Chapter 215: Young Master Mo
Chapter 215: Young Master Mo
Mo Hua's life had become much more exciting lately.
There were always Qian Family cultivators or hired cultivators looking to cause him trouble, but their every move was already anticipated by Mo Hua.
Most of the time, as soon as they attempted to make their move, they would be discovered by the Demon Hunters and given a thorough beating.
On rare occasions when they managed to hide from the nearby Demon Hunters, they couldn't escape Mo Hua's spiritual sense.
Mo Hua would then call over a few of the Demon Hunter uncles, and with a point of his little finger, he would single out the Qian Family cultivators who were following him. They, of course, would receive another round of merciless thrashing.
Mo Hua would just sit back and watch the show.
This made his days of cultivating and studying formations less monotonous.
On this day, Mo Hua was at the eatery, munching on some wild fruits sent by Jiang Yi while chatting with An Xiaufu.
Ever since that day Mo Hua treated him to a meal, An Xiaufu had been visiting frequently.
Mo Hua was a bit perplexed, "Don't you have a banquet hall at your place?"
"I'm tired of eating there. The food here is better, and it's more lively," An Xiaufu explained.
During his first few visits, An Xiaufu was rather restrained.
The other cultivators, seeing his unusual attire, didn't engage him in conversation either.
But as he started coming more often and became more familiar, and also because he was Mo Hua's friend, the other cultivators began chatting with him.
An Xiaufu was quite the food connoisseur, and he could talk at length about the various dishes. He also enjoyed listening to others talk about Dahuishan or the neighborhood, finding it all very interesting.
After a while, An Xiaufu became less uptight and more relaxed.
Occasionally, he would bring some wine brewed by the An Family to share with everyone, and they would reciprocate by offering him wild fruits, cakes, and the like.
The taste might not always be pleasant, but it was unique, and the gesture was sincere.
This made An Xiaufu even more inclined to frequent the eatery.
He felt stifled staying at the An Family residence, so he much preferred coming to the eatery to chat with ordinary cultivators and drink with them in a relaxed atmosphere.
Seeing that An Xiaufu was enjoying himself, Mo Hua breathed a sigh of relief.
An Xiaufu would tell Mo Hua about all sorts of strange and bizarre things, sometimes omitting details and sometimes embellishing the stories. But regardless of their veracity, Mo Hua found them all fascinating.
As the day grew late, An Xiaufu reluctantly headed home.
Mo Hua saw him out and then turned to see Zhang Lan approaching from the other side of the cobblestone path.
"Uncle Zhang? Why are you coming over now?"
Zhang Lan sighed, "I've been busy. I finally have some free time now."
Mo Hua clearly didn't believe him.
Zhang Lan helplessly said, "Go and help me order some food. I'll come over later; I have something to discuss with you."
"Anything expensive you want?"
"Yes, order whatever you like."
Mo Hua didn't really order anything too extravagant, just slightly more expensive dishes that he usually enjoyed but didn't get to eat often.
There was a type of mutton that had a slight gamy flavor but was very aromatic when chewed.
And there was also a spicy dog meat dish that was delicious.
These two demon beasts were herbivores, and although they killed humans, they didn't eat them, so their blood and energy were relatively cleaner.
There were also some seasonal vegetables and freshly cut fruits, totaling about four to five dishes, including meat and vegetarian options. They looked colorful and appetizing, laid out on Zhang Lan's table.
Zhang Lan picked up a pair of chopsticks and handed them to Mo Hua, "You sit down and eat too."
Mo Hua didn't stand on ceremony. He took the chopsticks and started eating.
The dishes were all delicious, partly because they were prepared by his mother, but also because he had chosen them himself.
After a few bites, Mo Hua couldn't help but narrow his eyes in satisfaction. But then he remembered that Zhang Lan would be paying in spirit stones, so he generously offered,
"I'll give you a 20% discount!"
