Chapter 214: Enthusiastic Duelists from Another World
Chapter 214: Enthusiastic Duelists from Another World
After walking for about twenty minutes, the bunker that the demons spoke of finally came into view.
It was a structure built upon a wasteland, appearing to be made of obsidian and dark granite. Its surface was shrouded in a perpetual gloom, a heavy darkness that even sunlight struggled to penetrate.
With a thunderous rumble, the massive door lowered, kicking up a cloud of dust as it landed. Upon entering the bunker, a chill swept over them, and the air was filled with the pungent smell of sulfur and rust.
The lighting was dim, and the only sources of light in the long, narrow passageway came from torches mounted on the walls. The interior passages were intricate and labyrinthine.
Dark cells lined the sides of the passageway, each iron door tightly shut. However, from behind a few of the doors, shadowy gazes could be felt, and the echoes of unknown creatures' roars and growls reverberated from some of the cells.
As a jailer passed by one of the cells, a demon's claw reached out and waved at him.
The jailer paused, "And what do you want?"
"Nothing," came the reply.
The prisoner behind the door, seemingly another demon, grinned at the jailer.
"I just heard that there's a new arrival in the bunker today?"
"You're well-informed, aren't you?" The jailer leaned against the door and hummed.
"Yeah, I heard the patrol team got lucky and caught a lone guy. Apparently, he's a traveler from outside."
"Ha, a traveler," the demon in the cell laughed loudly.
"What bad luck for him. If he's ended up here, his journey probably ends now."
"Indeed. But you didn't just call me over to chat about that, did you?" The jailer straightened up. "I've got other things to do and can't spare the time to stand here and listen to you ramble. If the guards on duty find me slacking off and chatting with prisoners..."
"Wait!" The demon hurriedly stopped him and then grinned again, his smile taking on a sinister edge.
"Nothing much. Just... you know, the usual. Teach the newbie a little about the rules here and help him learn to behave. It's for everyone's benefit, right?"
"I know that," the jailer laughed.
With a flip of his palm, a shower of particles condensed into a green magic card in his hand. Invisible magic power emanated from the card, causing the prison cell door to unlock with a 'click'.
"The new guy looks human and a bit weak," the jailer said as he turned to leave, waving at him. "Don't go too far, just keep him alive."
"No problem, I know my limits," the demon snickered, patting his chest with his claw.
"I'll take good care of him," he added with a dark laugh.
You Xuan followed the group of demons underground and into a spacious hall.
In the center stood a massive arena.
Looming dark pillars surrounded the stage, with faint firelight flickering above, giving it the appearance of some sort of coliseum.
As soon as they entered, the escorting demons retreated outside and locked the door with a sharp click.
Of course, even if the door was forcefully broken, it would only take a single Great Opening Sword strike.
However, You Xuan continued to observe his surroundings. Turning to face the front of the hall, he noticed another group emerging from the shadows.
"Is this the new guy?"
"Heh, looks like a weakling indeed."
You Xuan narrowed his eyes and noticed that most of the beings walking towards him resembled demons.
Hmm, thought You Xuan, these are all unfamiliar monsters.
"Welcome to the bunker, the darkest place in your miserable life," the four-eyed leader sneered. "Every place has its rules, and I am the big brother here, the enforcer of those rules. Understand?"
You Xuan locked eyes with the four-eyed demon for a few seconds.
"So, you're the warden?" he asked.
"What? No, I'm saying that even inside this prison, there are rules to follow," the four-eyed brother scowled, clearly unhappy with the interruption.
"Don't you dare interrupt our big brother!" one of the lackeys immediately shouted.
"Are you looking for a fight?"
"Teach him a lesson!"
One of the lackeys immediately sought permission from the leader, who crossed his arms and nodded in agreement. The lackey eagerly stepped forward, cracking his knuckles.
"Come, little brother," the demon snarled, baring his sharp fangs. "Let me check if you're healthy."
The rest of the demons jeered and laughed.
Bang!
Suddenly, the demon flew backward like a broken kite, slamming into the wall a dozen meters away and sticking there, unable to free himself.
The laughter of the demons abruptly stopped.
Huh?
Their smiles froze as they looked at their companion stuck to the wall, then at You Xuan, who stood calmly as if he had done nothing.
Their smiles slowly transformed into looks of terror.
Although they hadn't seen what had just happened, they could all feel it.
It was the power of a monster!
The four-eyed demon at the front also dropped his casual attitude, waving his hand to signal his underlings to move behind him. Of course, they didn't need his instruction, as they were already scared out of their wits, huddling behind their leader for protection.
The four-eyed leader stepped forward and spoke in a deep voice, "A Duelist?"
You Xuan had just borrowed the power of Silent Magician for that instant. Silent Magician hadn't fully materialized but had cast a simple magic circle for defense, and the rebound force had sent the attacking demon flying.
The group of demons felt a slight magical power fluctuation but didn't see the full appearance of the monster protecting You Xuan. They could only instinctively sense that its power was not to be underestimated, at least not someone they, as mere lackeys, could afford to offend.
"Interesting," the demon leader said, his four eyes narrowing. "You are the fifth Duelist to be locked up in this bunker.
Everyone here has the opportunity to win their own turf and speak with strength."
As he spoke, he raised his left arm. The demonic arm began to transform, muscle-like tissue writhing and extending outward until five grids and a deck of cards appeared to grow directly from within his body.
"...through the way of Duelists."
The demon's lips curled up in a sinister smile.
"Well? Do you have the guts to give it a try?"
Sure enough, even in prison, it seemed that those who knew how to duel held the power.
You Xuan stared at the deck of cards that had grown from the leader's body and smiled faintly.
The Duelists from this other world were indeed very enthusiastic.
Then, to start with, he would take that deck of cards from the big brother in front of him.
"Duel!" x2
