Chapter 211: Important Speculation
Chapter 211: Important Speculation
"Lindsey, what do you think these 'Blind Ones' are like?"
"A species that lives underground, and due to living in perpetual darkness, their eyes have degenerated and disappeared."
"Even if they live underground, wouldn't their eyes still function?"
"Use it or lose it. Over a long period, it's a normal occurrence."
After leaving the Three Pillar Lake, Lindsey and Hong continued on their journey.
They ate the lizard meat they had grilled in the morning while discussing the information they had obtained from the mole.
According to the local species of the Thousand Mountain Stone Forest, many years ago, the Blind Ones and the Lizard Dragon Clan went to war, causing large-scale destruction to the underground world, which led to the collapse of the ground above.
Lindsey recalled something very important:
"Hong, do you remember the story I told you?"
"The beast guarding you was a fifth-stage beast called the Black Scaled Lizard Dragon."
Hong's attention indeed shifted from the Blind Ones to the Lizard Dragons.
Regarding the existence that was guarding her, she had a rather complex anticipation:
"Lindsey, I remember you said that thing was very strong?"
Lindsey nodded in agreement:
"Extremely formidable."
As his daily training partner, Hong knew that Lindsey's strength had been increasing:
"What if it were you now?"
"If I encountered it now..." Lindsey thought carefully, "With the abilities of that Lizard Dragon, it would still be very dangerous."
Lindsey wasn't being modest or joking.
He could indeed easily deal with some ordinary fifth-stage beasts.
But the Black Scaled Lizard Dragon was an exception.
That beast was all-around powerful, with formidable physical strength. Lindsey might now be able to fight it head-on without relying on tactics or traps, but he couldn't guarantee a 100% victory.
Hong nodded thoughtfully:
"The Dragon Beast's loyal follower is indeed very strong."
Lindsey continued, following the topic:
"That's right. The Black Scaled Lizard Dragon is a die-hard follower of the Dragon Beast, and the race that went to war with the Blind Ones, causing the land to collapse, is called the Lizard Dragon."
Hong's expression turned serious:
"Do you think this race has a connection with the Dragon Beast?"
Lindsey neither confirmed nor denied it:
"At the very least, the Black Eagle King, before his death, explicitly stated that the Dragon Beast originated from the Thousand Mountain Stone Forest."
A smile appeared on the girl's face:
"Interesting!"
"Are we going to its homeland?"
Lindsey affirmed:
"Perhaps that's exactly what we're doing."
At this point, Lindsey had been pondering a question for the past few months. After the incident at the Three Pillar Lake, he finally had a vague idea:
"Hong, have you ever thought about something?"
Hong sensed Lindsey's seriousness: "What is it?"
Lindsey spoke solemnly:
"Those three pillars at the lake that enhance strength, do you think the Dragon Beast would ignore their existence?"
Hong thought for a moment and came to a conclusion:
"Perhaps it's not certain of the specific situation, but it should at least be aware of them."
"But the fact is that the Dragon Beast showed no reaction at all," Lindsey agreed, and then asked, "So, do you think the Tree Mother is important to the Dragon Beast?"
A powerful six-stage existence, so important that it even sent a messenger to guard it.
Hong nodded without hesitation:
"I'm not blind; it obviously values the Tree Mother greatly."
Lindsey's expression grew even more serious:
"Do you remember the swamp where you were imprisoned and everything that happened when we left that place?"
Hong's interest was piqued, knowing that the story was connected to her.
Hong crossed her arms, slowing down to walk alongside Lindsey. She realized the focus of their conversation—herself.
"Lindsey, what do you mean?"
Lindsey spoke frankly, "The stone pillars that can enhance one's strength, the Dragon Beast doesn't interfere with them. Even when the Sixth Stage magical beasts that submit to it or its trusted minions die, it shows no reaction. Yet, when I killed the Black-Scaled Lizard Dragon and rescued you, the Dragon Beast flew into a rage and even caused a minor earthquake."
"If we have to find a difference..."
Lindsey directly pointed at the girl in front of him, "Then it could only be you."
Hong's eyes widened in surprise.
"Huh? Me?"
The girl's expression was one of disbelief, and her eyes even held a hint of self-mockery. "A prisoner without freedom, a loser who has lost all her abilities and memories, is more concerning and anger-inducing to the Dragon Beast than those things?"
Lindsey ignored Hong's self-mockery and continued to point out the doubts in his mind. "Hong, don't focus solely on failure."
"Think about it from another perspective."
"After the Black-Scaled Lizard Dragon died, the Dragon Beast could have easily concentrated its attacks with its power. But in reality, it only caused an earthquake."
"Even a Sixth Stage Tree Mother could cause a landslide."
"If it were the Seventh Stage Dragon Beast, connected to the world, a brief earthquake would definitely not be the limit of its power!"
Hong couldn't refute Lindsey's analysis and began to reflect on herself.
Lindsey continued, "So, I believe that the minor earthquake that occurred in the swamp wasn't just the Dragon Beast venting its anger."
"Its true intention was to alter the structure of the underground cavity beneath the swamp, causing the emerging rocks to bury everything. At the same time, it wanted to bury you deep beneath the ground, never to see the light of day again!"
"..."
Hong had never thought about this aspect before.
So, when Lindsey proposed this hypothesis, her first reaction was disbelief.
"How is that possible? I'm just..."
Lindsey shook his head, interrupting Hong's rebuttal. "Hong, I'm not saying this is the absolute truth. It's just a guess for now."
"After all, if we're being strict, the Three Pillar Lake might not necessarily attract the Dragon Beast's attention. Only by obtaining more reference points can we confirm the correctness of this hypothesis."
Hong shrugged.
She immediately understood what Lindsey meant.
More reference points would definitely refer to targets that could attract the Dragon Beast's attention.
What else could it be?
It must be this underground world ahead, which might be the Dragon Beast's homeland! If it held the secret to its strength, it would undoubtedly be under strict surveillance.
"Hmm?"
At this moment, Lindsey's eyebrows twitched.
He habitually zoomed out the map while traveling, scouting the road ahead, and he noticed a sudden drop in elevation.
"Hong, we're almost there."
Lindsey called out, quickening his pace with the girl by his side.
After half an hour of walking along a rugged mountain path, a cold and hot western wind blew from behind them. The scene before them suddenly changed.
It was a sunken land, covered with countless cracks and countless fallen stone pillars. Occasionally, gusts of wind blew sand, covering the entire world in a gray haze, and the dry air made their throats parched.
A considerable amount of time had passed since the war.
When Lindsey and Hong arrived, the almost lifeless land still couldn't hide the devastation it had endured during the disaster.
