Chapter 210: What Does It Mean to Reign Supreme in the Heavens?
Chapter 210: What Does It Mean to Reign Supreme in the Heavens?
"I originally thought you were just a girl with a few screws loose."
Kuro exhaled a plume of smoke and said, "But now it seems you're not. Care to explain what will happen during the night, and what this 'Sixth Level Prisoner' business is all about?"
"How is that possible?"
Absolon's voice brimmed with disbelief. "How could you possibly break free from my Hallucination influence so quickly?"
"Aha, I knew it."
Kuro narrowed his eyes. "So it's an ability."
"Yohohoho! Even this gloomy guy's power has its day of being cracked!" Sipatia laughed, turning to Kuro. "Officer Kuro, if you hadn't shown up tonight, you'd have been part of the fun yourself. What a shame you won't live to see the night's spectacle."
"Enough chatter, Sipatia", Absolon said coldly, narrowing his eyes. "Take him down."
Kuro bit down on his cigar. His figure suddenly vanished.
Whoosh.
Sipatia's hair fluttered as she heard a sharp slicing sound behind her.
Hiss!
Sipatia's eyes widened in shock. She turned just in time to see the Navy officer's Black Blade cleave Absolon from shoulder to waist, nearly splitting him in two.
Blood sprayed as Absolon collapsed into a crimson pool, his face frozen in terror.
"You think I'm stupid enough to let you use that ability again?" Kuro flicked blood from Autumn Water with a disdainful smirk, then turned to Sipatia, whose face glistened with sweat. "Now care to explain?"
Sipatia's body tensed like a coiled spring, but her playful smile remained. "What an impressive guy you are. But catching me won't be so easy."
"Aren't you supposed to be a pirate? You're making this harder than expected", Kuro muttered, as smoke curled from behind Sipatia's back. His hand pressed firmly against her neck.
Appearing behind her, Kuro said casually, "You're coming with me either way."
He tightened his grip, preparing to knock her unconscious. But Sipatia's lips curved into a sly grin.
"Yohohoho! Want to check again? Would be a shame if you grabbed the wrong girl."
Before she finished speaking, Kuro's hand clenched – and Sipatia crumpled.
Shaking his head, Kuro reached to haul her away, but suddenly froze. The feel of her body felt...off. Unnaturally insubstantial.
His instincts flared just as cold dread prickled his spine.
Kuro's eyes narrowed. The twin blades Sakujū and Kigō shot from his waist, flying behind him.
Clang!
Despite empty air, shockwaves rippled through the alley.
Kuro's now-deep crimson eyes activated Observation Haki!
Suddenly, ripples distorted the scene. The fallen woman and Absolon's bloodied form dissolved like mist.
No figures. No bloodstains.
Instead, beyond the crossed blades stood Sipatia, dagger pressed against Kuro's short sword, and beside her – Absolon, fully intact with no trace of injury.
Seeing Kuro's gaze, Sipatia sheathed her dagger and leapt backward twice. "Yohohoho! Quick reflexes! Guess you won't be so easy to handle after all."
Kuro's grip tightened on Autumn Water. "No wonder my strike felt hollow earlier. You made me slash empty air. Does your ability block my Haki?"
He fixed his glare on Absolon, still incredulous. He'd maintained Observation Haki the entire time, yet still fallen victim.
This time he'd been cautious, yet his danger-sensing Haki only reacted at the last moment.
A faint smile touched Absolon's lips. "Observation Haki sharpens senses. But I've eaten the Cacophony Devil Fruit, the 'Muddled Human,' which induces hallucinations."
"Sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch – every sense I can warp. So tell me, when did you truly believe you'd struck me?"
Kuro exhaled smoke. "A Sixth Level Prisoner indeed. Not bad."
Absolon's voice grew cold. "Have these young ones forgotten my name? Pity you won't live to ask your seniors about my legend. I, Absolon, Phantasm Devil – fought Admiral Sengoku himself."
At Sengoku's name, his face twisted with hatred.
"Grand Line will soon tremble with my return! Sengoku, I'll make that man pay!"
Kuro extended his hand, pressing against the alley wall. "Actually, it's 'Fleet Admiral Sengoku.' Seems another old-timer escaped confinement. Why not stay retired? Your officer never teach you that causing trouble is rude?"
"Kid, you're only talking big now", Absolon sneered. "How long can you maintain your Observation Haki? Soon, you won't even know where I stand!"
Kuro grinned savagely. "Cut the act! Fought Sengoku Fleet Admiral? Sounds grand, but I'll bet that old man completely countered you. Your sensory illusions are useless against his Buddha Mind."
"I may fall for your tricks, but right now – you're standing there!"
His hand ripped from the wall with a thunderous clap. "Lion Roar!"
Boom!
Shockwaves rippled through the earth.
The alley's exit walls crumbled inward, sealing the passage. Stone barriers erupted from the ground, fortifying the closure. The once-enclosed alley now opened only to the sky.
Kuro's feet lifted from the ground, ascending until he loomed high above the stunned pair. He raised his palm, brushing back his hair.
"You think having a fancy hairstyle lets you reign supreme in the heavens? Today I'll teach you what real dominance looks like!"
"Come on, this has to be a joke!"
Sipatia stared skyward, her usual smirk replaced by wide-eyed shock. From the heavens descended countless dark shapes – weapons! Blades and halberds rained down like a storm!
Kuro might not counter Absolon's power completely – those illusions might cloud his senses – but that didn't mean he couldn't fight back.
In this enclosed alley, movement space was limited. And in tight quarters, crushing opponents was easy.
"Wanna make a name for yourself? Today I'll scatter your ashes to the wind!" Kuro roared with laughter.
