Chapter 210: What About Your Egg?
Chapter 210: What About Your Egg?
As March arrived, the weather gradually warmed up, and the ice on the Black Lake, which had persisted throughout the entire winter, thawed last week.
Recently, the giant squid often poked its head and tentacles out from the bottom of the lake, enjoying the warm sunshine on the water's surface.
This attracted the attention of many students.
Although many who had read Hogwarts, A History knew about the giant squid in the Black Lake, due to its infrequent appearances, only Slytherin, whose common room was at the bottom of the lake, had the opportunity to see it up close, among all the other houses.
Everyone was curious, especially the new students who had just enrolled, and they would rush to the lake as soon as class ended.
The Black Lake suddenly became a new hotspot for check-ins at Hogwarts.
However, Kyle didn't join the crowd. He had already seen the giant squid during the end-of-term exams last year. To be honest, it wasn't much different from a regular squid; it was just slightly bigger.
Moreover, staring at it for too long could make one feel hungry, and you couldn't cook it on a griddle. So, there wasn't much point in going to see it again.
Kyle thought he might as well use this time to read a couple of books instead.
After a few months of studying, Kyle had almost mastered the Seamless Stretch Charm.
Although he wasn't very proficient yet, and the area he could change wasn't as large as he had imagined, he had finally taken the most difficult first step. From now on, he just needed to practice more.
Kyle planned to completely transform his trunk before his fifth year... Not to make it as good as Newt's, but at least it should be able to fit half of the Forbidden Forest.
In the past two years, he had acquired quite a lot of things. Just the plants in his garden could fill up his current trunk. Additionally, he needed to allocate space for the giant and mooncalf territories... and for future members who might join at some unknown time. The current trunk was simply too small.
So, he decided to take action...
After that, Kyle almost rushed to his trunk whenever he had free time.
With his diligent efforts, he finally completed the first expansion of his trunk on the third day of the Easter holiday.
The space inside was almost twice as large as it was initially.
Kyle looked at his achievement, nodding in satisfaction. He now felt like he had upgraded from a single room to a villa.
Moreover, the previous problems were now easily solved.
For instance, the giant now had a much larger activity area.
He could also start preparing a new home for the mooncalfs... Building a cave suitable for their habitation required a lot of space, and he couldn't find a suitable place before, but now he could.
The only problem was that the expansion made the surrounding area feel more spacious and monotonous... But this was also easily solvable.
The next day, Kyle went to the Forbidden Forest early in the morning.
He planned to take advantage of the holiday to move two pear trees into his trunk.
Of course, he couldn't do it during the day; Hagrid might catch him. So, he was just there to scout the location... to identify the target and then move it at night.
A few minutes later, Kyle arrived at Hagrid's Hut, but the door was tightly closed, and all the curtains were drawn tightly shut, even the small window at the top was covered with a copy of the Prophet.
Kyle knocked on the door.
"Who's there?"
Hagrid's voice came from inside, sounding a bit suspicious.
The door then opened slightly.
"It's Kyle! Can I come in?" Kyle said.
"Of course..." Hagrid stepped aside to let Kyle in and quickly closed the door behind him.
The hut was as hot as a sauna, stifling despite the warm, sunny day, with a roaring fire blazing in the fireplace.
In addition to Hagrid, there were three others in the room.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
"Hello," Kyle greeted them.
"You, hello..."
"Long time no see... Kyle."
"Good morning."
The three stood in front of the fireplace, a bit tense, and replied.
They stood like a wall between Kyle and the fireplace, their eyes darting left and right as they spoke, making it obvious to anyone that the fireplace was problematic.
Fortunately, Hagrid arrived at that moment.
He held a copper kettle and brewed a cup of tea for Kyle, and also brought over a white ferret sandwich.
"You just said you needed my help with something?"
"Yes," Kyle said, shifting his gaze from the fireplace. "I want to go to the Forbidden Forest to collect some pear tree branches. Is that okay?"
"Is it still for making that amulet?" Hagrid asked.
Kyle's "Exam Success Charm" from last year had swept through Hogwarts, and he had heard about it.
Read the correct version at 69 Book Bar! 6=9+Book_Bar.
Kyle nodded.
"The end-of-term exams are just two months away. We need to prepare in advance."
"That's easy," Hagrid said with a smile. "Just tell me how much you need, and I'll deliver it to you tomorrow."
"It's not that troublesome. I can pick them myself."
"But..." Hagrid frowned, clearly reluctant to let Kyle go to the Forbidden Forest.
"Don't worry, Hagrid. The pear tree is at the edge of the Forbidden Forest, so there won't be any danger."
Kyle continued, "And I need to select branches with suitable shapes as much as possible; otherwise, it'll be a hassle to process them later."
"Well... okay then!"
Hagrid thought for a moment and added, "But you can only look for them at the edge of the Forbidden Forest."
"No problem," Kyle replied, as that was what he had intended anyway.
Then, Hagrid stood up and prepared to head out.
"Hagrid, are you coming with me?" Kyle asked.
"Of course. I can't let you go to the Forbidden Forest alone," Hagrid said. "Even if it's just the very edge."
"What about the dragon egg?" Kyle asked. "Are you okay with leaving it in Potter's care?"
"It's fine. Dragon eggs aren't that fragile. Just be careful not to let the fireplace..."
"Wait..."
Before Hagrid could finish, Hermione's surprised voice came from the side.
"Kyle, how did you know there was a dragon egg here? You can't see it from where you are."
Upon hearing her words, Hagrid also froze... Indeed, how did Kyle know he had a dragon egg?
"You guys must think that blocking the fireplace will solve the problem."
Kyle laughed and said, "I suggest you read the latest edition of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.' In the chapter about fire dragons, it clearly states that dragon eggs emit a unique sulfur smell in the flames, but it's not very noticeable, and it's easy to overlook it when mixed with the flames."
"If you don't believe me, you can also look back at Yaya. I estimate it's about to pass out."
Kyle pointed to the side, where Hagrid's black hunting dog, Yaya, was lying in the corner, looking listless and pulling its head back, a stark contrast to its previous energetic self when meeting people.
"Oh, Yaya, what's wrong with you!"
Hagrid cried out and rushed over to pick up Yaya before dashing out of the hut.
