Chapter 215: Reception - The Crimson Red Imprinted Tree Monster
Chapter 215: Reception - The Crimson Red Imprinted Tree Monster
“I’m back!”
Every time Natsu returned from a distant mission, the guild’s door would innocently take a hit.
Rachy, who was nearby, complained, “Natsu, you’re going to break the door! It’s really hard to fix!”
Natsu seemed to be in a very agitated state, “Where’s Roed? Come out quickly!”
“Don’t shout. Roed is either in the back yard, the library, or with Mira. Go find him yourself,” Rachy felt that Natsu alone was louder than half the guild combined.
Natsu threw his backpack carelessly and ran to the back yard, already catching a whiff of something.
Happi picked up the backpack and flew to the counter, submitting the mission report.
Mira asked, “What’s wrong with Natsu? It seems like he’s looking for trouble with Roed. Did the mission not go Well?”
“Yeah! Because of the forest ranger job Roed introduced us to, the client was very troublesome. We were supposed to work for fifteen days, but then it suddenly increased to twenty days, and even after twenty days, they Wanted to Add more.”
“Although the pay is calculated by the day, the constant changes are really annoying. We can’t do this, we can’t do that…”
“Ah, I see…” Mira sympathized with their situation. Mages occasionally encounter such clients.
They often add extra requirements during the mission, and as long as they’re not too unreasonable, mages usually don’t refuse.
Natsu’s situation, where the client extended the duration and increased the pay, was actually not too bad. The additional requirements were also within the scope of a forest ranger’s duties.
So, Natsu had been enduring it without causing trouble.
If one were to count, Natsu has caused countless incidents, but he has never beaten up a client. Even Elfman can’t compare to him in this regard.
However, being ordered around for so long was definitely frustrating, and on his way back, Natsu was thinking about having a fight with Roed the entire time, except when he was feeling Dizzy from the travel.
“Here’s your move, Roed! Fire Dragon’s Iron Fist!”
“Natsu, what’s gotten into you all of a sudden?”
Roed was practicing short-distance sprints in the back yard when Natsu suddenly appeared and wanted to fight, and he even came with a move.
If Roed hadn’t dodged quickly, his handsome face would have needed Mira’s help with the ointment again.
“Just fight first!”
“Fine, let’s fight.”
Roed hadn’t had a serious fight with Natsu in a while, and it wasn’t a bad idea to have one.
Bang!
The two fists collided, and fiery light scattered.
Natsu’s fist was still engulfed in flames, while Roed’s fist was covered in Stone Armor before the collision.
Although he usually prefers to use the Shadow Wolf form, it’s more vulnerable to fire, so the Stone Beetle form is more suitable.
He has become quite skilled at partial and full reception, and his partial reception of the Stone Beetle looked like a similar earth magic to Natsu’s.
If he had shouted ‘Earth Dragon’s Rock Fist,’ it might have even convinced some people.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Fists, elbows, and legs continuously clashed as the two engaged in a fierce battle.
Natsu’s every move was accompanied by flames, and Roed’s every strike was met with Stone Armor.
This method of using reception magic was beneficial for endurance and looked like it had special effects, making the fight look cooler.
The key point was that being able to do this demonstrated a high level of control over reception magic.
He had to thank Mira for her dedicated guidance and Elfman for his hard work in Practice.
If there was a downside to fighting this way, it was that it heavily tested Roed’s reaction speed.
At first, it was manageable, but as Natsu became more serious, it became increasingly difficult.
Natsu isn’t the kind of opponent who can be beaten with just a few partial receptions.
“Full Reception - Ancient Stone Beetle!”
“Fire Dragon’s Fang Crush!”
The flames, like the claws of a giant dragon, clawed at Roed’s shoulder. Roed raised his hand to block, leaving three scorch marks on his forearm.
He lifted his knee to strike at Natsu’s stomach, but Natsu pushed off with both hands and jumped back a short distance. “What’s with you, getting so hard all of a sudden?”
Roed rubbed his fists and lied, “Got hit a lot, I guess. If you let me hit you a hundred times, you’ll get hard too.”
“Don’t fool me, Fire Dragon’s Wing Strike!”
The flames, like the wings of a giant dragon, swept downward. Roed dodged as if he were walking on water, quickly sinking into the ground.
By the time Natsu landed, Roed had grabbed his ankle and dragged him into the earth, leaving only his head exposed.
Roed jumped back up to the surface, looking at his wooden training equipment with a pained expression. “You idiot! Do you want to burn down the guild?”
“Stop nagging, it didn’t really burn!” Natsu’s body shook in the earth, and he burst out, his feet spewing flames. He raised one arm like a robot and charged at Roed. “Fire Dragon’s Iron Fist!”
Roed took the punch head-on, the massive force pushing him backward. He crashed through the fence, his arm and chest charred black from the flames.
Great, another part of the guild destroyed. Natsu is like a walking disaster.
“Reception - Crimson Red Imprinted Tree Monster!”
Roed’s body swelled to three meters tall, his entire form wrapped in vines, transforming him into a tree-like creature. A bright red light ball glowed on his chest, surrounded by green leaf patterns.
Natsu, seeing this form for the first time, gaped. “What is this?”
“First, take my slap!” Roed’s hand, like a giant fan, came down, his fingers burning with red flames.
“Wah~ Ha!” Natsu raised his arms to block but was pushed into the ground by the force.
“Again!” Roed’s other hand swept horizontally, his palm striking Natsu’s chest.
“Wah!” Natsu was slapped away, crashing through the guild’s wall and smashing the bulletin board.
The mission request sheets flew everywhere, and Natsu landed on top of Nab, the two of them rolling into a heap.
“Natsu!?” Happy was shocked. Natsu had actually been hit by Roed?
“Ara ara~” Mira said with concern, “You two, don’t lose the mission requests.”
Nab lay on his back. “Are the mission requests the main issue right now?”
“It hurts so much! What kind of flames are those!” Natsu shouted, jumping up and dashing out of the hole he had made, even expanding it a bit.
“Roed!!!”
This time, Natsu was engulfed in flames, clearly taking the fight more seriously.
“Fire Dragon’s Iron Fist! Claw! Horn!”
Dragon Slayer magic attacks came one after another, and Roed simply slapped them back with his palm.
From the feedback in his palm, Roed felt that Natsu’s attacks were getting heavier. He couldn’t tell if the kid was holding back or getting stronger as they fought.
After a dozen more exchanges, Natsu saw his chance and pounced, biting down on Roed’s right hand, which was wrapped in flames.
“Gonna chew you up!”
Natsu’s words were muffled, as if he intended to swallow the flames on Roed’s hand.
“Disgusting!” Roed shook his arm. “Let go!”
“Not a chance!” Natsu hung on, swinging through the air as Roed shook him like a rag doll.
“Let go!”
“Not a chance!”
