Chapter 211: No Need to Remember, Your Wounds Will Remind You
Chapter 211: No Need to Remember, Your Wounds Will Remind You
"Two thousand Galleons shouldn't be forgotten." Ivan looked at Lockhart, who was still in a state of shock, and found it unnecessary to intimidate him further. He used the Sectumsempra spell to cut open the door lock.
"Also, I have no interest in exposing your identity, but I hope this doesn't happen again."
Ivan opened the door, gave Lockhart one last look, and left, leaving behind a lingering echo in the messy office.
"You don't need to remember; the wound on your face will remind you."
After Ivan left, Lockhart couldn't hold himself up and plopped down on the floor. Only then did he feel a tingling sensation on his face.
Lockhart touched his face and found his hand stained with blood.
He glanced at the shattered mirror, seeing a fragmented reflection of himself with a shallow cut on his face.
Meanwhile, in the corridor, Ivan was reflecting on his actions.
The three magical items he had made for Lockhart nearly got him into trouble.
Ivan had no choice but to use the six-hour reinforcement Rune, enhancing the Sectumsempra spell to subdue Lockhart, to prevent the man from persistently causing him trouble.
"Looks like I need to find time to learn the Obliviate spell", Ivan sighed.
Both the incident in Hermione's dorm and the conflict with Lockhart could have been avoided if he knew the Obliviate spell. He could have simply erased their memories for a while.
However, he had far too much to do recently and hadn't found the time to learn it.
Since Lockhart was an expert in the Obliviate spell, Ivan decided to learn it from him when Lockhart brought the two thousand Galleons.
He wondered how Lockhart would explain the mess in his office. The damage caused by the Sectumsempra spell wasn't easy to repair.
However, it took only a day for Ivan to realize that such a minor issue was no match for the smooth-talking Lockhart.
A rumor suddenly spread through Hogwarts:
Their Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Lockhart, had been researching a powerful destructive spell in his office yesterday. During the experiment, he accidentally cut a table in half.
Ron, eating breakfast in the Great Hall, almost sprayed his juice on Harry when he heard the news, unable to resist commenting.
"Lockhart is at it again, exaggerating. I bet he thinks if he makes up a story like this, we'll keep paying attention to him."
Before Ron could finish, Hermione interrupted.
"No, this is probably true. I saw it with my own eyes when Professor Lockhart had Filch remove the table. It was cut in half, and the cut was as smooth as a mirror. Even the picture frames and wooden carvings were sliced. It must have been a very powerful spell."
Hermione chattered on, making Ron and Harry roll their eyes.
"Do you still believe that liar Lockhart? If he was as skilled as he claims, he wouldn't have fainted at the Quidditch match", Ron shook his head and retorted.
"I never said Lockhart isn't a liar", Hermione glared at him and continued. "I'm just telling you what I saw. I'm not lying to you."
"It’s possible that Lockhart used some trick to fool you, like using a saw to cut these things and pretending it was caused by magic", Harry speculated.
"Right! Everyone knows that Lockhart is only a bit better than a Squib. If he knew any magic, why wouldn’t he just use a Reparo spell to fix these things?" Ron chimed in, speaking confidently.
Ivan saw that the three of them were arguing about this topic and couldn’t help but shake his head, choosing not to join their discussion.
He couldn’t exactly tell them that it was actually he who had used the Sectumsempra spell to cut those things, could he?
Ivan was somewhat curious about whether Snape would deduce something from this news and go to confront Lockhart, demanding to know how he had learned his magic.
Hermione’s attitude towards Lockhart also surprised Ivan.
He remembered that Hermione was once a die-hard fan of Lockhart, and now she was openly calling him a fraud.
It seemed that Lockhart’s reputation at school was completely ruined, which explained why he was willing to pay a high price for the magical items Ivan had made.
After breakfast, the group noisily went together to their Charms class for the day.
In the afternoon, Ivan went to the library as usual to look up information about the Runes, and Hermione went with him.
"Ivan, are you looking for something specific recently?" Hermione asked curiously, having noticed that Ivan seemed a bit distracted lately, often searching for something in the library.
"Have you seen these Runes before?" Ivan thought for a moment, deciding that Hermione might be able to help him, and wrote a few of the Runes on a piece of paper.
Hermione took the paper, looked at it for a moment, and then thought hard.
"What do you think? Any leads?" Ivan asked.
"No, I don’t recognize these. They might be some kind of Rune or symbol", Hermione said, sticking out her tongue, a bit embarrassed.
Ivan was a bit disappointed but didn’t dwell on it. After all, if he hadn’t found any clues after searching for so long, it was normal that Hermione wouldn’t know either.
Taking advantage of the afternoon break, Hermione offered to help look for clues about the Runes. Ivan went to the bookshelf and picked up a copy of "Puzzles of Symbols", writing the remaining Runes on a piece of paper and comparing them one by one.
He wondered if the shapes of these Runes might represent something, like a location.
However, he couldn’t find anything similar in the entire book of "Puzzles of Symbols."
Sighing, Ivan put the book back on the shelf and was about to leave with the paper in hand when he turned a corner and bumped into a young witch.
Ivan took a few steps back, unharmed, but the other person, dazed, bumped into a bookshelf, and the book she was holding fell to the ground.
"Sorry, are you okay? Luna?" Ivan said apologetically, then paused for a moment, recognizing the figure in front of him as Luna, whom he hadn’t seen in a long time.
The oddly dressed young witch shook her head gently, her silvery-gray eyes staring at Ivan for a long time, then made some shapes with her hands, nodding to herself.
Ivan was completely confused and had no idea what she was doing. He bent down to pick up the book that Luna had dropped.
As he was about to return it, Ivan noticed that it was a book related to Transfiguration, and the page it was opened to described an Animagus.
