Chapter 209: Storm Buns
Chapter 209: Storm Buns
"As expected, it's in the same category as Thunderbird's feather powder!"
Now that he had seen the information about these feathers for himself, Naoki actually calmed down and didn't seem too surprised.
After returning to the ranch, he waved away the few Pokemon that rushed forward to greet him, saying, "You guys go play by yourselves for a bit; I have something to do."
The Rockruffs obediently ran off to amuse themselves.
Naoki, on the other hand, turned around and went back into the house, heading straight for the kitchen to prepare the ingredients for his next culinary endeavor.
First, he needed the essential flour, and then the tools for kneading the dough.
He planned to mix the feather powder into the flour, just like he had done previously, to make buns.
However, it was unfortunate that the Latias' feather powder contained a large amount of Flying-type energy, and most of it had dissipated during the grinding process.
What remained was...
Naoki held the transparent glass jar up to eye level and observed the thin layer of silver-white powder at the bottom.
"It's so much less than Thunderbird's feather powder; probably only a quarter of the amount," Naoki sighed inwardly, knowing there was nothing he could do about it.
But there was another concern.
Would this minuscule amount affect the outcome of the dish?
After a brief moment of contemplation, Naoki decided to give it a try anyway.
He started kneading the dough, adding the silver-white powder to the flour and mixing it with water.
Just like how he had felt a tingling sensation when touching the Thunderbird's feather powder.
When Naoki touched the Latias' feather powder, he also felt a gust of wind wrap around his palms, the Flying-type energy transforming into a milky-white current that swirled incessantly within the container.
This energy fluctuated between intense and gentle, and even after the flour and feather powder were completely incorporated, the milky-white currents remained, lingering around the dough as if they were special effects.
Naoki's eyebrows shot up in surprise, "Amazing."
The dough was ready, but it still needed time to proof.
Naoki covered the dough with plastic wrap and set it aside to rise, knowing it would take about three to four hours.
He wasn't in a rush, so he settled into the sofa to watch TV while he waited.
The Plusle and Minun siblings acted like loyal old butlers, standing guard nearby.
The Minun sister thoughtfully made a cup of hot tea for Naoki.
He took a sip and felt refreshed all over.
Looking at the two standing Pokemon, he said, "You two can sit and rest, too!"
"Ai~"
The Minun happily nodded and sat on the sofa close to Naoki, while the Plusle took a seat at the other end.
Meanwhile, deep in the ocean...
In a quiet and profound part of the sea, Latias, who had just returned home and was about to get some well-deserved sleep, suddenly opened its eyes.
It sensed that one of its feathers had lost connection with it.
Latias' eyes widened in surprise and confusion.
Pokemon like it didn't usually shed feathers.
Only kind-hearted human trainers would be gifted with its feathers.
If someone were to take that feather to the deepest part of the Whirling Island Cave and make a sincere wish, Latias would appear to meet that person, as a way of acknowledging their courage and purity of heart.
Those silver feathers contained its unique energy, and because of this, it could always sense the feathers' whereabouts.
In the ancient times of long ago, it had even promised some of its human friends that if they ever faced danger and needed help, they could summon it using the silver feather.
Latias would then emerge from the depths of the sea to lend its aid.
But now...
It had lost connection with one of its silver feathers and could no longer sense its energy.
Latias' expression turned solemn.
What had happened to that feather?
At 2 p.m., the dough had finished proofing.
Naoki removed the plastic wrap and shaped the dough into buns, officially starting the steaming process.
Due to the limited amount of the key ingredient, he could only manage to make six buns this time.
However, he wasn't sure if these buns would have the same effect as the Thunder Buns, with each one possessing the power of the Thunder God.
It was only when the buns at the bottom of the pot were steamed that Naoki got the answer to his question.
[Storm Bun (S+)
: A legendary dish made from the feather powder of a legendary Pokemon. It is said that consuming it will grant the power to harness storms and control the weather.
