Chapter 218: Pirates are Fair Game Too
Chapter 218: Pirates are Fair Game Too
Drake, already astonished by the unfolding events and his inability to stop the fight, was left even more surprised.
The reason he wanted to prevent the battle was simple: Marika knew the Six Powers. Whether it was Moonwalk or Finger Gun, her skills were polished, and she also possessed Haki.
Drake could detect Haki because he, too, was adept at using it, and anyone proficient in both Haki and the Six Powers in the first half was highly suspect.
Drake's first thought wasn't of a pirate but someone from the same camp, perhaps not a Marine, but a spy. After all, wasn't Norton locked up?
Marika, like himself, might be a solo operator, leading a pirate crew for other missions.
Although he didn't know the specifics, Drake was naturally inclined to end the conflict, given this possibility.
Fighting here was not something he wanted.
However, the person who appeared next left him utterly flabbergasted.
'Bomb' Renee and 'Magician' Hawkins!
Renee's bounty of 100 million berries could be overlooked as it was lower than Marika's, but Hawkins, with a bounty of 249 million berries, meant they definitely weren't operating under Marika's command.
No pirate crew would have subordinates with higher bounties than their captain. Bounties in pirate crews were always calculated with the captain's bounty taking precedence.
Was the Disaster Pirate Crew now under Hawkins' command?
But just as this idea occurred to him, the situation changed once more.
That chilling glint was the blade of a scythe in Kira's hand, revealing a thin sword about two fingers wide. The sword's tip was mere inches from Kira's throat, ready to pierce with the slightest forward push.
And the owner of that thin sword was none other than a woman with slightly bent knees, poised to deliver a sword-drawing strike. Her eyes were cold, her face solemn, and her battle skirt accentuated her fine figure. Her golden hair, like the sun itself, shone brilliantly in the sunlight.
Benita Lily!
Drake wouldn't have been so shocked by this woman's appearance if it weren't for the man who had just appeared in front of where Ulqi had been standing—a man who commanded everyone's attention.
A man with a black cloak lined with red, and a head of white hair!
"Hey! What's he doing here?"
Not just Drake, but even Law showed a shocked expression, incredulously staring at the man.
Everyone present, including the top rookies and the kicked-over Ulqi, wore looks of extreme surprise.
"Norton Sage, Disaster."
Ulqi climbed to his feet, maintaining his creepy smile but changing his tone. "Why? Shouldn't you be locked up?"
Capone Bege, cigar in mouth, remained silent, his eyes fixed on the scene before him.
There was no doubt—it was Disaster.
A man whose bounty far surpassed theirs, crushing them with his sheer presence!
For the other top rookies, Bege wouldn't bat an eye at a bounty of three hundred million berries. The intelligence suggested that these people were more of a threat to the World Government and didn't represent true strength.
They were all pirates, so there was nothing to fear.
However, there was a limit to bounties. Three hundred million was nothing to scoff at, but six hundred million—that was an entirely different matter.
Especially when just a few days ago, the newspapers had announced that this very man had been captured and sent to Impel Down!
And that wasn't even a World Government newspaper. In fact, the World Government didn't have a newspaper; it was mostly the various press corps, with the World Economic News being the most prominent.
They valued truth above all, and even with exaggerations, they wouldn't stray too far from the facts. What happened was what was reported, without any falsities.
"What's going on?" Bege mumbled, taken aback by the turn of events.
"He looks vaguely familiar," he added, squinting at the group.
"And he's annoying," Sage scoffed, having only a vague recollection of these people, whom he deemed unimportant and had mostly forgotten.
As a pirate himself, Sage had little interest in them; he was more concerned with finding something worthwhile to plunder.
Just as they had finished dealing with the bounty hunters, they had been wandering around looking for other places worth robbing when they heard the sounds of combat. And now, there was Marika, injured.
That hand—it was the hand she cooked with!
"Norton Sage!"
Kid drew the blade from his waist and snarled, "I don't care how you showed up, but that bounty on your head really pisses me off!"
Clang!
As Kid finished speaking, Kira flicked his scythe, parrying Lily's thin sword, and tumbled backward, using the momentum to spring off the ground, his legs coiling as if to leap into the air.
But Lily anticipated this move, and just as Kira was about to take off, a hand grabbed him by the head.
Sage had appeared behind him in an instant, and now the giant was like a doll in Sage's grip, easily swung and tossed aside, landing right in front of the red-haired man.
"Who are you?" Sage asked at last.
"Eustass Kid," came the reply.
"He's the one with the second-highest bounty, Norton, a whopping three hundred and fifteen million berries," Lily clarified, sheathing her sword. "And everyone else here is a pirate, too. They all have bounties over a hundred million, and they're known as 'Supernovas,' just like us."
"So, he's in the same league as me," Sage sneered, not even bothering to glance at Kid. Instead, he turned to Ulqi and asked, "So, what are you going to do about this?"
Still wearing that creepy smile, Ulqi stretched his massive frame and replied, "A bounty of six hundred million—that's a tempting challenge."
"Wrong answer."
Bang!
In an instant, Sage was in front of the giant, his fist burying itself in Ulqi's abdomen, causing his body to arch, and then a whip-like leg lashed out, connecting with Ulqi's head and sending him careening into the ground, creating a dent.
"The right answer is to kneel before me, beg for forgiveness, and then pay a price that satisfies me," Sage said, a cruel smile playing at his lips. He paused, as if remembering something, his figure flickering, and then he vanished.
Bang!
Bege's eyes went wide as he was suddenly struck from behind, the cigar falling from his mouth as he was sent flying, landing next to Ulqi.
"Hey!"
In the next moment, Bonnie cried out, her body flipping through the air as if she had been grabbed by the ankle and thrown, landing on the other side.
This caused Drake and Law's pupils to constrict, cold sweat breaking out on their bodies.
"Well then," Sage said, reappearing where he had been a moment ago, facing the group of pirates. A cruel smile twisted his lips as he continued, "It's all the same to me—robbing one or robbing two, robbing a Shampoo Queen or robbing pirates. Pay up, and I'll let you buy your lives!"
