Chapter 217: Flying Magic Car (First Update)
Chapter 217: Flying Magic Car (First Update)
"Oh, Jerry, is there anything you don't know how to do?"
Hermione watched as Jerry waved his wand, and one by one, dishes of Chinese cuisine she had never seen before appeared. She couldn't help but marvel inwardly.
Jerry was the top student in his year, and even the teachers praised his understanding of magic, saying that in some areas, he had already surpassed most seventh-year witches.
In Quidditch, Jerry was the best Seeker, even being exceptionally recruited by the English National Team. He had also turned the tide in the Quidditch World Cup, securing the championship for the English team.
Jerry had also delved deeply into Muggle science and knowledge, knowing even more than her father, who had been a Muggle for decades.
Even in subjects not taught at school, like Alchemy, Jerry could converse knowledgeably with Mr. Weasley, showing a high level of expertise.
And now, even in the seemingly mundane kitchen magic, Jerry could cook, and not just any dishes, but the notoriously difficult Chinese cuisine.
Could one person really be this versatile?
Originally, in Hermione's mind, Jerry was not only her best friend but also her goal to surpass, her rival. But now, she felt that surpassing Jerry was an almost impossible dream.
Unlike Hermione, Mrs. Granger looked at Jerry with great satisfaction.
"Merlin, you really mastered Chinese cuisine, and it's so delicious!"
Mrs. Weasley picked up a fork, speared a piece of chicken, and put it in her mouth. Her eyes lit up with surprise.
She had thought Jerry might have just dabbled in some Chinese recipes, able to make them passably. But she hadn't expected them to be this good, far exceeding her expectations.
"Actually, I'm also interested in British and French cuisine. Aunt Molly, if you have time, we can exchange some recipes. You can teach me British and French dishes, and I can teach you Chinese cuisine!"
Jerry replied humbly.
"That would be wonderful!"
Mrs. Weasley's fondness for Jerry soared as she looked at him, a kindred spirit.
Jerry wasn't a naturally sociable person and didn't particularly enjoy socializing, but he understood that if he wanted to be friends with someone or make them like him, the simplest way was to share a common interest. And if he could show some achievement in that interest, it made things even easier.
Lunchtime arrived.
As everyone took their seats, the Weasleys, who were familiar with Mrs. Weasley's cooking, immediately noticed something different about the food on the table.
"Oh, Molly, you've made so many dishes I've never seen before. This sweet and sour, crispy texture, is it meat?"
Arthur picked up a piece of sweet and sour pork, coated in a sweet and tangy sauce, and put it in his mouth. His eyes lit up with enjoyment.
"This chicken tastes different from usual!"
"Hey, is this fish? It's so spicy!"
"What's this? Oh, it's hot! Merlin's underpants, it's dripping!"
As everyone curiously picked up their forks and knives, exclamations of surprise echoed around the table.
"I'm not an expert in Chinese cuisine. Half of the dishes on the table today, which come from far-off China, were prepared by Mr. Carmen. You should thank him!"
Molly smiled and explained to everyone.
"Jerry!"
Upon hearing that these unusual Chinese dishes were made by Jerry, everyone who hadn't been in the kitchen earlier looked at him with disbelief.
Especially Harry and Ron, they knew Jerry quite well. In their eyes, Jerry should be the type who is completely engrossed in magic books every day, unable to tear himself away.
It's like when you were in school, and you saw the top student in the entire school diligently studying every day. You would marvel at how hard work really does pay off; he works so hard every day, so it's only fitting that he tops the class.
Later, you discover that he's also exceptionally good at sports. You marvel at how it's possible to excel in both academics and athletics.
Then, one day, this classmate comes to your house as a guest and effortlessly prepares a full banquet of Chinese delicacies.
At this point, all you're left with is a sense of despair.
Why, when everyone is human and roughly the same age, can you be so outstanding that it borders on despair!
Being good at studies is due to hard work, and being good at sports is because of a naturally athletic body, but what on earth makes someone so good at cooking?
"Soup Dumplings shouldn't be eaten directly, as they can be very hot. Watch, you can first bite a small hole and slowly sip out the soup before eating the rest."
Seeing Ginny and George get burned by the soup dumplings, Jerry used Transfiguration to produce a pair of chopsticks, picked up a dumpling, and began to teach everyone the proper way to eat them.
In the afternoon, Ron and the others continued their Quidditch practice on the small hill.
Mrs. Weasley, on the other hand, was discussing her decades of experience in raising seven children with Mrs. Granger.
Mr. Granger, Hermione, and Jerry followed Arthur to the large warehouse in front of The Burrow.
Opening the door, the first thing that caught their eyes was the light blue Ford Anglia 105E Deluxe that Arthur had modified, followed by various disassembled Muggle appliances.
The car seemed to move its door slightly, as if greeting Arthur.
"I cast an Enchantment Spell on it, so it has some of its own consciousness. However, it's quite shy and doesn't like to talk much!"
Arthur waved at the car.
"It's truly incredible!"
A car with its own consciousness was indeed a shock to Mr. Granger's worldview, even though he had said this many times today.
"Did you use the Undetectable Extension Charm to expand the car's interior?"
Jerry opened the car door and found that the space inside was at least four times that of a normal car.
Arthur smiled and nodded.
"Of course, considering our large family, a smaller space wouldn't have been enough!"
But he immediately added a warning:
"The Undetectable Extension Charm is strictly prohibited by the Ministry of Magic, so even if you learn it, don't use it recklessly. At the very least, don't let others know, or the Ministry of Magic will fine you!"
"Uncle Arthur, we understand. We rarely do anything dangerous or against the rules. Could you explain some of the alchemical techniques you used to modify this magic car?
I think with your skills, this magic car can do more than just fly!"
Jerry said earnestly.
"Of course!"
Arthur chuckled proudly.
"Besides using some alchemical techniques from the manufacturing of Flying Brooms to allow the car to absorb external magic power for flight, I also added a Disillusionment Charm to prevent Muggles from noticing it. Just pull this Invisibility Booster, and the entire car will be covered by the Disillusionment Charm."
