Chapter 215: Key...Parseltongue...Chamber
Chapter 215: Key Parseltongue Chamber
Harry was taken aback. He had clearly seen Malfoy's eyes fixed on Ivan, so why was he suddenly calling him?
Ivan was equally surprised. He had already prepared himself to go up on stage.
"Potter! Come up here!" Lockhart shouted, grabbing Harry's hand and pulling him onto the stage.
"Alright, now face your opponent! bow!" Lockhart looked at the two of them.
Harry's expression was somewhat tense, his right hand tightly gripping his wand. Malfoy, on the other hand, seemed more relaxed, calculating how to make the other person look foolish.
However, both were incredibly stubborn and had no intention of bowing.
"bow like this, come on, let me show you!" Lockhart patiently corrected Harry and Malfoy's improper actions, forcing them to face each other and bow, which made both of them feel quite awkward.
Next, Lockhart interfered with the Spells they would use during the duel, instructing Malfoy to use the Disarming Charm and Harry to use the Armor Charm for defense.
Considering they were only in their second year, Lockhart personally demonstrated how to cast the Spells.
"Expelliarmus!" Lockhart pointed his wand forward, and a red light shot out from the tip, flying into the distance.
Lockhart turned to look at Malfoy. "You need to do it like this, Malfoy, understand?"
Malfoy was confused and was about to say something when Lockhart had already turned to Harry and began teaching him how to use the Armor Charm.
"Protego!" Lockhart pointed his wand at himself, and an illusory magical barrier appeared around him. "Harry? Do you know how to cast it?"
"Protego~" Harry clumsily followed along a few times, pointing his wand at himself, but nothing happened.
"Professor", Harry looked anxiously at Lockhart, wanting him to teach him again.
"Now, begin!" But Lockhart ignored him and urged Malfoy to quickly use the Disarming Charm.
"Expelliarmus!" Malfoy shouted.
Harry hurriedly recited the incantation for the Armor Charm again.
The two stood facing each other, but nothing happened.
The scene was quite awkward.
Ivan was almost laughing out loud. The Disarming Charm and the Armor Charm were Spells that older students would learn, typically requiring extensive practice to master. It wasn't just about knowing the incantation; the correct gestures were also necessary to cast the Spells.
Lockhart himself was half-baked, relying on magical props to use these Spells, so his method was fundamentally flawed. It would be a miracle if Harry and Malfoy could cast the Spells.
"I think there's something wrong with Professor Lockhart. He must be using something else to cast those Spells", Hermione, who had already learned the Armor Charm in the previous year, said suspiciously, looking at the incompetent Lockhart on stage.
Hermione then turned to Ivan, who was trying to suppress his laughter.
"Ivan, you must know something, right?"
"No, I don't know anything", Ivan quickly shook his head. Since he had been paid, he certainly wouldn't deliberately expose Lockhart.
However, Lockhart's various antics were making Ivan quite helpless.
If this continued, it wouldn't be long before Lockhart was exposed again.
After waving their wands foolishly for a while, Harry and Malfoy also realized that what Professor Lockhart had taught them was completely useless.
Both sides exchanged a glance and, as if by some unspoken agreement, disregarded the shouting Lockhart and reacted almost simultaneously.
"Rictusempra!"
"Tarantallegra!"
A red and a green beam of Spell light collided in mid-air, then veered off to the sides, forming a curved halo of light. Malfoy ducked to avoid the magic aimed at him and shouted first.
"Serpensortia!"
A flash erupted from the tip of Malfoy's wand, and a long black snake burst out of the black mist, landing heavily on the dueling floor. It raised its head high and hissed menacingly.
"I remember I told you to use the Disarming Charm, Malfoy!" Lockhart said, clearly displeased. He raised his wand and cast a counter-Spell to make the black snake disappear.
However, his Spell went wild again. The black snake, upon being hit by his Spell, rapidly swelled up, transforming into a giant python.
The young wizards on both sides immediately screamed and retreated, afraid that the black snake would slither off the stage. The scene descended into chaos.
"Petrification Charm!" Lockhart barely remembered he had another Spell and used it.
The black giant python, struck by the Spell, began to tremble all over, struggling and shaking off pieces of its skin, looking extremely distressed.
At that moment, a "hissing" sound came from Harry's mouth. The black giant python, in pain, turned its head to stare at him and made the same hissing sound, as if the two were communicating.
The exchange didn't last long. The black giant python gave up struggling and collapsed on the floor, turning into a stone statue of a snake.
Watching this from below, Ivan felt something in his mind suddenly click when Harry spoke in Parseltongue.
The words Luna had said to him before and the prompts from the system suddenly connected in his mind.
A phrase praising someone for being a Parseltongue character
Ivan had a vague suspicion but needed to confirm it with someone.
He looked at Harry on the stage, who had spoken in Parseltongue without realizing it. After some thought, Ivan shook his head and decided to test Tom when he returned.
After all, he might need to learn this language, and asking Harry would not be very convenient for keeping it secret.
Due to the chaos caused by Harry's duel with Malfoy, the so-called Duelling Club quickly came to an end.
"Goodness, Harry, you're a Parselmouth, and you've been hiding it from us all this time!" On the way back to the dormitory, Ron lowered his voice but couldn't hide his shock.
"Parselmouth? What does that mean? You mean talking to snakes?" Harry said, confused. He didn't understand why Ron was so agitated but mentioned that he had spoken to a large snake from Brazil before starting school.
"I think many people at the school can do it, right?" Harry said hopefully.
"No, that's not a common ability", Ron shook his head and told Harry that in the magical world, Parselmouths and Dark Wizards were almost synonymous.
"It's not that bad, you know. It's said that the founders of Hogwarts could speak Parseltongue", Ivan said, trying to comfort him.