Dish Effect: Sea God (1/6)
. Allows a Pokemon to gain control over the weather, manipulating it at will just like the feather's owner. Limited to Flying-type Pokemon.
The "Sea God" effect of 1/6 meant that a Pokemon would have to eat all six buns to fully manifest the power, right?
Coincidentally, he had just made six buns.
Naoki decided to test it out immediately.
He happened to have a Flying-type Pokemon on his ranch.
The image of his Dragonite popped into Naoki's mind.
He asked Ai Guanshi to go call the Dragonite, who was playing outside, over.
Soon, Dragonite came running over with Ai Guanshi.
Looking confused, it asked, "Drai?"
Naoki smiled and brought the six steaming buns over to Dragonite. "Eat them all?"
Dragonite twitched its nostrils, smelling the buns but looking hesitant. As a Dragonite, it didn't particularly enjoy eating buns.
Noticing its hesitation, Naoki raised an eyebrow and said, "Don't you want to become the strongest Dragonite in the world? Eat these, and you can make your dream come true."
Dragonite, who was well aware of Naoki's abilities, widened its eyes in excitement and asked eagerly, "Drai?"
Naoki nodded. "Of course. I made this dish especially for you."
Hearing this, Dragonite no longer hesitated. Ignoring the taste, it opened its mouth wide and devoured all the buns.
As soon as Dragonite finished the last bun, Naoki noticed an unmistakable surge of energy emanating from its body.
The wind started blowing inside the house.
Naoki's eyelids twitched, and he quickly pushed Dragonite towards the door. "Let's go outside!"
As soon as Dragonite stepped out, the energy within it erupted.
The once clear sky was rapidly covered by a thick blanket of dark clouds, visible to the naked eye.
The commotion immediately caught the attention of the other Pokemon on the ranch.
The five Hakulyn and two wild Dragonites flew over, their eyes wide with shock as they witnessed the dominant aura of the Dragonite.
Motorsaur sensed a powerful presence and immediately ran over to join the spectacle without even turning its head.
Only Goolton glanced up with a flicker of interest before calmly lying back down in the grass to continue its nap.
At that moment, Naoki and the Pokemon all performed the same action.
They looked up at the sky, toward the massive cloud formation.
The Dragonite on the grass also sensed the changes occurring within its body.
Its eyes sparkled with excitement as it recalled Naoki's words—one day, the entire world will be shrouded in your rain!
Dragonite had a premonition that it could actually make that happen now!
It wanted to try! Dragonite roared towards the sky, then used the move it had practiced countless times and employed daily—Rain Dance!
Dragonite's mind stirred with anticipation.
The next second, rain began to fall from the sky, light at first but quickly intensifying.
The gentle autumn rain enveloped the entire ranch and extended further outward.
Dragonite wasn't satisfied with this and took to the skies, dancing exuberantly in the rain while unleashing the energy it had gained from the magical buns.
Simultaneously, the rain covered Rustboro, Grand Lake, and Sea Mauville.
Even the scorching and perpetually dry Scorched Desert experienced rainfall.
The rain fell on the desert sand, dripping onto the forehead of a lone Krokorok lying in wait for prey, its eyes glistening with cunning.
The sudden coolness startled the Krokorok, and it froze, looking up with bewilderment in its dark, beady eyes.
In Rustboro, people and Pokemon on the streets sought shelter from the rain under the awnings of shops.
An office worker with a briefcase was late to react and hurried under an awning, shaking off the rainwater from his briefcase. He wondered,
"How strange. Didn't the weather forecast say it would be cloudy turning clear today? Why did it suddenly start raining?"
He wasn't the only one perplexed. At the same time, at the Padaria Weather Institute, located north of Sea Mauville and west of the Giant Pit, weather researchers stood under the building's awning, staring at the unusual downpour with puzzled expressions.
"What's going on? Did the machines malfunction?"
"No, it doesn't seem like it. This rain is too strange. One second it was clear skies, and the next, it's pouring rain with no warning at all."
"This phenomenon resembles a Pokemon move..."
"Are you saying... Rain Dance?"
