Chapter 215: Self-Imposed Handicap?
Chapter 215: Self-Imposed Handicap?
You Xuan, having arrived in this world through a projection powered by the Link System, could carry some of his virtual character's items from within the system.
Take the Duel Disk, for instance.
He extended his arm, and a pale blue stream of data flowed towards his left arm, quickly transforming into the duel disk he had equipped upon entering the Link System.
However, no sprite found it odd that he could conjure dueling equipment out of thin air; they were merely intrigued by his technologically advanced duel disk. Perhaps because they were used to their own duel disks appearing out of thin air when it was time to duel.
"Duel!" x2
You Xuan: LP 4000
Four-Eyed Demon: LP 4000
"I'll take the first turn. Draw!"
You Xuan drew a card and, without hesitation, swiftly set up five face-down cards.
"I'll set a monster in defense mode in the front row and four face-down cards in the back row. End turn."
With five face-down cards in one turn, he concluded the first round almost instantly, his speed surprising his opponent enough to make them think he was the first player.
If the students back at the Duel Academy, hardened by their rigorous training, were present, they would be sweating bullets by now. But these naive demons from another world lacked such perceptiveness.
"Hmph, playing it safe and consolidating your defense, eh? You'll soon learn that in a place like this, and against me, defense is futile!"
You Xuan mused that he had heard similar words countless times since arriving in this world. But by the end of the duel, such stubborn beliefs would invariably be shaken.
"A word of advice. Within these walls, the strong rule over the weak—it's an eternal truth. While killing other inmates is forbidden, conflicts and skirmishes are generally settled according to our internal rules."
The Four-Eyed demon narrowed his eyes again, a cold smile playing on his lips.
"And for duelists like us, victory determines who makes the rules going forward. Additionally, the loser of a duel, by the rules, must hand over any card the winner chooses. That's how it works here. Understand?"
You Xuan frowned upon hearing this.
Huh? Only one card per duel?
How many duels would it take to win an entire deck at that rate? That's absurdly slow.
You Xuan's first reaction was that their rules needed an overhaul.
But it didn't matter. After this duel, when it was his turn to set the rules, he'd make some adjustments.
"My turn, draw!"
The Four-Eyed demon glanced at his hand and soon smirked.
"Hmph, with this hand, I can launch the perfect offense right off the bat. I activate..."
"Hold on, it's still the preparation phase."
You Xuan snapped his fingers.
"I activate my trap card—Slot Slider. It can be activated when your opponent has four or more cards in their hand. It lets me view their hand and return one of their monster cards to their deck."
Hmm? Let me see your hand?
"You want to see my hand?" The Four-Eyed demon furrowed his brow.
Six card images from his hand sequentially appeared before You Xuan, who swiftly scanned them.
As expected, given his appearance, he seemed to be running a Demon-themed deck, but at a glance, it didn't seem particularly strong.
You Xuan casually pointed to one of the monsters.
"Return 'Interception Demon' to your deck."
Interception Demon, a four-star monster with 1400 attack points. It had a burn effect that inflicted 500 points of damage during the opponent's attack declaration.
"Tch, you pesky brat."
The Four-Eyed demon scowled but complied, and the designated card turned into a dark stream that flew back into his deck.
"But do you think such petty tricks will save you?
"Activating a face-down card, Quick-Play Magic—Great Cold!" You Xuan continued. "This turn, I cannot activate any Magic or Trap Cards or set any cards. In response, I activate 'Sprite's Mirror!' "
As he spoke, a female sprite appeared on the field, holding a mirror that reflected the image of the Great Cold card.
"Sprite's Mirror redirects the effect of a Magic Card that targets a single player to another player." You Xuan explained.
The Four-Eyed Demon paused, processing this information. He then narrowed his four eyes, the realization dawning on him, and growled, "You...!"
"Yes, the effect of 'Great Cold' now affects you. This turn, you cannot activate any Magic or Trap Cards, nor can you set any cards," You Xuan said with a smile. "You're welcome."
The demon's eyes widened, and he felt the urge to tear that smug smile from You Xuan's face. The other demons present also realized what had happened, their jaws dropping in disbelief.
The Four-Eyed Demon's initial hand of six cards had been reduced to just four, and he hadn't even started his turn yet. One of his monsters had been banished before it even entered the field, and his remaining Magic and Trap Cards were useless.
The demons exchanged glances, their expressions incredulous. Even they found You Xuan's dueling style a bit unorthodox.
"Damn it, but I still have one more card I can play!" The Four-Eyed Demon gritted his teeth and played his last remaining card. "I Normal Summon 'Archfiend Soldier!' "
[Archfiend Soldier, ATK: 1900]
A four-star monster with an impressive 1900 ATK. It was a strong individual card. Most likely, You Xuan hadn't targeted it earlier with his Slip Shuffle because he was a mortal, and the other card had a burn effect that dealt damage during the opponent's attack.
"I activate my face-down, 'Pitfall of the Netherworld.' When your opponent summons a monster with 1500 or more ATK, destroy it and banish it from play," You Xuan said calmly as he flipped the Trap Card.
The Archfiend Soldier crumbled and fell into the pitfall, vanishing into another dimension.
The Four-Eyed Demon was left speechless.
