Chapter 21: The Sorting Hat's Bold Choice
Chapter 21: The Sorting Hat's Bold Choice
After the unexpected incident, the Sorting Hat no longer hesitated and quickly sorted the remaining students with just a touch of their hair.
With this efficiency, only two new students were left.
"Conna Prins!"
Upon hearing this familiar name, Kyle and Cedric both turned to look.
"Isn't she the little girl from the train?" Cedric asked curiously. "Where do you think she'll be sorted? Slytherin?"
"Probably," Kyle scratched his back subconsciously. "Since she's wearing Muggle clothes, she's most likely a Pureblood, so Slytherin is a good guess...right?"
At that moment, Kyle suddenly froze, unsure if it was just his imagination, but after Professor McGonagall called out Conna's name, Snape, who had been frowning and seemingly disinterested in the sorting process, unexpectedly shifted forward slightly, and his attention was fully focused on the Sorting Hat for the first time.
"They can't know each other!" Kyle thought to himself.
Although Snape rarely participated in social activities due to his unique identity, he was still one of the four Heads of Hogwarts and a renowned Potions master, so it was impossible for him to have no connections in the Wizarding World.
Perhaps Conna's family was among them.
Kyle felt a chill down his spine as this thought crossed his mind, and suddenly, he had a bad premonition.
If Snape, with his personality, found out that he had wronged Conna, Kyle might as well expect to experience the protagonist's treatment ahead of time.
"It can't be a coincidence..." Kyle felt his scalp tingle.
What a pity.
He had just been mocking the Weasley twins for their karma, but he never expected that instant karma would come back to him so quickly, the very next second.
Kyle anxiously looked towards the stage.
For some reason, when it was Conna's turn, the Sorting Hat's efficiency seemed to have returned to the beginning.
After waiting for more than a minute, the Sorting Hat finally spoke:
"Hufflepuff!"
Huh??
A burst of enthusiastic cheers erupted from the Hufflepuff table, and the Prefects stood up once again to welcome Conna into their house.
Only Kyle, watching Conna walk past him, was left with a head full of question marks.
What was going on? Aside from Newt Scamander, were there really Pureblood families who would choose Hufflepuff? That was indeed quite rare.
It's not that there weren't any, as all four houses had Purebloods, but Hufflepuff had fewer of them.
As for whether Conna was following him...that was simply impossible.
Sorting wasn't a game; it was a decision that could significantly impact a wizard's future path.
Even if Conna was young and naive, the Sorting Hat wouldn't allow her to make a joke of it, or else Conna's family wouldn't let the matter rest.
Kyle remembered Chris once telling him that when Sirius Black was sorted into Gryffindor, Black's family, especially his mother, had caused a scene at Hogwarts.
If it weren't for Dumbledore's intervention, the Sorting Hat might have been burned by the Fiendfyre she used.
This incident had caused quite a stir at the time. Although Dumbledore managed to suppress the issue at Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic held several meetings to discuss whether to abandon the Sorting Hat and adopt other methods in the future.
The proposal had a considerable support rate because most Pureblood families were reluctant to have their children sorted into any house other than Slytherin, especially the stubborn traditionalists.
Having a child sorted into Gryffindor was, in their eyes, a disgrace.
Of course, the final result was certainly not passed.
After all, Dumbledore from more than twenty years ago was not as easy to talk to as he is now. After he clearly expressed his opposition, those pure-blood families dared not refuse him this face.
The matter was left at that.
However, after that, those pure-blood family members who supported the proposal never visited the other Houses again.
Kyle glanced at the staff table on the stage.
It was also simple to confirm whether the Sorting was normal. Just look at Snape's reaction. If Conna's family really had a good relationship with Snape, after she was sorted into Hufflepuff, Snape would definitely not continue to sit there calmly...
Hmm...
Alright, Kyle was wrong.
On the student table, Snape's face was so dark that he was about to drip water. He kept talking to Dumbledore and glanced at Hufflepuff from time to time.
Kyle quickly lowered his head, trying to reduce his presence.
Would it be such a coincidence? Is the Sorting Hat really that brave? Kyle's heart was a little nervous.
The error-free version is in Book 69! 6=9+Book_Bar Original Novel.
Meanwhile, the last First-Year Student just finished the Sorting and went to the Gryffindor table.
Dumbledore immediately stood up, smiling at the students below and spreading his arms: "Welcome, welcome to Hogwarts, another school year, and nothing is more delightful than seeing you all.
What are we waiting for, let's eat!"
The originally empty tables were instantly filled with steaming hot food.
Beef, roast chicken, pork chops, sausages, and steak piles formed small mountains, making people's appetites grow.
If you find these too greasy, there are also fragrant boiled potatoes, pea shoots, and fried potato chips on the side, which are quite good when eaten together.
The entire Great Hall was filled with the aroma of food.
Kyle shook his head, trying not to think about those messy things.
Forget it, since things have turned out this way, what's the point of thinking so much? Let's take it one step at a time.
Anyway, no matter what, he won't be the first unlucky one. The Sorting Hat is still there.
Also, even if Snape really wants to cause trouble for him, it won't last long. As long as he can hold on until next year when Harry Potter enrolls, he won't have the mood to bother himself anymore.
Kyle calmed down, reached out, took a fried chicken leg from in front of him, and stuffed it into his mouth.
After a bumpy train ride, he had no appetite and only ate a little snack. He was genuinely hungry now.
The house-elves' cooking skills were excellent.
The fried chicken leg was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. After taking a bite, juice flowed out, and the aroma instantly filled his mouth.
The roasted potatoes were also good, cooked to perfection, and without any extra seasoning, preserving the natural fragrance of the potatoes. If you find it too bland, there's also separate tomato sauce and black pepper on the side.
Kyle found that this combination was surprisingly good, so he took another one.
However, just as he cut the potato and was about to reach for the black pepper, Cedric suddenly came over and whispered, "Haven't you noticed that she's been staring at you?"
"Staring at me? Who?" Kyle replied without lifting his head.
"The one we met on the train, Conna Prins," Cedric raised his eyebrows, full of ridicule, and pointed in the opposite direction, "If you don't believe me, look, she's staring at you again."