Zhang Lan couldn't help but laugh, "Alright, 20% off! Thank you, Young Master Mo!"
"You're welcome."
Mo Hua also smiled and took another bite of the mutton before asking,
"You said you had something to discuss with me. What is it?"
"Indeed." Zhang Lan also took a bite of the meat, nodded, and continued, "He heard that you're skilled in drawing formations, so he wants to meet you."
"Just because of that?" Mo Hua asked, puzzled.
Zhang Lan sighed. It wasn't just that Mo Hua was skilled in drawing formations, but that he was exceptionally talented. He had no idea when Mo Hua had reached the level where he could draw top-tier formations. Even he was surprised when the Chief mentioned it.
"Drawing formations well will naturally earn you respect, especially at such a young age. The Chief definitely wants to meet the genius behind it all," Zhang Lan explained.
"There's another reason as well," Zhang Lan added, "It's because you helped build the Lianiang Store and the Pill Refinery in the south of the city. They are the biggest cultivation industries in Tongxian City."
"What does that have to do with the Chief?" Mo Hua asked, confused.
"The Daoting Court also values achievements," Zhang Lan said, "The stability of the region, spirit stone taxes, and the construction of cultivation projects all contribute to one's achievements. The biggest Pill Refinery and Lianiang Store in Tongxian City were established under his rule, so these accomplishments are naturally attributed to him."
Realization dawned on Mo Hua.
Zhang Lan took a sip of wine and continued, "The old Chief was diligent and hardworking in his younger days, but he didn't have much to show for it. Now that he's older and wishes to retire, he never expected such a huge achievement to fall into his lap."
Zhang Lan shook his head, finding it amusing, "I guess it's his good fortune. That's why the old Chief is incredibly grateful to you."
"I didn't do much, just drew some formations," Mo Hua said modestly.
Zhang Lan rolled his eyes at him, "That's enough. Too much humility is just arrogance in disguise."
How could you call that drawing "some" formations? From the architecture to the furnaces, you handled all the formations yourself, didn't you?
Zhang Lan couldn't help but sigh again as he thought of this. He had no idea how Mo Hua's mind worked or how he possessed such powerful spiritual sense.
That entire Lianiang Store and Pill Refinery, with all their intricate formations, had been designed by Mo Hua alone...
Mo Hua, feeling a bit anxious, asked, "Are there any precautions I should take when meeting the Chief? Are there any taboos I should be aware of?"
Zhang Lan shook his head.
"Oh, right," Mo Hua asked, "Is the Chief's surname Fu by any chance?"
Zhang Lan was taken aback, "What's with the surname Fu?"
"Well, if his surname was 'Fu', it would be one level lower, making him the 'Deputy Chief'. So, if his surname is Fu, he can only be addressed as 'Chief' and not 'Fu, the Chief'," Mo Hua explained.
Zhang Lan found this hilarious, "Where do you hear these things from?"
"That's part of my cultivation experience. You don't need to worry about where I heard it," Mo Hua replied.
Zhang Lan said helplessly, "The Chief's surname is Zhou, and he's a good person. He doesn't have any particular taboos. Don't worry, even if you say something inappropriate because of your age, he won't blame you."
"Okay," Mo Hua nodded.
Two days later, Mo Hua followed Zhang Lan into the Daoting Court to meet Chief Zhou.
The Daoting Court was quite impressive, but it was evident that some parts were old, and certain rooms were tightly closed, leaving one to wonder what secrets they held.
The accessible rooms were mostly used as offices for the court's disciples, furnished with a sober and unpretentious style. They were filled with various cultivation manuals, files, and jade slips of different shapes.
It looked a bit dull, not quite matching Mo Hua's imagination.
This was the aboveground structure, and it was said that there was also an underground prison called the "Dao Jail," used to incarcerate cultivators who violated the "Dao Laws."
Mo Hua was curious and wanted to take a look to broaden his horizons, but Zhang Lan wouldn't allow it.
