Chapter 212: Voldemort's Diary (First Update)
Chapter 212: Voldemort's Diary (First Update)
After accompanying Hermione's family to Gringotts to exchange Galleons, the four of them headed to Diagon Alley Bookstore.
Diagon Alley Bookstore was the place Hermione had agreed to meet Ron and the others in her letter.
Since there wasn't much else to buy for second year, the main focus was on the second-year textbooks.
Actually, aside from Defense Against the Dark Arts, which often had a new teacher each year and thus different textbooks, the other subjects' textbooks didn't change much.
Jerry had already bought those textbooks earlier.
So, what he needed now were the seven Defense Against the Dark Arts books by Gilderoy Lockhart.
Although Lockhart was a fraud, the content in his books, if one disregarded the many boastful descriptions, was still quite useful.
Those stories were based on the firsthand experiences of old witches.
They were just a bit expensive, but after buying four house-elves, Jerry still had a few thousand Galleons left, so he wasn't short on the money for books.
"Gilderoy Lockhart
Autograph Sale of Autobiography
'Me, Myself, and Magic'
Today: 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM"
As soon as they reached the entrance of Diagon Alley Bookstore, Jerry saw the prominent banner.
"I really hope Mr. Lockhart is being framed!"
Hermione sighed when she saw the banner.
"I doubt that!"
Jerry knew that if the Ministry of Magic investigated based on the content of the book, they would quickly confirm Lockhart's guilt.
Obliviate wasn't completely unbreakable; strong external stimuli and the intervention of a master skilled in Obliviate could reverse its effects.
And the Ministry of Magic certainly had no shortage of such masters.
Moreover, the book contained many detailed accounts. If the investigation was thorough, even if the witches who had been subjected to Obliviate couldn't recover their memories, there would still be enough evidence to prove Lockhart's guilt.
So, from the moment Lockhart was taken to the Ministry of Magic for questioning, his fate was sealed.
Perhaps Azkaban would be his final destination.
It was just a matter of who would take over as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts after Lockhart's sudden incarceration.
Would Snape continue to substitute? Or would they find a new teacher? If Snape substituted, who would teach Potions? And could they find a new teacher in time?
Of course, these weren't his concerns. Dumbledore would find a way to solve these problems.
"Harry and Ron haven't arrived yet?"
Hermione looked down the street.
Jerry and Hermione had already bought all the books, but they still hadn't seen Harry and Ron.
"They might have been delayed. Let's go buy the other supplies first!"
If he remembered correctly, the Weasleys always forgot something when they went out, so it was hard for them to leave on time. And Harry, using Floo Powder for the first time, would likely have some difficulties.
"Let's buy some ink and parchment first!"
Hermione suggested.
Ink and parchment were consumables that needed to be replenished each term.
Jerry nodded.
"Hermione, your father and I are tired, and we don't really understand the things you need to buy. We'll wait here in the bookstore. You and Jerry can go shopping!"
Mrs. Granger tugged at her husband and smiled at Hermione.
"Alright, we'll come back once we've bought everything!"
Hermione took Jerry's hand, waved to her family, and ran off.
Thus, the two of them strolled along the winding cobblestone streets of Diagon Alley.
On the way to buy ink and quills, Jerry first bought two packs of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans.
Whether it was due to his physical condition or spending more time with Hermione and other peers, Jerry felt that his mindset had become much younger.
The two of them ate ice cream, wandered around Diagon Alley, and bought supplies for the next term, losing track of time until it was almost noon.
"Harry and the others should have arrived by now!"
Jerry checked the time; he and Hermione had been wandering for almost two hours. Harry and the Weasleys, even if they were slow, should have arrived by now.
"Oh, right! Then let's head back to the Diagon Alley Bookstore!"
Hermione suddenly remembered. If not for Jerry's reminder, she would have completely forgotten about Harry and Ron.
Spending time with Jerry was so comfortable. No matter what she said, Jerry always had a response, and no matter what she wanted to do, Jerry seemed to know.
Moreover, when discussing magic-related topics, Jerry's insights often gave her a sense of sudden realization, making her understand magic in a whole new way.
While shopping and chatting, she hadn't even noticed the time passing.
Carrying their purchases, Jerry and Hermione started heading back towards the Diagon Alley Bookstore.
"What's going on here?"
When they arrived at the Diagon Alley Bookstore, Jerry and Hermione indeed saw Harry and the Weasleys, along with Hagrid. However, the bookstore seemed to have some issues.
The bookshelves were askew, and books were scattered all over the floor. It looked more like an accident scene than a bookstore.
Additionally, Ron's father, Arthur Weasley, had a slightly swollen eye.
"Jerry! Hermione!"
Seeing Jerry and Hermione, Harry and Ron looked surprised and pleased, immediately running over.
After an explanation from the two, Jerry understood that Harry had mistakenly said "Knockturn Alley" instead of "Diagon Alley" when using Floo powder, causing them to arrive late.
As for the bookstore's current state, it was due to a fight between Arthur Weasley and Lucius Malfoy.
"A fight, that's quite unexpected!"
Jerry didn't recall Arthur and Lucius fighting in the movies from his previous life. However, seeing two powerful wizards engage in a physical altercation in a bookstore was indeed quite thrilling!
"Did you see the punch my dad landed? It was amazing! He made Lucius's nose bleed!"
Ron said excitedly.
"Right, let me introduce you to my family!"
At that moment, the Granger family also approached Hermione, and everyone introduced themselves.
Arthur, being the most interested in Muggles, couldn't stop asking questions about the Muggle world, even while his wife, Mrs. Weasley, tried to heal his eye with a healing spell.
"This is my sister, Ginny, a first-year student this year!"
Ron introduced his sister Ginny to Jerry and Hermione.
"Hello, Ginny!"
Jerry and Hermione greeted Ginny simultaneously.
However, Jerry's attention wasn't on the cute little girl but on the cauldron in her hand.
If everything was going as planned, one of Voldemort's Horcruxes, the diary containing Voldemort's youthful soul, should have been secretly placed in Ginny's cauldron by Lucius.
"I need to find a way to get it."
Jerry's eyes showed a thoughtful expression.
