Chapter 218: Freedom Beneath
Chapter 218: Freedom Beneath
Can this guy read minds too?
Can such powerful hearing eventually evolve into the ability to listen to one's inner thoughts?
Most people, upon learning that the being before them could peer into their hearts and minds, would likely not react well.
Lindsey was no exception to this.
However, among all the secrets that could be revealed, there was only one that truly concerned him—the Dragon Beast.
It was common knowledge that almost all the beasts in the Black Mountain World were under the Dragon Beast's control.
If this Sixth Stage Blind One before him learned that Lindsey's true purpose was to kill the Dragon Beast...
Then his current actions could be seen as walking straight into a trap!
Even with the Blind One's Sixth Stage power.
Lindsey couldn't even attempt to escape, he could only close his eyes and await his demise!
Realizing the predicament he was in, Lindsey quickly tried to control his thoughts, attempting the simplest form of meditation to clear his mind.
However, keeping his mind blank while communicating was not a feasible option.
Moreover, the reality of the situation was far worse than Lindsey had imagined.
The fleeting thought that had just crossed his mind was already captured by the Blind One before him.
"Lindsey, I can only hear the surface activity of your thoughts. Dragon Beast... Dragon Beast? You have such an incredible goal?"
"Friend, the weak often have a chance to defeat the strong, but this is not a reason for people to seek their own demise."
"Your understanding of the situation is not entirely accurate."
"The Dragon Beast does control most of the beings in the world above, but it has not laid a hand on the arid underground world."
The Dragon Beast hasn't taken control of the underground world?
Lindsey tried to control his thoughts, but upon hearing this, he couldn't help but feel a bit surprised:
"Why did it give up control of the underground?"
"If it's attempting to advance by plundering the world's essence, it should acquire all the help it can. This doesn't make sense!"
The Blind One Elder responded:
"I've thought about this too."
"I believe it might be related to its leap in power several decades ago."
The Dragon Beast, originating from the Thousand Mountain Stone Forest;
There might be something that could make one stronger;
A beast's sudden power surge several decades ago.
These messages, when pieced together, naturally led to a corresponding speculation.
Without needing Lindsey to speak, the Blind One Elder, who could listen to others' surface thoughts, affirmed this:
"Lindsey, you've guessed correctly."
"That Dragon Beast was only a Fourth Stage Lizardman several decades ago, a lone wanderer outside his clan. But in the nearby Crystal Valley, he encountered something that caused his power to surge to the Fifth Stage. He continued to grow stronger until he left here, went to the Black Mountain World, and ruled over the entire world!"
Lindsey recalled the information the Mole Clan had given him.
The war between the Blind Ones and the Lizardmen that had once taken place here.
The Blind One Elder quickly responded:
"This was originally our territory, and as fellow clan members of the Dragon Beast, they also knew about this sudden change. Our two clans only had minor frictions, but the secret to enhancing power triggered that great war."
This explanation differed from the information provided by the Mole Clan.
However, it was more convincing.
As the Blind One Elder spoke, his tone became more serious.
"Lindsey, since your goal is to kill the Dragon Beast, I believe we should cooperate."
"You might find the secret to its power in the Crystal Valley."
Cooperation is even more necessary...
Lindsey felt that the Blind One Elder was hinting at something.
This was like funding an enemy to challenge the Dragon Beast!
Even if the Dragon Beast hadn't extracted the essence of these underground beings. There was no reason for them to help Lindsey rebel against the Dragon Beast.
This would only invite disaster.
"The reason is this," Lindsey thought, and as he did, the Blind One Elder stood up, "With just one breath, it sucked out a large amount of water from my body, leaving me unable to move.
"The Elder of the Blind Ones was revealing its body."
"The wrinkles on its skin were not signs of aging but permanent marks left by an attack, a testament to a battle it had endured."
"The Dragon Beast possessed the ability to manipulate hot and cold airflows."
"This ability was already dangerous at the fifth stage, and by the time it advanced to the seventh stage, it could even interfere with the bodies of other Beastfolk, deciding life and death in an instant."
"The Elder of the Blind Ones survived only due to its formidable strength, preventing immediate death."
"However, the significant decline in its physical functions was akin to being imprisoned here."
At this point, the Elder spoke with deep resentment, "The leader of the Lizardmen is no match for me!"
"But because of that 'gentle' lesson, I'm forced to stay here and engage in a long-drawn-out standoff with it."
By now, Lind had mostly regained control of his thoughts. He focused his mind on the Dragon Beast and the Blind One before him, avoiding thoughts of his secret to prevent any information leaks.
Eager to understand, Lind asked, "Why didn't the Dragon Beast kill you outright?"
The Elder of the Blind Ones revealed, "When it attacked, I could see its surface thoughts."
"It wanted to maintain some balance in the underground world, and that's why it didn't swallow me whole!"
Lind pointed upwards, towards the top of the cave, "What about the Lizardmen?"
The Elder's tone turned extremely disdainful, "Those greedy creatures fear the Dragon Beast's power, yet they yearn for it. They're even jealous of their own kind, but as underground beings, they can't have their Essence extracted by the Dragon Beast."
"In the end, they're stuck here, facing off against me while trying to uncover the underground's secrets. Meanwhile, some have left to pledge loyalty to the Dragon Beast!"
The Black Scaled Lizardmen guarding the Glacier Element in the swamp seemed to be the latter.
Hearing this, Lind suddenly understood his previous encounter.
Just then, the Elder's tone turned agonizing, and its body, which had just stood up, sank back down in helplessness, "Lind, my human friend, I beg of you."
"This place has become a hopeless cage for my clan. That damned Dragon Beast has ruined everything. Even without having our Essence extracted, we're left with nothing but futile struggles..."
Suddenly, a strange sound echoed from outside the cave.
In the lightless underground, a fierce storm raged, its howling winds reverberating eerily within the enclosed space, making the entire cave feel like the end of the world.
Simultaneously, the temperature began to rise rapidly.
Salt Creek even showed signs of melting.
The nearby Blind Ones emitted sharp roars, and an atmosphere of terror and despair enveloped the entire mountain.
Was this an attack by the Dragon Beast?
Lind's mind instantly assessed the situation, but the Elder beside him shook its head in denial, "No, it's that Tier Six Lizardman up there!"
The Elder continued, its voice filled with both sorrow and a sense of liberation after enduring a long age, "That lizard knows you might be the variable to change everything."
"Greed has overcome its restraint!"
"Human, I know your kind is clever. Whether you seize this opportunity or not is up to you."
As the Elder spoke, a powerful Essence burst from its body.
A massive fissure split open in Salt Creek, and the Elder dove into it, causing the entire mountain to tremble violently.
A battle to the death between two Tier Six powerhouses was about to unfold right before Lind's eyes!