After a long silence, someone exclaimed, "Is this really caused by a Pokemon?"
To be able to invoke rain on such a large scale, what kind of powerful Pokemon could it be?
Could it be a wild Legendary Pokemon that has appeared in the Padaria region? Just like what happened in the Orange Islands not long ago, the rampage of those Legendary Pokemon caused global weather changes.
Pokemon League.
The current chief champion of the Padaria region, Ye Ci, stood by the window with her hands behind her back, gazing up at the pouring rain outside.
As an experienced Pokemon Trainer, Ye Ci could sense the abnormality in this rain.
It was definitely not a natural weather phenomenon but rather the doing of an unknown Pokemon, to be precise.
Her fingers curled slightly as she fell into deep thought.
"I wonder what kind of Pokemon it is."
Ye Ci racked her brains, and if her memory served her right, there didn't seem to be any such Pokemon capable of influencing the weather in the legends of the Padaria region.
This implied that the Pokemon causing this rain was likely brought to the Padaria region by a mysterious Trainer.
To be able to nurture and capture such a powerful Pokemon, that Trainer must be an incredible talent!
"I wonder if the Padaria League can recruit this person," Ye Ci thought to herself.
But soon, she realized that her speculation had yet to be confirmed.
Ye Ci shook her head with a wry smile and closed the window, no longer paying attention to the rain.
If such a talented Trainer truly existed, they would surely reveal themselves to the world someday. When that time came, she could try to reach out to them.
Back at the ranch, Naoki took shelter under the eaves with Motorsaur and the others, looking up at the Aerodactyl in the sky.
"Is this Latias's power?" Naoki muttered to himself.
Latias, known as the Sea God.
But this Sea God was not the same as the other.
Unlike Gyarados, the embodiment of the sea and tasked with expanding the oceans, Latias leaned more towards controlling ocean currents and the world's weather.
It possessed the astonishing power to suppress raging waves, and legends said that a forty-day storm would ensue whenever Latias flapped its wings.
From these legends, one could fathom the extent of Latias's capabilities.
Air currents, meteorology, cyclones, hurricanes...
"Overall, the effect of the Storm Buns exceeded my expectations," Naoki concluded in his mind. "It also fulfilled Aerodactyl's wish."
Looking at the endless rain, Naoki raised his eyebrows.
It seemed that what he had said to Aerodactyl wasn't a lie after all.
Naoki sighed with emotion. When he looked up to find Aerodactyl in the sky, he was surprised to see that it had disappeared without a trace.
Naoki paused, then asked Motorsaur, "Where's Aerodactyl?"
Motorsaur pointed upwards and replied, "Gaou!"
It meant that Aerodactyl had flown in a higher direction.
Naoki was speechless. This guy...
Forget it, let him have his fun!
Naoki sighed helplessly and turned back into the kitchen to start washing the dishes.
By the time he finished cleaning the pot, the rain outside had finally stopped.
With the sun's rays, a brilliant rainbow appeared in the air.
Around this time, Aerodactyl, who had enjoyed its playtime, finally returned to the ranch.
It rushed into the house, excitedly extended its large claws, and hugged Naoki, who was wiping the table.
"Roar~"
Naoki was helpless, "Are you that happy?"
Aerodactyl nodded repeatedly, "Roar!"
Seeing Aerodactyl's reaction, Naoki was afraid that it would become arrogant.
He thought for a moment and admonished, "Don't be conceited, okay? From now on, you still need to work hard and practice diligently to truly master this power. Although you're already very strong, there are many, many stronger Pokemon in this world."
Aerodactyl blinked and happily nodded.
"Roar!"
It clearly understood this.
Aerodactyl's mind conjured up the image of the pitch-black, powerful, and mysterious Pokemon it had seen at the eye of the typhoon, atop the storm.
Thus, it would continue its diligent training!
I attended a banquet today and had a few drinks, so I'm feeling a bit feverish and unwell. I'm lacking inspiration, so I'll owe you guys five more chapters, and I'm truly sorry about that...
