Chapter 214: You Blame Me? How Dare You!
Chapter 214: You Blame Me? How Dare You!
Chayi Niang frantically shook her head, "Impossible, that's my brother! My own brother! Your Highness, there must be some mistake. Someone wants to harm me. There must be someone targeting me. Who is it? Who?"
Chayi Niang, in her madness, first clawed at Princess Qii, then turned to claw at Ren, the Concubine.
Princess Qi remained silent, thinking that this person would soon be no more, and responding would be a waste of time.
However, Ren, the Concubine, was not one to tolerate anyone's antics.
So, when Chayi Niang started clawing at her, she coldly huffed, "You blame me? How dare you!"
Six words, an instant kill!
Enraged, Chayi Niang screamed and shouted, but was still taken away by the officials from the Court of Judicial Review.
Prince Qi's face darkened as he casually remarked, "It doesn't matter. Once you're in the Court of Judicial Review's dungeon, you can ask your brother when you see him, and then you'll know."
Chalingzhi originally thought that her uncle would stand up for her when he returned.
She never expected such a sudden turn of events!
She froze in shock.
Despite her cunning, she was still just a child.
Faced with such a grand scene, she curled up in fear, too scared to move.
Prince Qi didn't notice her, and Princess Qi was more concerned about Sui Sui.
Having been away from the mansion for a day, she didn't know how the child was doing.
Just as she was about to ask Ren, the Concubine, the latter spoke up loudly, "There's still one left in that corner. I also have something to say. That girl has an evil heart. She jumped into the water herself and dragged Sui Sui down with her. After they got ashore, she tried to frame Sui Sui by saying that Sui Sui pushed her. Sui Sui is still running a fever in the back courtyard."
At the mention of Sui Sui's fever, Princess Qi forgot about everything else and turned to head towards the back courtyard at a quick pace.
Prince Qi was stunned when he heard this.
He knew that Chalingzhi was not a good child.
Because they were hoping that Chayi Niang would give birth to a daughter, they often turned a blind eye to this child's behavior.
Now, upon hearing that this child had harmed Sui Sui, Prince Qi was displeased. He waved his hand and said, "Take her away as well. They're all from the Che family. They won't be able to escape eventually."
As soon as these words left his mouth, the officials from the Court of Judicial Review took action.
Chalingzhi screamed and wailed in fear, wetting her pants. "Uncle, save me! I didn't do anything! It was that vile Sui Sui who pushed me! Believe me, Uncle!"
Prince Qi didn't want to listen anymore. He, too, was worried about Sui Sui.
So, after gesturing for Chalingzhi to be taken away, he strode towards the back courtyard.
Realizing that he wasn't walking fast enough, Prince Qi soon started running.
However, due to his slightly overweight build, he became breathless after a few steps.
This left him with no choice but to stop again.
Prince Qi's heart felt heavy as he paused. He didn't attribute his lack of stamina to his weight; instead, he believed that it was the Che family's doing!
Their poison had damaged his body, reducing his kidney qi and leaving him with poor physical endurance.
It had to be the case!
Damn the Che family!
Why had he been so blind? Prince Qi clenched his teeth in anger, then turned to look at Siui and said, "Make sure to deal severely with the Che family. Don't let a single one of them get away!"
As he spoke, Prince Qi had already arrived at the back courtyard where Ren, the Concubine, resided.
Zhou Niang and the others were worried and gathered there as well.
Meng Ce Fei, upon waking up, had also come over.
The young masters of the mansion had skipped their afternoon physical education class and were keeping watch over Sui Sui.
Sui Sui had woken up briefly but fell asleep again after taking her medicine.
Doctor Liu had initially thought that her condition wasn't too serious.
However, when Princess Qi came to check on her, the child's temperature had noticeably risen.
Doctor Liu's face turned grave as he felt her pulse, adjusted the prescription, and then administered the new acupuncture treatment to Sui Sui.
