Chapter 218: Jailbreak?
Chapter 218: Jailbreak?
". . ."
"I activate the Continuous Trap Card 'Royal Decree', negating the effects of all Trap Cards currently on the field." Yu Xuan stated calmly.
"Then, I equip my monster, 'Massacre Giant', with the Equip Spell Card 'Blazing Piercer', boosting its Attack by 400 points. However, I'll discard 'Hydros, Snake of the Sea' from my hand to activate the effect of 'Abyss Soldier'. Once per turn, I can discard a card to return a card on the field to its owner's hand. I choose to return 'Blazing Piercer' to my hand, and as its effect, I exclude 'Massacre Giant' from playing when it leaves the field." Yu Xuan explained, leaving the surrounding Sprites in the square stunned and astonished.
"Whoa, you can do that?"
"Now, I re-equip 'Blazing Piercer' to my 'Abyss Soldier'." Yu Xuan smiled.
"Double attack with my two 'Abyss Soldiers'."
". . ."
In just a few minutes, another Demon lost its dream and its Deck. However, this time, the Demon wasn't too saddened by the loss of its Deck, for it had lost something far more precious—its life.
During his duel with the Four-Eyed Demon, Yu Xuan had not yet fully understood the rules and settings of this world. As his opponent clearly didn't intend to kill him, Yu Xuan had held back and decided to interrogate him after reducing his Life Points to zero.
Now that he had a better grasp of this world's dynamics, Yu Xuan realized that the situation in this dimension involved a blame game between the scoundrel snakes and the indigenous Magic Tribe, neither of whom seemed to be up to any good. With that knowledge, he had no qualms about slaying his opponents and taking their Decks.
However, the sight of a fellow inmate being reduced to mere specks of light before their eyes terrified the watching prisoners. They couldn't believe someone dared to commit murder openly within the dungeon! Did he not fear the warden?
The Four-Eyed Demon, in particular, was trembling from head to toe. He now fully realized how close he had come to death during his duel with Yu Xuan. It was sheer luck that he had only lost his Deck instead of his life when dueling with such a devilish opponent.
"Now, hand over your Deck," Yu Xuan said calmly as he collected the cards, glancing around curiously. "Where's the warden? This dungeon's security needs improvement."
Sigh, never mind if he doesn't show up. I'll just continue with my plan for now.
"You mentioned there were two more Sprites with dueling capabilities, right?" Yu Xuan asked, turning to the Four-Eyed Demon and beckoning him forward. "Lead the way."
The Four-Eyed Demon's body shook with fear, but he dared not disobey. With a nod, he walked forward, his head down and lips pressed tightly together.
"Brothers, please don't blame me. I really had no choice," he muttered.
At that moment, a loud explosion reverberated through the air, its source unknown. The entire dungeon seemed to shake with the force of the blast.
Then, a cold voice rang out from above. "Attention all inmates! Your recreation time has ended. Return to your cells immediately, or forceful measures will be taken. I repeat, return to your cells immediately, or forceful measures will be taken."
The imprisoned Sprites scattered in a panic, pushing and shoving each other as they rushed back to their respective cells. It seemed they feared the dungeon's guards.
The Four-Eyed Demon hurried to Yu Xuan's side and whispered, "Big brother, let's go back to our cell for now. We can always duel another time. Otherwise..." He trailed off, his eyes widening as he realized what he had been about to say.
"Huh?"
The Four-Eyed Demon was taken aback.
"That's indeed possible. There have been attempts by strong adventurers to raid the dungeon in the past, but most of them failed. It's been a long time since the last attempt."
Yu Xuan understood and continued, "So, if someone dares to attempt a prison break now, they must be pretty strong, huh?"
"Indeed. If they weren't confident in their strength, they wouldn't come to this fortress to meet their death. Big brother, what are you planning to do?"
The Four-Eyed Demon wore a terrified expression.
Are you serious with that expectant look on your face? Yu Xuan was indeed a little curious.
As a strong being from the Sprite world, their Deck should be pretty good, right?
A few minutes earlier, in the depths of the fortress, a conference room.
The heavy iron door blocked out all the noise, and the dim firelight barely illuminated every corner of the conference table, casting eerie shadows on the walls and ceiling.
The dungeon's warden sat at one end of the long table, his face solemn. The crimson moonlight shone through the narrow window, casting a blood-red glow on his face.
"I'll be frank."
The warden placed his hands on the table, propped his chin, and lowered his voice.
"You should all be aware that the great God of Oligarh has sent a special envoy to our world."
His gaze swept across the high-ranking officers in the room as he spoke.
"The identity of the envoy is unknown, or perhaps the higher-ups deliberately hid this information from us.
We have no way of knowing the race, gender, or form of the envoy. But for the next period of time, I want everyone to act on the premise that 'anyone could be that envoy.'
We must be extremely cautious in our words and actions."
"Understood." The high-ranking officers nodded in agreement.
The envoy's secret visit was a process that the fortress, or any outpost established after pledging allegiance to the God, could not avoid. Every once in a while, there would be a review, sometimes openly and sometimes secretly, like this one.
After all, they knew that many indigenous beings from other dimensions did not truly worship the God of Oligarh but merely submitted out of fear and coercion.
Some might even be pretending, just putting on a show to survive. If the control of the God's teachings over an area weakened, it was possible for certain organizations to defect immediately.
"I've heard that some races are also skilled in transformation and disguise, or they could achieve the same through magical means."
One of the high-ranking officers looked around the room at his colleagues and said, "Perhaps the envoy is already here, even in this very room."
The officers began to glance at each other, scrutinizing their peers, wondering if any of them could be the disguised envoy.
"It could also be one of the prison guards," someone suggested.
"Be bold and think outside the box. It's not impossible that they could be among the newly arrived prisoners," added another.
Many remained silent, but their faces showed skepticism.
Could there really be an envoy pretending to be a prisoner?
"In any case, we must not rule out any possibility," the warden concluded. "We need to be extra cautious from now on."
Boom!
Just then, the fortress shook as if struck by a powerful force from outside.
The warden's face darkened. "What's going on?"
Soon, a demon rushed into the room, his footsteps echoing in the corridor.
"Prison break! Someone's breaking into the prison!"
