Chapter 216: Cargo Transport
Chapter 216: Cargo Transport
Unlike the 3.5 million Federation Credits required to teleport to Yunlan City, the distance from Zhonghai City to Qianshan City was much shorter, and the cost was a mere 380,000 Credits.
Of course, the term "mere" was relative. This amount was still quite a sum for an average Beastmaster, as it wasn't just an insignificant number but a substantial amount of money.
Although the price was a bit steep, it was still within Li Qian's budget, so he didn't hesitate and clicked to purchase without further thought.
Just as he reached out and lightly touched the screen to confirm the purchase, a red light suddenly shot out from the automated terminal.
The red light swept across and quickly disappeared, leaving behind a message on the terminal's screen.
"Purchase successful. Dear passenger, please proceed to the 15th basement level to board the Teleportation Array. Have a pleasant journey."
Seeing this, Li Qian couldn't help but smile. Although he had been in this world for several months, each time he experienced such advanced technology, he felt as if he had traveled through time.
After completing the ticket purchase, Li Qian wasted no time and headed straight to the elevator area.
The elevator area was located in the latter half of the hall and consisted of four central elevators in a square formation. Each side had elevators, and there were twenty elevators on each side, making a total of eighty elevators in one central elevator. With four such central elevators, the total number of elevators reached an impressive three hundred and twenty.
After a quick glance, Li Qian chose the elevator closest to him and walked over without haste.
Just as he reached the elevator door, a red light suddenly shot towards him, swift in its approach and abrupt in its departure.
The red light was not intense but rather gentle, and it didn't cause any discomfort when it shone on him. To be precise, it felt like being caressed by the morning sun in winter.
Ding!
The red light faded, and the elevator door automatically opened. The door didn't seem too large, only slightly bigger than a typical household door.
Li Qian stepped inside and found that despite the seemingly small entrance, the interior was quite spacious, covering an area of over twenty square meters.
As Li Qian prepared to press the button for the 15th basement level, he was surprised to see that there were no buttons inside the elevator at all.
Puzzled, he looked up and noticed that the display screen above showed his destination—the 15th basement level.
After a moment of thought, he realized that it was probably related to the red light scan that had occurred earlier. That scan might have recorded his information.
It was quite an intelligent system.
Muttering to himself, Li Qian decided not to dwell on it further and quietly waited for the elevator to start. After a moment, the elevator began to move, and a soft rustling sound filled the air. It was so faint that one might not notice it unless they were listening closely.
The rustling sound lasted for about one or two seconds, and almost immediately, the floor number on the display screen above dropped to -15!
Having already witnessed the advanced technology and intelligence of this Teleportation Center, Li Qian wasn't too surprised.
Exiting the elevator and arriving at the 15th basement level, Li Qian curiously looked around. The space was quite spacious, resembling a waiting hall with over a hundred chairs.
Continuing his scan, Li Qian soon spotted the location of the Teleportation Array, or more precisely, the entrance to it.
It was a pair of doors with a misty glow emanating from within. Above the doors, a display screen showed the message, "The next Teleportation Array to Qianshan City will depart in 15 minutes."
"Fifteen minutes..." Li Qian muttered to himself and found a chair to sit and rest.
He aimlessly, he noticed that there weren't many passengers heading to Qianshan City. Out of the hundred or so chairs, only twenty or thirty were occupied.
After sitting for a few minutes, the waiting area filled with a crisp and pleasant prompt sound, indicating that it was time to enter the Teleportation Array.
The two dozen passengers who heard the prompt almost simultaneously began to move towards the ticketing gate.
Some passengers, like Li Qian, had brought their pets and needed to go through the cargo transport process first. According to the Federation's Teleportation Transportation Law, uncontracted pets were not allowed to accompany Beastmasters during teleportation.
Even without this law, Li Qian would have done the same, as Professor Yan's evolutionary experience had taught him that pets could evolve by absorbing energy from Voidstones during teleportation, which might cause some spatial fluctuations.
In theory, these fluctuations weren't dangerous, but it was always better to be cautious. Professor Yan had specifically mentioned this in the data as well.
These spatial fluctuations, or even spatial turbulence, didn't significantly affect the pets. Therefore, Li Qian had already planned for this before his arrival.
Without wasting any time, he walked over and handed the Beastball containing the Fiery Storm Falcon, Xiao Hui, to a ticketing robot.
The ticketing robot resembled a small sprite with wings, and its eyes emitted a red light that scanned the Beastball before sending it through another translucent security gate.
After completing this process, Li Qian stepped through the first security gate, where a mechanical sprite hovered.
The mechanical sprite's eyes emitted a faint red light, and anyone who passed through this light was considered to have completed the ticketing process.
Since Li Qian had spent some time handling the cargo transport for Xiao Hui, he entered the security gate later than most. Inside, he realized that the Teleportation Array was actually a large circle of light.
The circle was surrounded by a hazy glow, making it difficult to discern its true shape. Thus, almost no one could figure out the actual appearance of the Teleportation Array.
Li Qian understood this arrangement, as the Teleportation Array was crucial for the safety of the passengers. It was necessary to have multiple safety measures to prevent any potential damage within the array.
Li Qian even suspected that these glows might have additional defensive functions, but they were not easily revealed.
And those who did know might have already met their end.
