Chapter 214: The Past is the Past, the Present is the Present
Chapter 214: The Past is the Past, the Present is the Present
The conversation, which only the two of them understood, sounded to outsiders like playful banter. Mrs. Weasley and her husband’s surprise and delight grew more evident with each word.
"Vera, can I call you that?"
Mrs. Weasley’s voice trembled, her eyes brimming with tears, but her face wore a warm, relieved smile as she took Silke’s hand.
Silke, caught off guard by such enthusiasm, knew that Mrs. Weasley was a close elder to Sherlock.
"Sure, Mrs. Weasley—"
"No, call me Aunt Weasley!"
Mrs. Weasley, ever the warm-hearted host, pulled Silke into the tent to chat about family matters. Outside, Mr. Weasley, having lost interest in figuring out the lighter, quietly inquired about Silke.
"What does she do for a living?"
"Previously, she worked as a Silencer in the Department of Mysteries at the German Ministry of Magic. She resigned and came to Britain, and now she has found a new job."
Sherlock explained with a sigh, wishing he could set Mr. Weasley straight but unsure where to begin.
He genuinely had no romantic feelings for Silke.
Perhaps before he went back in time, the embrace she gave him in his office had stirred some different emotions. But after meeting the young Amy and realizing that Amy was Silke, his feelings for her became complicated and awkward.
Overall, he felt more like an elder. He and Eddie were close friends, and his relationship with Amy was more like that of an uncle and niece.
Although Silke was technically a year older than him, Sherlock maintained a proper mindset and had no other intentions.
Otherwise, it would feel like he was taking advantage of his friend’s daughter, someone he had watched grow up. This thought made Sherlock feel like a complete pervert.
Mr. Weasley, however, couldn’t relate to Sherlock’s complex feelings and simply remarked with a sigh.
"Being a Silencer isn’t something just anyone can do. This girl must be very talented, but—" He hesitated, then couldn’t help but ask, "What happened to her eyes?"
Sherlock explained matter-of-factly.
"She’s not blind. It was just an accident, and there will be a way to restore her vision."
Hearing this, Mr. Weasley nodded in relief but continued to press for more details.
"When did you two meet? Why haven’t you mentioned her before?"
"Last year, at the start of the school term at Hogwarts."
While Mr. Weasley and Mrs. Weasley grilled Sherlock and Silke, Harry and the others were drawn out of their tents by the commotion.
The Weasley siblings, along with Harry and Hermione, stood by the tent, watching the scene from a distance.
"Sherlock’s girlfriend is really beautiful", Charlie, the second oldest of the Weasley siblings, commented.
He was a tall, muscular wizard who had been the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team before graduating. Sherlock hadn’t taught him, but they had known each other during their school days.
The others nodded in agreement; they had never seen a girl as beautiful as Silke.
"Only, why are her eyes covered? Doesn’t that make it hard for her to walk?" Ginny, the youngest and about to start her third year, asked curiously.
Harry, who knew more about the situation, speculated.
"It’s probably a special kind of magic. The blindfold doesn’t affect her at all."
"Hey, I know you’re all interested in Professor Forrest’s gossip", George said, grimacing as his stomach growled, "but with the way Mom and Dad are acting, what are we going to do about lunch?"
Bill, the leader, smiled.
"Let's not disturb them for now. I brought quite a few snacks, and they should be enough to tide us over for lunch."
Harry and the others cheered, eagerly joining Bill to sort through the snacks.
Mr. Weasley and Sherlock chatted until three in the afternoon before they realized the time. By then, Mrs. Weasley had also finally let Silke out of the tent, still engrossed in their conversation.
The children had managed to make do with the snacks for lunch, so the Weasleys decided to start preparing dinner. It was likely to be dark by the time they finished.
It was only then that Sherlock and the others had the chance to set up their own tent.
Setting up a Magic Tent was actually quite simple, much like a regular tent, but the Extension Charm made the inside space much larger than it appeared from the outside.
"What did Mrs. Weasley talk to you about?" Sherlock asked Silke.
Silke smiled mysteriously and shook her head.
"Not much, just some stories about your past."
Sherlock narrowed his eyes, fearing his authoritative image in her eyes might crumble, and cleared his throat.
"The past is the past, and the present is the present. People change, so they shouldn't be lumped together."
For some reason, hearing this, Silke's face lit up with an incredibly bright smile, momentarily stunning Sherlock.
She said earnestly.
"You're absolutely right. The past is the past, and the present is the present."
Sherlock and Silke had dinner with the Weasley family.
Before the meal, Mr. Weasley ran into several acquaintances from the Ministry of Magic. Two Department Heads were now standing before them: Ludo Bagman, Head of the Department of Magical Sports and Games, and Barty Crouch Sr., Head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation.
Mr. Weasley initially wanted to introduce Sherlock to these Ministry officials, but Sherlock was clearly not interested. He found an excuse to watch over Silke, preventing her from accidentally blowing up the only usable pot while helping Mrs. Weasley.
Although they didn't meet in person, Sherlock naturally recognized Barty Crouch Sr.
He was Eddie's former superior and the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement seventeen years ago.
He had been a strong contender for the position of Minister of Magic, but his son Barty Jr.'s involvement with the Death Eaters exposed him. Even though he personally apprehended his son, it did little to salvage his reputation. He ultimately lost to Fudge and was seemingly demoted to the Department of International Magical Cooperation.
Barty Crouch Sr. was a capable man, just not a particularly lucky one.
Ludo Bagman, on the other hand, was a down-to-earth official who didn't mind letting the Weasley Twins and Harry participate in the final match betting.
George and Fred had already decided on their bets, putting all their money on their chosen team.
Hermione and Ron initially had no plans to join in, but Harry suddenly had an idea, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Why don't we ask the amazing Professor Forrest?"
