Chapter 212: Please Put on Your Clothes Before Reciting Poetry
Chapter 212: Please Put on Your Clothes Before Reciting Poetry
The Navy base in Tada Town occupied a corner of the settlement. Its towering architecture mirrored Tada Kingdom's style, clearly repurposed from local buildings. The pale green paint of the Branch was unmistakable, as were the Navy flags fluttering above.
Kuro entered the base with his companions under Lieutenant's lead. However, this Branch felt unusually deserted. Only a handful of Navy personnel wandered its corridors, their footsteps echoing in the emptiness.
"Where's your base commander?" Kuro asked.
The Lieutenant glanced skyward with a shrug. "At this hour, he should be emerging soon."
As if on cue, the top-floor window swung open. A man with a beard as wild as Kas's emerged, inhaling deeply with theatrical flair before launching into a dramatic recitation:
"No matter how dark the world may be, as long as people yearn for light, they will ignite torches. Oh divine one, thank you for granting victory, for each war's end brings humanity one step closer to dawn."
"Today again shines beautiful! Thirty-seven years have graced my journey, youth's bloom now behind me, yet my heart's springtime never fades. Greetings, world!"
His poetic delivery dripped with pathos, though his lack of attire created... complications.
Lida's forehead vein pulsed violently as she pointed upward. "Hey! Put on some clothes!"
He wore only briefs.
"Ah?" The bearded man peered down, noticing Kuro's group.
"Unfamiliar faces? Guests! Welcome! I'm Base Commander Hugo of this fine establishment. But young lady, I beg to differ - I am clothed! You simply lack perception. Can't you see?"
"Ah?!" Lida blinked, staring harder.
The middle-aged man leaned halfway out the window, a forest of chest hair crowned by a belly wobbling like a waterbed.
Where exactly was this "clothing"?
Hugo gestured to the sun. "Behold! This radiant sunlight - woven by heaven itself to clothe my noble form!"
Click.
Lida produced a flintlock pistol from nowhere, aiming steadily. "May I kill you now?"
"Such youthful impatience!" Hugo sighed dramatically. "A fellow Navy officer pointing firearms at me? What if you injure me? Or worse - what if you hit innocent flowers? Each blade of grass follows growth's sacred laws. To harm them is to trample innocent life!"
"Commander Hugo", Lieutenant interjected, "these are Headquarters comrades. They responded to our distress call and captured a pirate."
"Distress call? This place hasn't seen a pirate shadow in - wait! They captured a pirate?!" His eyes locked onto Absolon's shackled form below.
Like a fleshy boulder, Hugo launched from the window, landing with a meaty thud that sent ripples through his ample frame. In a blur, he materialized before Absolon.
"A pirate! A real pirate! A living, breathing pirate!" His hands roamed Absolon's body like a man possessed. "Ah! This stench! The unmistakable aroma of piracy!"
"Commander Hugo, control yourself!"
Lieutenant tried blocking him.
"Fool! Don't you see? A living pirate! One who actually reached our town!" Hugo shoved past, groping Absolon's face, neck, and chest with growing fervor. His expression resembled a pervert savoring a feast.
"Stop! Don't touch me! I'm too old for this!" Absolon wailed.
"Divine one!" Hugo cried to the heavens. "You've answered my prayers at last!"
Kuro's eye twitched as Hugo began chanting. This lunatic had officially crossed into 'hentai' territory.
"Life", Kuro interrupted, snatching Lida's pistol. He pressed it to Hugo's skull, a dark line twitching at his temple. "Listen to human words for once!"
"Apologies, apologies!" Hugo turned with a sheepish grin. "It's been ages since I've seen a living pirate. Forgive my excitement. Embracing life's little surprises isn't shameful. Now, might I keep this pirate?"
"Whatever. Just put on clothes." Kuro growled.
"Pirate", Hugo whispered reverently.
Kaboom!
Kuro fired into the air.
"Right, right! Forgive my absence!" Hugo straightened abruptly, marching toward the base with surprising dignity.
Kuro pinched the bridge of his nose. Wherever they went, these madmen multiplied.
Soon, Lieutenant emerged. "Commander Hugo invites you inside."
"Take Absolon away. Check his records and Sipatia's too. You know the strange girl who spoke with you earlier?"
Handing back the pistol - bought from Morgant, but abandoned to Lida's hobby when his interest waned - Kuro led Lida and Klah into the base.
Tada's Gothic-styled architecture never felt cheerful. Though renovations added light, the gloom remained, magnified by the eerie emptiness. Hugo's office occupied the top floor, reached through endless stairs.
Now properly dressed in Navy uniform embroidered with irises, Hugo looked more poet than officer. If not for his earlier antics, Kuro might've bought the facade. Now? He saw only 'hentai.'
"Please sit." Hugo gestured gracefully. "Forgive my earlier impropriety. I've simply never seen a pirate."
"Never?" Klah frowned. "Aren't you the commander who defeated a pirate armada?"
Hugo's face fell. "That victory? Entirely Gurgas' doing. I didn't even glimpse the battle. Two years stationed here, and I've never met a pirate - not even a common thief."
