Chapter 215: Lanchi Has the Heart of an Apprentice
Chapter 215: Lanchi Has the Heart of an Apprentice
In the center of the grand hall, natural light filtered through the dome, gently swaying and providing illumination to the serene space, though it was not particularly bright.
Loren strode towards Lanchi and Karen, doing his best to calm the turmoil within.
"Dean Loren."
Both Lanchi and Karen greeted the arriving dean.
They were grateful that Dean Loren had taken time out of his busy schedule to provide them with the opportunity to observe the Primal Tablet.
"Lanchi..."
Loren's attention was mostly focused on Lanchi, and after observing his expression for a while, he said, "Perhaps I should arrange another session for you."
When Loren saw Lanchi here, he couldn't shake the sense of foreboding.
Lanchi, on the other hand, looked bewildered and slightly confused, as if he didn't understand why the dean was hesitating.
The dean was going to be very busy in the coming days, so how could he spare any more time?
Just as Lanchi fell into a brief silence, about to ask about Loren's work concerns, Karen spoke up first.
"Dean Loren, Lanchi is strong and reliable. I feel safe observing the domain of the Primal Tablet of Wind with him."
Karen bowed politely and said considerately, "Lanchi also wants to reduce your workload, Dean."
"Is that so?"
Loren felt that there was a harmonious yet subtle distance between Lanchi and Karen.
It didn't seem like Lanchi was coercing or enticing Karen in any way.
Suspecting Lanchi without reason would make it seem like he had a bias against him...
"Lanchi, Karen is the most valued student by the Yaloran side in this academic visit group. I need to ensure that she returns to the Kingdom of Yalora safely, healthily, and happily according to the itinerary. But I've been too busy lately and can't spare the time. Can you help me with this?"
Loren looked at Lanchi and asked.
He was very subtly asking Lanchi to promise that he wouldn't do anything that would cause any physical or mental harm to Karen.
Loren was extremely afraid that something might happen to Karen.
He had no choice but to entrust this matter to Lanchi.
"No problem. Rest assured, I guarantee that Karen will be happy and won't suffer any grievances during her time at our school."
Lanchi nodded with a smile, his sense of responsibility evident.
"Then, let's observe it together."
Loren thought about it and felt that he might have misunderstood Lanchi this time.
Lanchi always kept his promises, and aside from his personal style, his commitment was indeed trustworthy.
"By the way, Lanchi, although you're great at card making, but..."
Loren hesitated,
"Never mind, just get along with Karen."
He was actually a little worried that Lanchi might discourage Karen, and there were some things he found difficult to say.
However, Lanchi didn't seem like the type to be arrogant and overbearing.
Based on his understanding of Lanchi, he knew that Lanchi wouldn't bully Karen, relying on his own talent.
"Please wait a moment while I open the door to the inner realm of the tablet for you."
After speaking briefly with the two of them, Loren made his way to the circle of tables and chairs where the council seats were located in the center of the hall, greeting and negotiating with the scholars sent by the Mage Tower.
There was only one routine recorder from the Mage Tower, along with several staff members from various magic craftsman associations, who respectfully greeted Dean Loren.
Obviously, although Dean Loren appeared unassuming and approachable, with no air of superiority, even friendly and approachable to the students of the Sage's College, he was an extremely revered figure outside. He was not only the High Priest of the Church of the Goddess of Fate but also the renowned holder of the Primal Tablet throughout the Southern Continent.
As for the Mage Academy, faculty members would usually come to collect observation results, but today being Saturday, they refused to work overtime and simply didn't show up.
Somehow, a reporter from the Herton Times had blown in.
Since the start of the event, a lively young reporter had been seated, constantly waving at Lanchi as if trying to attract his attention. Lanchi merely responded with polite gestures, refraining from further interaction.
Sitting in the front row was Lu Weishi, a reporter for the Herton Times and secretary of the student council, eagerly awaiting her chance to interview Lanchi and Karen.
Although Lanchi didn't recognize her since they hadn't crossed paths at the student council room, she was already well aware of Lanchi and Hyperian, the two newcomers to the student council.
During this brief moment of waiting, Karen found herself intrigued by Loren Dean's earlier words of caution.
She turned to Lanchi, a curious expression on her face.
"So, Student Lanchi, you're quite skilled in card making?" she asked softly.
There were many types of magic artisans, and among those proficient in magic engineering at the Sage's College, there tended to be more scroll masters and appraisers.
Typically, professional magic artisans would opt to attend the Magic Industry Academy instead of the Sage's College, which primarily focused on combat-related professions.
The fact that Dean Loren had allowed Lanchi to observe the Primal Tablet suggested that Lanchi possessed a talent for magic engineering along with some magic artisan skills.
And it turned out that Lanchi's specialty was indeed card making.
"Slightly," Lanchi replied modestly.
He could tell from Dean Loren's earlier remark that he was being advised to remain humble, and so he conducted himself with even more composure than usual.
"Do you know how much weight Dean Loren's praise carries?" Karen asked with a mischievous smile. She and Lanchi had spent enough time with Dean Loren to understand his standing, unlike others who might not fully grasp his stature.
"Dean Loren has never seen me blow up a card," Lanchi sighed.
Tata, for instance, constantly called him a garbage card maker.
As they chatted softly, all the conventional procedures were completed, and Dean Loren returned to stand near Lanchi and Karen once more.
Their casual conversation came to a halt.
"Let's begin," Dean Loren said, and without pause, he summoned an ancient stone carving—a thin, small, and smooth board. Its deep and rich hues, darkened by the passage of time, held faint magical patterns that flickered in and out of visibility, and its bluish-gray waves swayed gently with the wind, as if narrating a story that had been dormant for countless millennia.
The moment this stone board appeared, a gentle breeze seemed to sweep through the entire ancient tower library, causing the pages of books to flutter and dance in the sunlight like sprites of the grand hall—light and agile.
Sensing the terrifying magic emanating from it, many students in the upper levels were drawn to the spectacle, gathering on the balconies to witness Dean Loren, who stood at the center of the foundation layer plaza of the ancient tower library.
As Dean Loren infused this uniquely shaped epic magic card with his magic, cracks began to appear on the surface of the stone carving, growing in number until the entire board fractured, revealing its true form.
It was a crystal-clear, translucent magic card that seemed to shimmer in and out of existence.
But what truly captured everyone's attention—
Was the peculiar radiance it emitted, not pure orange but tinged with a hint of scarlet!
The next second, after this floating card had devoured a certain amount of Loren's magic, it abruptly underwent a metamorphosis, forming a small portal in the middle of the ancient tower library.
"You may proceed."
Maintaining the expanded state of the Primal Tablet required a constant drain of Dean Loren's magic.
However, he trusted that Lanchi and Karen knew what to do next without him having to explain, as the process was similar to entering the Shadow World.
The two bid farewell to Dean Loren and passed through the portal one after the other.
Unlike the real Shadow World, this stone tablet domain resembled an artificial shadow world, requiring no matching process or waiting period.
Within seconds of being enveloped in chaotic darkness, the entire world lit up once more.
