Chapter 21: Put Your Axe Down, Let's Talk
In the list of successful individuals recorded, Ivan even saw the Dumbledore Family, which came as a bit of a surprise to him.
He then recalled Dumbledore's Fawkes the Phoenix, and the rumor about the Dumbledore Family in "Grindelwald's Sins":
"Whenever a member of the Dumbledore Family is in dire need of help, the Phoenix will descend."
Ivan suspected that this might be related to their past fusion with the Phoenix's Bloodline.
According to the book, the Dumbledore Family was relatively gentle and used a form of Contract Magic to obtain part of the Phoenix's Bloodline, even obtaining the Phoenix's consent before the fusion experiment. This was probably the reason for the intimate relationship between the Phoenix and the Dumbledore Family.
"Hmm? Why does it end here?" Ivan was engrossed in reading, but the book suddenly cut off at the part describing the fusion method, as if several pages had been forcibly torn out. The content after that was of little value.
Just as Ivan was puzzled by the idea that the reward was merely some information, the system notification sounded again.
["Origins of Bloodlines" has been read. Challenge Task activated.
Challenge Task: Defeat (or kill) a Troll
Reward: Bloodline Fusion Potion Formula]
Ivan felt a chill. He had always thought this was just a learning system, but he didn't expect it to have a monster-killing reward system.
Ivan was even more curious about who had hidden this book here, setting up a Confundus Charm and a specific Hiding Spell in the restricted section.
Dumbledore was the first person Ivan thought of. The greatest White Wizard of this century had both the authority and the reason to hide "Origins of Bloodlines."
After all, Bloodline fusion was an extremely dangerous process, and the number of wizards who died from it far outnumbered those who survived. This terrifying mortality rate was why wizards with special Bloodlines never became the mainstream.
Others who might have hidden the book included James Potter, Sirius Black, and others. It was very much in their style to hide important items.
Another possibility was Tom Marvolo Riddle, or Voldemort, who had once stayed at Hogwarts.
These thoughts flashed through Ivan's mind, but he didn't dwell on them. He had too much to digest tonight, and even the presence of numerous restricted books couldn't spark his interest.
On his way back, Ivan's attention was on the newly activated challenge task.
Seeing that the target was a Troll, Ivan felt a headache. He wouldn't underestimate the Troll just because Harry and Ron had defeated one in the original story.
Their victory was largely due to coincidence. If it weren't for Harry's Chosen One Aura, the Golden Trio would have been in serious trouble by the time the professors arrived.
From the information Ivan had gathered from the books, Trolls were not easy opponents. They were large, incredibly strong, and had a certain resistance to magic. Even a fully grown wizard would need to be cautious when facing one.
Ivan sighed. If it weren't for the information in "Origins of Bloodlines" that fusing with a magical creature's Bloodline could enhance magical talent, he wouldn't want to face such a monster in his first year.
Ivan walked through the silent, empty castle, somewhat less vigilant due to his smooth journey earlier.
However, not long after emerging from a secret passage, a blue, rapidly moving ghostly light suddenly collided with him.
Ivan shivered as if his whole body had been submerged in ice water. Turning his head, he realized he had bumped into the ugly, hat-wearing Peeves.
Peeves was even more excited, clapping his hands and shouting at the top of his lungs.
"Look, look what I found? Another first-year, come on! There's another one over here!"
"Petrificus Totalus!" Ivan cast the spell without hesitation, and the grayish light hit Peeves' chest precisely. However, Peeves was only pushed back a bit and laughed even harder.
"Ha ha ha, it's no use, you can't hurt me!" Peeves circled around Ivan, seeming to want to keep him there.
Seeing that ordinary magic was ineffective against Peeves, Ivan did not lose heart. After all, ghosts were not immune to all magic, and he had a Dark Magic spell that targeted the mind.
"Fear Curse~"
Just as Peeves was making a grotesque face in front of Ivan, a purple light shot out from the tip of Ivan's wand. Peeves immediately changed his expression, screaming as he crashed into a nearby classroom. From a distance, Ivan could still hear Peeves' shrill cries.
"No, Barrow, spare me, I swear I haven't done anything bad! And Nick, put your ax down, let's talk this out!"
Seeing Peeves' reaction, Ivan nodded in satisfaction. Checking the magic section in the system, he found that the Fear Curse had unknowingly leveled up to level two over the past few days, which explained its effectiveness.
After dealing with the troublesome Peeves, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from a distance. Ivan then remembered that Peeves had said "another" first-year earlier.
Just as Ivan was about to enter the secret passage to hide, it was too late. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville burst out from the opposite direction.
Harry and the others were also surprised to encounter Ivan, but it was clearly not the time for explanations. Harry, after a brief moment of hesitation, grabbed Ivan's arm and pulled him along.
"Ivan, run! No time to explain, Filch is right behind us!"
Ivan didn't even have a chance to mention the secret passage before Harry dragged him into another corridor. With no choice, Ivan followed along.
As they ran, Ivan vaguely felt that this scene seemed familiar. It wasn't until Harry led them into the Fourth Floor Forbidden Corridor that Ivan realized the situation was serious.
"Quick, come in, Filch is coming!" Harry and Neville pulled Ivan into the corridor, despite his reluctance. Hermione quickly shut the door, and Ron, surprisingly, didn't slack off and locked the door with great effort.
"Filch won't be able to get in now", Harry sighed in relief.
"Yes, but we can't get out either", Ivan muttered, looking at the locked door and then sighing as he gazed down the corridor.
"I'd rather face Filch than stay here."
Harry didn't quite understand Ivan's meaning, but he soon felt something sticky on his shoulder. Turning his head, he saw three massive heads staring at him, their open mouths emitting a foul breath, and droplets of yellow saliva occasionally falling from the edges of their mouths, some of which splattered onto his clothes.
"Ah~" The next second, Hermione and the others also saw the Three-Headed Dog, and their terrified screams tore through the night's silence.
