Chapter 209: The Battle of Aupsi City (Part 4) (Update)
In the center of Aupsi City's main square stands a rather crude wooden building.
Half a minute after Su Yu sent his private message, the wooden structure suddenly shattered into a cloud of splinters, creating a chaotic explosion of wood chips.
A red and a blue figure burst out of the debris, flying toward Su Yu and Tina.
These two figures, of course, were the "Lord Alex" and "Lady Camilla" that Su Yu had mentioned. Both were High Mage Saints from the Scholar's Sanctuary.
After the two High Mage Saints flew away, nearby players were astounded to find a substantial teleportation array exposed beneath the shattered wooden building, radiating a brilliant magical glow.
This was a medium-sized teleportation array, allowing players and NPCs to travel to major cities across the empire.
Su Yu had started planning the construction of this array back when Tina's 25th chapter concluded.
In Tina's 25th chapter, the empire's guardian, Kevin Plantagenet, left Olar City and wouldn't be returning for some time.
This created a serious problem:
Previously, Su Yu wasn't afraid of offending the city lord, Claude, because the guardian was around. So, he encouraged Tina to kill the city lord's uncle, securing the blueprint for the Auction House and providing funds for Tina's subsequent reforms.
But now, the guardian was gone.
While the guardian had left without a care, Su Yu's territory was still in Olar City. He could easily predict that Claude would target his territory, possibly even leading an army to attack it.
And, as it turned out, his prediction was correct—Claude did send troops to attack his territory.
After Tina's 25th chapter, to counter Claude's impending actions, Su Yu turned to his own faction—the Scholar's Sanctuary.
The Scholar's Sanctuary had three Tier 6 High Mage Saints and 35 Tier 5 High Mages, giving them a significant edge over the Olar City Lord's forces. With their support, Su Yu wouldn't have to fear Claude's attacks.
However, the Scholar's Sanctuary was far away in Plantagenet City, and their influence didn't extend to Olar City. So, Su Yu began planning the construction of the teleportation array.
At that time, little Kathy hadn't yet improved her quality and didn't know the "Portal" skill.
Thus, Su Yu assigned a lot of hidden quests to the Neon Nuclear Wasteland team of five.
Half of these quests involved obtaining equipment and skill books to boost their strength, while the other half were prerequisites for the teleportation array.
In the end, it was the Neon Godzilla who had the best luck.
Godzilla, with a powerful kiss, managed to win the favor of the dirty-joke-telling NPC, Jenny, increasing her affection to "Passionate."
After an indescribable series of events, Godzilla found the "Teleportation Array Blueprint" in a storage box under Jenny's bed.
Godzilla returned triumphantly with the blueprint, and Su Yu rewarded the Neon Nuclear Wasteland team with 100,000 Spirit Coins. However, he instructed them to keep it a secret.
With the blueprint in hand, Su Yu personally went to Pearl City to purchase the necessary materials. He then had little Kathy and the magic craftsmen work through the night to construct the array, even having the old carpenter, Brook, build a crude wooden shell over it.
These measures ensured that, apart from Su Yu and the Neon Nuclear Wasteland team, no other player knew about the teleportation array.
This kept the array's existence a secret, preventing it from reaching the ears of City Lord Claude and allowing them to prepare.
...
It wasn't until now, when Lord Alex and Lady Camilla shattered the wooden shell and flew out, revealing the teleportation array below, that the players realized:
Oh! So there was a teleportation array hidden beneath that crude wooden building!
...
Lord Alex and Lady Camilla moved swiftly, and the blue and red figures reached Su Yu's position in an instant.
"Welcome, Lord Alex, Lady Camilla. We are honored by your presence," the five members of the Haimleak family hurriedly bowed to the two guests.
Su Yu also bowed respectfully and added, "Thank you both for your timely support."
"No need to thank us, it's a mutual benefit," Alex flew over to Su Yu and patted him on the shoulder approvingly.
In Alex's eyes, Su Yu was a remarkable young man, well-versed and knowledgeable. At a young age, he had already passed the advanced scholar examination, which was no small feat!
Moreover, Su Yu was incredibly wealthy, contributing significantly to the Temple of Scholars. Alex was more than happy to work with such a talented and resourceful young man.
Camilla, a powerful Domain Master, appeared as a kind old grandmother with a head full of white hair. She stared at the approaching mayor, Claude Strev, and drew a fiery red wand from the ether. "Is this Claude Strev?"
"That's right, I am," Claude replied with a grim expression, leading his nine subordinates as they slowly flew over.
Claude had been confident that this mission would be a sure thing. Following the orders of a higher authority, he was to take advantage of the Guardian's absence and kill Tina Garcia.
Destroying Su Yu's territory was merely an additional objective.
However, he had not anticipated the arrival of five Fifth-Rank masters from the Temple of Scholars, let alone two Domain Masters!
If Su Yu were not an adventurer from another world, Claude might have suspected that he was Alex and Camilla's secret child.
But the situation was dire.
With two Domain Masters on Su Yu and Tina's side, Claude's forces were now at a disadvantage. How was he supposed to kill Tina now? Claude furrowed his brow in frustration.
Still, there was no time to worry about that. They were here, and Claude decided to start with some verbal probing.
"Greetings, Masters of the Temple of Scholars. I am Claude Strev, Mayor of Orlan City."
"I wonder why your esteemed temple is interfering in the internal affairs of Orlan City. Do you think that because Orlan City is not as powerful as the capital, you can bully us at will?" Claude's words were sharp and pointed.
"Good day, Lord Claude, you misunderstand," Alex smiled and explained. "In our Temple of Scholars, there are two factions that have been debating for a long time."
"One faction believes that the temple should attract wealthy merchants and nobles, have them pay membership fees, and use these fees to support the temple's daily operations.
With the funds, the temple can purchase more high-value books, establish its own academic journals, and engage in scholarly exchanges with scholars across the country, fostering collective progress and innovation."
"The other faction, however, firmly opposes the inclusion of wealthy merchants and nobles, arguing that it would corrupt the purity of the temple."
"This faction believes that the Temple of Scholars should remain a sanctuary for academic discourse, free from the taint of money and power. They fear that allowing merchants and nobles to join and rise to leadership positions would turn the temple into a tool for political and business interests."
"Have I made myself clear?" Alex looked at Claude with a kind and gentle expression.
"I think so," Claude nodded, still somewhat confused. "But what does this have to do with your interference in Orlan City's internal affairs?"