The child was suffering from the fever, and although the needles didn't cause pain, she could still feel a dull sensation where they were inserted.
As Sui Sui struggled fitfully, Princess Qi's heart felt as though it was shattering into a million pieces.
Seated beside the bed, Princess Qi gently yet firmly restrained Sui Sui, her hands moving with precision as she administered the acupuncture. Tears streamed down her face as she softly coaxed, "Be a good girl, Sui Sui. The needles will help, and the discomfort will soon pass."
Concubine Ren stood by, her heart aching as she witnessed the poignant scene. She wiped away her tears and then gently dabbed at Princess Qi's cheeks, offering silent comfort.
Prince Qi paced anxiously nearby, feeling helpless as he realized there was no space for him by the bed. Princess Qi, the two concubines, and Doctor Liu crowded around Sui Sui, leaving no room for him.
Even Earth Chili was present, physically cooling Sui Sui down. With so many people gathered around the small bed, Prince Qi was forced to wait anxiously in the background.
Aunt Zhou and Aunt Wen, considerate of the situation, retreated to the outer room, waiting anxiously for news. Aunt Wen's health was not the best, and the events of the day had taken a toll on her. Her throat felt itchy, and she couldn't help but start coughing.
Aunt Zhou whispered to her, "Why don't you go and rest? We live close by; it's just a few steps away. If anything happens, I'll call for you." There was no need for her to be there if something unfortunate were to happen to the child... In such a case, the entire mansion would surely know, and there would be no need for her to spread the news.
If it were just a minor matter, they, as aunties, wouldn't be of much help anyway. Hearing Aunt Zhou's suggestion, Aunt Wen shook her head. "She's such a pitiful child. I'll stay a little longer."
As she finished speaking, she couldn't hold back another bout of coughing. Fenghuan Jie quietly approached, having been listening to the commotion. For the moment, he set aside his concerns for Sui Sui and gently helped his mother pat her back, doing his best to soothe her coughing.
That night, no one in the entire Prince Qi's Mansion slept well. Even the other concubines, whose presence was usually overlooked, came by several times, their worry evident.
Of course, the concubines who put on a show of concern were promptly sent away by Concubine Ren, who glared at them coldly. Throughout the night, Sui Sui's fever fluctuated, but by dawn, it finally broke.
Doctor Liu took her pulse again and heaved a sigh of relief. "I think she'll be fine now. Everyone, please get some rest. She should wake up in about a quarter of an hour. When she does, give her some warm porridge. She hasn't eaten anything all night, so she must be hungry."
Knowing that Sui Sui was out of danger, Princess Qi wiped away her tears once more. Prince Qi's heart, which had been heavy with worry, finally eased.
Concubine Ren and the others also breathed a collective sigh of relief. However, no one suggested leaving. They all remained by Sui Sui's side.
The young masters had dozed off at some point during the night but had gotten up, washed their faces, and returned to wait anxiously.
The younger Feng Xuanrui didn't fully understand the situation, but he wanted to stay by his sister's side. As for Feng Xuan and the others, they had been afraid to fall asleep, fearing that they would wake up to bad news. So, they had stayed awake, hoping that by not sleeping, they could ensure Sui Sui's recovery.
Guo Niang, who came from a merchant background, had also come in several times throughout the night, bringing precious medicinal ingredients and various other supplies. Doctor Liu selected the most critical items and put them to use.
The porridge prepared for Sui Sui that morning was made with kudzu starch that Guo Niang had sent over. The kudzu was added to a porridge of millet, creating a concoction that would help reduce Sui Sui's fever and quench her thirst.
Guo Niang was delighted to see her contributions being put to use. When she heard that Sui Sui had woken up and drunk the porridge, her joy knew no bounds. She wanted to share the good news with someone but was hesitant due to her merchant background. After a moment's thought, she quietly returned to her room and let out a soft sigh.
