Chapter 216: Arrogant! Too Arrogant!
Chapter 216: Arrogant! Too Arrogant!
"You, you saw that, right...?" A student in the audience stands was the first to regain his composure, stammering out the question.
Once the first voice broke the silence, others quickly followed.
The vast Saint Water Hall had been silent for several seconds, but then, like a dormant volcano suddenly awakening, it erupted into deafening chaos.
"Damn! What the hell was that?!"
"How could it not look like Shadow Control?!"
"Do you think there's a chance it actually was Shadow Control?"
"Fart! Shadow Control is an Advanced Skill! Treasure Seeker is a Junior pet; are you telling me a Junior pet learned an Advanced Skill?!"
"Then what do you think it was?"
A classmate nearby was taken aback, resting his elbow on his knee and propping his head in his hand, mumbling to himself, "Impossible, this is absolutely impossible..."
What kind of joke is this?
Although the Skill Treasure Seeker just used did indeed look a lot like Shadow Control, it was still a Treasure Seeker, a Junior pet! How could it possibly learn an Advanced Skill?!
He would believe it if it were an Intermediate Ghost-type pet.
Either he was dreaming, and this was all just a dream, or he simply didn't understand the Skills of Ghost-type Beast Companions well enough.
Yes, it must be that...
There were many others who, like this student, were unwilling to accept the reality.
"Liu Yao, did you see that?" Wang Weidou asked hesitantly.
"I saw it", Liu Yao murmured.
"Can you tell me what Skill that was?" Wang Weidou asked curiously. "It looked exactly like Shadow Control."
Liu Yao took a deep breath. "Shadow Control."
"Huh?" Wang Weidou was taken aback, then he patted Liu Yao's shoulder and laughed, "I didn't know you had a sense of humor now."
Liu Yao gave him a sidelong glance. "You're not a young man anymore, and you're the principal of a high school. Don't tell me you really can't tell."
Wang Weidou fell silent for a few seconds, his voice unconsciously lowering. "It's not that I don't believe you, but this is just too unbelievable. Do you know what this means?"
As he said this, Wang Weidou couldn't stop the trembling in his heart.
For a Junior Beast Companion to learn an Advanced Skill, not only had no student at Holy Water High School ever achieved this, but no Beastmaster in the entire country had ever done it since the nation's founding.
How could he believe it? How could he dare to believe that such a person had appeared at their school!
Liu Yao pondered for a moment. "It means that with Qiao Sang, we might have a chance to beat Litan Middle School and become number one this year."
Wang Weidou: "!!!"
Qiao Sang waited for a long time, but no one stepped up. The people who had been queuing up had all quickly returned to their seats.
Was it because her taunting wasn't harsh enough?
Thinking this, Qiao Sang turned her gaze to the female teacher beside her.
The female teacher was slightly startled but quickly stepped forward, handing her the microphone.
The teacher was clever; she understood without being told what Qiao Sang wanted to do. As Qiao Sang praised the teacher's intelligence, she brought the microphone to her mouth and addressed the area where the freshmen were seated. "Are you guys scared now?"
The freshmen awkwardly closed their mouths, afraid to speak and draw attention.
Shadow Control!
That was Shadow Control!
Everyone had just become Beastmasters, and being able to command their familiars to fight was already a big deal. Who in their right mind would step up to challenge a Ghost-type Beast Companion that knew an Advanced Skill?
That would just be asking for a beating!
If anyone had thought Qiao Sang's attitude was arrogant before, now no one found it out of place.
She had the power!
If their own familiars could be as formidable, learning Advanced Skills at the Junior stage, they would be even more arrogant than she was!
Even after saying all that, no one still stepped up... Qiao Sang's heart was pounding. This couldn't be the end, could it?
She hadn't earned many points yet!
At that moment, Principal Wang Weidou stood up and took the microphone. "If no one challenges her, then Qiao Sang will become the first official member of our school's new team."
After saying that, he turned to Qiao Sang and smiled warmly.
Thinking that Qiao Sang might be the key figure who could eliminate Litan and bring their school to glory, Wang Weidou’s smile widened even more.
What’s he smiling about? She hasn’t finished competing yet!
There was no way around it; she didn’t know when she might have another chance like today to earn Points… Qiao Sang took a deep breath and asked the Principal, “Can everyone have a chance to compete?”
Wang Weidou was taken aback for a moment. “Of course.”
“Good.” Qiao Sang looked up at the area where the senior and third-year students were seated and smiled. “Since the freshmen are too scared to come up, how about the senior and third-year students? Are they brave enough?”
Wang Weidou was stunned.
Arrogant! Too arrogant!
While it was true that the Treasure Seeker had learned Advanced Skills, it was still a Junior Companion Beast. Many of the senior and third-year students had two familiars, and some of them might even have both at the Intermediate Beast level.
The gap between a Junior Companion Beast and an Intermediate Beast wasn’t just about the number of skills.
Physical strength, resilience, reaction speed, and internal energy all had significant differences.
Even if the Treasure Seeker could use Shadow Control, as long as the opponent reacted quickly enough to avoid being controlled, or relied on the Intermediate Beast’s resistance to attacks, or even used a familiar with an attribute that overpowered the Ghost type, they could handle the Treasure Seeker.
This junior was just too overconfident.
“If we win, will you give up your spot on the School Team to us?” a second-year student shouted.
“Naturally,” Qiao Sang replied.
Wang Weidou’s face froze.
This wouldn’t do! He was counting on Qiao Sang to win against Litan in the national campus Beastmaster league.
“No…”
Wang Weidou had only managed to utter one word before the microphone was snatched away by Liu Yao beside him.
“What are you doing!” Wang Weidou exclaimed.
“Let her give it a try,” Liu Yao said calmly.
“Try what? If she wins and gets to replace her on the School Team, how am I supposed to beat Litan!” Wang Weidou shouted. “Other kids might be young and reckless, but why are you getting involved in this nonsense!”
Liu Yao responded calmly, “Qiao Sang has another familiar.”
Wang Weidou frowned. “I’m not blind. When I saw her Star Array was gray, I guessed as much. But what’s the point of having another Junior Companion Beast? Does she think she can win?”
Liu Yao gave him a disapproving look. “You never paid attention to the School Team. Qiao Sang’s other familiar is an Intermediate Beast.”
Wang Weidou was stunned. “Intermediate… Intermediate Beast?”
Liu Yao nodded.
“But even an Intermediate Beast isn’t enough. Without a guaranteed win, we can’t risk it!” Wang Weidou said urgently.
What a joke!
Why would they put such a precious gem up for a competition like this!
Liu Yao said calmly, “This is a great opportunity for practical experience. Training sessions might not be as effective as a few real battles. The School Team is all about survival of the fittest. As Principal, you decide who stays on the team.”
“Whoever beats Qiao Sang can join their respective year’s School Team as a reserve. I’m sure no student would refuse that.”
Wang Weidou was taken aback. That’s right, he was the Principal…
At that moment, the student who had been shouting at Qiao Sang spoke up again. “You can’t decide this. We’ve never had such a rule before. Ask the Principal if he agrees.”
Qiao Sang looked at the Principal with hopeful eyes.
Liu Yao promptly handed the microphone to Wang Weidou.
Wang Weidou was silent for two seconds, then took the microphone and said, “If anyone beats Qiao Sang, they can join their own year’s School Team.”
All the senior students: “!!!”
