Chapter 211: The Battle Within Tall Tower
Swish—
A rift tore through space within Polar Night Tower. With pinpoint accuracy, the tear spat out its contents directly into the so-called Hall of Death.
Lanpu stared at the lingering Toxic Death Mist swirling through the corridor, its deadly haze hanging thick and motionless. Already prepared, he grinned widely, the Miniature Skull Pendant at his chest flaring with a soft Spell Light.
It was only a 2nd-Level Spell, but perfectly suited—
[Dispelling Mist]
—capable of rapidly clearing away natural or magical fogs within the area.
A gentle breeze swept through. Instantly, the lethal cloud dissipated, and Lanpu’s vision cleared.
At the far end of the passage, the Heavy Iron Cage slowly creaked open. Hundreds of Monsters, their claws digging into the cold bars, shook the gate with frenzied anticipation, eager to be unleashed upon the plump, defenseless prey nearby.
But Lanpu merely lifted his Staff, and a dull, yellowish Aura pulsed from the stone beneath his feet.
[Stone Wall Spell]
With a deep, rumbling groan, the ground trembled. A massive wall of solid rock shot upward, sealing off the passage entirely—trapping the Frenzied Dragonized Monsters on the far side.
Undeterred, the beasts surged forward, piling against the wall, trying to use their comrades as stepping stones to scale it, relying on sheer numbers to breach the barrier.
But Lanpu wasn’t about to give them that chance. He raised his Staff once more.
[Grease Spell]
Thick, sticky oil erupted across the floor, drenching the monsters’ bodies and stripping away all friction. Those standing atop others’ backs slipped instantly, tumbling in chaotic heaps. The entire mass of creatures collapsed in a writhing, squirming pile at the base of the stone wall.
Yet the battle was far from over.
A feral grin split across Lanpu’s meaty face.
“Pathetic beasts without reason,” he sneered. “You think you can eat me?”
His Staff flared with a searing Fire Aura, unleashing raw, overwhelming Elemental Power.
This was a 4th-Level Spell—
[Wall of Fire]
A towering inferno erupted, merging seamlessly with the stone barrier. Flames roared like a living tongue, consuming the hundreds of Dragonized Monsters in a single, merciless breath.
“Roar—!”
The creatures burst into flames. Their oily, reptilian hides acted as fuel, intensifying the blaze. Even those who tried to flee the fire were doomed—burning fiercely, their bodies crackling and sizzling, their throats emitting agonized, shrill wails as they writhed in the inferno.
Lanpu waited until the flames had done their work. Then, with a casual flick of his hand, he ended the spell.
The stone wall sank back into the ground. The passage now lay littered with charred, blackened corpses.
Lanpu inhaled deeply, savoring the rich, savory scent of Roasted Meat drifting through the air. His eyes gleamed with hunger. He licked his lips, a drool trickling down his chin.
But after years of power and position, the Cannibal Magician managed to suppress his primal urge.
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, growling, “Damned. If it weren’t for Master’s mission, not a single corpse would’ve remained.”
He muttered under his breath as he strode past, “So much Food… a real shame.”
Before him stood a massive Metal Door, sealed by a shimmering [Arcane Lock]—a black, glowing membrane enfolding it entirely.
Yet Lanpu was far from unprepared. With calm confidence, he tapped the door lightly with his Staff.
[Knock]
A soft crack echoed through the corridor. The barrier shattered into countless fragments, dissolving into nothing.
The Metal Door groaned open—then slammed wide.
Lanpu stepped through.
At that very moment, the floating [Heaven's Judgment Dragon Eye] beside him flickered, revealing a blurred image.
A man cloaked in Black Robes emerged from within—walking steadily toward Lanpu.
This was the vision the Dragon Eye had foreseen—the future.
“Finally,” Lanpu murmured, his face twisted with anticipation. “The so-called Dragon-Frenzied Black Wizard.”
His meaty features lit up with eager excitement. His grip on the Staff tightened, palms slick with sweat—ready to unleash his spells at a moment’s notice.
Sure enough, a jagged, black claw tore open the air before him. A spatial rift split the atmosphere.
From it stepped Wagner, draped in a dark Cloak, his presence like a storm.
“You’re different from the pests that came before,” Wagner rasped, his voice echoing like a ghost through the corridor. “You’re strong. And unlike them… you don’t carry that strange, unstable aura.”
He lifted his head, eyes locking onto Lanpu. Slowly, a chilling smile spread across his face.
“You’ll make an excellent Experiment specimen, won’t you?”
Lanpu wasn’t some fragile human. He’d devoured men for years, and his experiments on enemies were countless. As a Cannibal Magician in human form, he felt no fear—only a twisted respect.
He laughed.
“Hah. Let’s see if you’ve got the guts to back up that talk. Your head looks like a fine Resource—”
Wagner remained unmoved, his gaze unwavering. His eyes slowly darkened, hollowed out—becoming a tunnel of teeth, a black corridor leading into nothingness.
[Soul-Stealing Gaze]
The attack was instant—unnatural, soul-draining.
But Lanpu had prepared.
Before the gaze could take hold, he conjured a shimmering, mirror-like plane of light before his eyes. It moved with his vision, unobstructed, yet impenetrable.
A 2nd-Level Spell, specifically designed to deflect such psychic assaults—
[Veil of Gaze]
The Soul-Stealing Gaze struck the mirror—and rebounded, slamming back into Wagner himself.
The black energy, reflected, struck his Aura Barrier, momentarily disrupting it. Wagner flinched—his body stiffening for a split second.
Even a 6th Circle Spell wasn’t immune to the backlash of its own power.
And that was all Lanpu needed.
With a snarl, he swung his Staff with full force.
Eyes blazing like flames, he unleashed a barrage of Fireballs—searing, explosive orbs of pure fire—flying toward Wagner in rapid succession.
Lanpu knew Wagner had [Trigger Spell] and [Otheluk Elastic Spell Ball]—essentially giving him a second life. But that was exactly the point. He wanted to force Wagner to use that Respawn Armor. At the very least, it would weaken him—creating a perfect opening for Kai Xiusu’s next move.
Yet Wagner recovered in an instant. His eyes cleared. A faint, invisible Force Field shimmered into existence around him—enveloping a half-meter radius.
The incoming Fireballs struck the barrier and vanished—snuffed out before they even touched his body.
—[Anti-Magic Field].
Lanpu sneered.
“Full of armor, huh? You’re not a Madman... just a coward.”
He raised his Staff again, summoning another blazing Fireball.
After decades of training, his [Fireball Spell] had become a master-level technique. Combined with the Red Dragon Bloodline’s elemental affinity, its power now rivaled that of 5th-level Evocation Spells.
Wagner, however, was no novice. His expression shifted—amused, almost pitying.
“Ah… I see. You’re not one of them. But you’re still hiding behind someone else’s shadow, aren’t you?”
He smirked.
“Delusional little Home, thinking you’ve seen just the tip of the iceberg… and now you dare to stand against me?”
