."
"It's all my fault..." Hagrid lowered his head and whispered, "Norbert has been getting more and more irritable lately. Today, he insisted on going out, and when I tried to stop him, he got angry."
A few minutes later, Kyle also understood the situation.
In short, Norbert had become less obedient than when he first hatched. He was becoming more active, and as his size rapidly increased, Hagrid's hut seemed more and more like a "cage" to him.
He desperately wanted to leave and go to a wider place, and today he finally snapped. Hagrid, of course, couldn't let him go, so he tried his best to stop him.
Kyle could understand; anyone locked in a space as big as themselves would feel uncomfortable, let alone Norbert, a fire dragon with a temper. It was already a big favor to Hagrid that Norbert had endured until now.
"You should have written to me sooner!" Kyle said, rubbing his forehead.
Kyle had been busy preparing a new batch of luck charms and with the Quidditch match, he hadn't visited Hagrid much recently.
And now, Hagrid had prepared a huge surprise.
As expected, he shouldn't have trusted Hagrid's promise to write him a letter when Norbert grew as big as Fang. Now, Norbert was almost bigger than Hagrid's dog!
Hagrid realized the seriousness of the situation and reluctantly said, "You can take him away tomorrow."
"Not tomorrow, but now," Kyle said. "He might act up again at any moment, and it'll be more troublesome then."
"Now?" Hagrid frowned. "But how will you get him out? The Quidditch pitch is right across, and if Norbert leaves the house, there will definitely be a lot of people seeing him..." He paused, then added, "Oh, we can put him in a box. Wait here for a moment!"
Hagrid got up and rushed out of the house.
After he left, Kyle approached Norbert, took out a box from the chameleon lizard's bag, opened it, and placed it on the ground.
"Go ahead... It's a bit crude, but it's definitely better than here."
Norbert flapped his wings, a bit confused, but out of trust for Kyle, he stuck his head into the box.
brother, added, "Teeth, you're not going to fit in there, are you?"
Hagrid suddenly noticed that Norbert, who had been in the corner, was nowhere to be seen.
"He... he didn't fly away, did he...?"
Hagrid's face turned pale, and the wooden box slipped from his hands, falling to the ground.
His worst fear had come true—Norbert had run away...
There weren't just wizards watching the match on the pitch; there were also professors. If they saw a fire dragon suddenly appearing near the Forbidden Forest...
"Hagrid, Norbert didn't run away," Kyle said calmly, closing the box and putting it back into the chameleon lizard's bag. "Weren't you just outside the house? Did you see him leave?"
Hagrid shook his head unconsciously, his heart, which had been hanging in suspense, now feeling a bit lighter.
Indeed, he hadn't seen Norbert leave the house.
"Don't worry, I've taken care of him," Kyle said.
"Really?" Hagrid's eyes widened in surprise. "But... how did you do it?"
It was a fire dragon, one that moved and had a temper, and it had just disappeared?
"Just a little trick," Kyle smiled. "Alright, the crisis is over. I need to hurry back to watch the match. Do you want to come with me?"
