Chapter 210: You Plan to Use What I Gave You Against Me?
Chapter 210: You Plan to Use What I Gave You Against Me?
"I must say, the gadgets you made exceeded my expectations. They actually managed to resist my Obliviate. You should know that even some adult wizards' Armor Charms can't achieve this." Lockhart said with great admiration.
He had originally thought that Ivan would be like other wizards, having his memory erased without any defense.
But he didn't expect Ivan to detect and resist his attack in advance, even casting a spell to reflect his Obliviate. This was something Lockhart had not anticipated.
Fortunately, the Cloak of Protection he had purchased at great expense proved to be more useful than he imagined, blocking the reflected Obliviate.
This not only surprised Lockhart, but also made him realize that he was no longer the powerless fraud he used to be.
"So, you plan to use what I gave you against me?" Ivan asked.
"I bet you never thought this day would come when you were making those things, right?"
Lockhart looked quite smug, but his expression suddenly changed when he saw Ivan's calm face. He took two steps back with a forced smile and asked tentatively.
"Could it be that you left a backdoor?"
"I would never do such a thing", Ivan shook his head. His Alchemy skills were not yet advanced enough to leave hidden backdoors without being detected.
Just as Lockhart was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he heard Ivan continue.
"But you must be wondering why I didn't make a full set of magical items for myself, right?"
"Isn't it because you're short on money?" Lockhart said curiously.
"Of course not!" Ivan's face darkened, his expression turning grim as he raised his wand and continued.
"Now, let me teach you a lesson. In the magical world, true power doesn't come from relying on cheap tricks. I remember you said the soundproofing here is good."
Lockhart raised an eyebrow, not quite understanding what Ivan meant.
"Sectumsempra!" Ivan whispered, casting the enhanced version of the Sectumsempra spell with a magical rune.
Several invisible and silent waves of magic cut through the air, emitting eerie sounds.
The moment Ivan's wand tip lit up, Lockhart's face changed drastically, his hair standing on end.
He vaguely remembered a dark wizard he had encountered in the Romanian forest, whose powerful destructive spells had nearly killed him.
But even that spell hadn't been as threatening as this one!
"Protego!" Lockhart realized he couldn't dodge and gritted his teeth, casting the Protego spell.
The magic surged out of control, forming a large deep blue fireball that hurtled forward.
Lockhart had never been grateful for losing control of his magic before, but this time was an exception!
It meant he had a chance to survive.
However, just as Lockhart watched with hopeful eyes.
The deep blue fireball he had pinned his hopes on was almost instantly cut in half and then further sliced into smaller pieces by an invisible force, vanishing completely.
Lockhart's face froze, turning to one of sheer terror. He couldn't see what Ivan had done; there was nothing in front of him!
But that was precisely what made the fear spread through his body like a vine.
Too fast.
Lockhart felt death approaching, and at this critical moment, he activated the effect of his Cloak of Protection.
A magical barrier rose around Lockhart once again,
and with it came a slight sense of security. But all of this was shattered in the next instant.
The sturdy magical barrier, which had seemed impenetrable, was easily sliced through by an invisible blade.
A buzzing sound filled Lockhart's ears, and he felt something cut across his cheek.
Just as Lockhart felt despair, the sense of impending death suddenly vanished, leaving him dazed.
In the next second, the table behind him was cut in half along its center and fell to the ground with a dull thud. The mirror behind it was covered in cracks, and the petrified wooden statue had its head cleanly sliced off.
Even the photos on the wall were not spared; the Lockharts in the photos had long since fled to other places, leaving only empty, severed frames.
Lockhart turned his head to look at this scene, sucking in a sharp breath.
"I—" Lockhart turned to look at Ivan, dropping his wand without any dignity, and opened his mouth to say something, but Ivan's voice cut in again.
"Dangle Charm!"
The damaged Cloak of Protection failed to protect Lockhart this time, causing his body to flip uncontrollably. He mistakenly thought Ivan was about to attack him and immediately panicked, shouting.
"Stop, stop! You can't kill me! I'm a recipient of the Order of Merlin, Third Class, an honorary member of the Dark Arts Defense League, and a five-time winner of the Most Charming Smile award, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor!"
Lockhart rambled incoherently, even repeating his usual introduction.
"No, you're just a fraud who uses the Obliviate spell", Ivan squatted down, pointing his wand at Lockhart's nose.
"I'll give you five hundred, no, a thousand Galleons!" Seeing the blinding light emanating from Ivan's wand, Lockhart shouted.
"Two thousand!" Ivan countered.
"Deal!" Lockhart nodded without hesitation.
Ivan was frustrated, realizing he had underestimated Lockhart's wealth once again.
However, two thousand Galleons, in Ivan's estimation, should have reached Lockhart's limit. He was concerned that if he asked for more, Lockhart might regret it later and cause trouble.
After all, this was Hogwarts, Dumbledore's domain.
Ivan knew he could expose Lockhart's fraudulent identity and beat him up, but he couldn't kill him at will.
Ivan waved his wand, dispelling the magic and releasing Lockhart.
Lockhart shakily got up from the ground, instinctively reaching for his wand.
But before his hand touched it, he feared Ivan's misunderstanding and quickly drew back, raising his hands high to show he was harmless, his face still showing traces of fear and aftershock.
The powerful Sectumsempra spell had completely shattered Lockhart's unrealistic notions.
Only now did Lockhart understand what Ivan meant.
This young wizard in front of him, though small in stature, was warning him that even with his seemingly powerful magical items, he posed no threat.
If Ivan had the will, a simple wave of his wand could destroy everything Lockhart relied on.
