Chapter 209: A Young wizard Like You Must Have Many Interesting Stories, Right?
Chapter 209: A Young wizard Like You Must Have Many Interesting Stories, Right?
"Sounds like you can use these spells every day", Ivan raised an eyebrow, speaking with evident dissatisfaction.
"Before I was cursed", Lockhart was about to bring up the fabricated stories, but Ivan immediately interrupted him.
"If you, Professor, are dissatisfied, this transaction can be canceled!"
"No, no, no, I am very satisfied", Lockhart shook his head awkwardly.
He was going to hold the Duelling Club tomorrow, and if Ivan terminated the deal now, all his plans would fall through.
Moreover, Lockhart was well aware that high-end magical items were not easy to create, especially those that could directly enhance a wizard's combat power.
Families with traditions jealously guard their knowledge, and very little of it is available to the public.
Therefore, most of the magical items on the market are auxiliary types.
"Professor, where is the remaining Galleons?" Ivan had no intention of wasting time with Lockhart and spoke directly.
"Don't worry, I've been prepared." Lockhart took a bag from his desk drawer and placed it on the table.
Ivan took it, opened it, and looked inside. The bag was enchanted with an Extension Charm, making its internal space much larger. It was filled with golden Galleons.
The amount looked substantial.
Ivan placed his wand on the table and tapped it. The Galleons in the bag jumped up and stacked in groups of fifty.
Thirty groups, totaling one thousand five hundred Galleons!
Adding the five hundred Galleons deposit Lockhart had initially given and the additional five hundred Galleons "overtime fee", the amount was just right.
Lockhart watched as Ivan effortlessly waved his wand, returning the Galleons to the bag, and couldn't help but praise him.
"To be honest, I've never seen a young wizard as talented as you, able to earn so many Galleons from me at such a young age."
"A young wizard like you, who is so extraordinary, must have some very interesting experiences, right? I've heard many rumors about you around the school", Lockhart said with a smile, clearly interested.
Due to the embarrassing incident at the beginning of the term, Lockhart had purposefully gathered information about Ivan after coming to Hogwarts.
The content he collected exceeded his expectations.
According to a young wizard named Seamus, Ivan had killed a twelve-foot (twenty-foot) tall giant troll at the start of the term.
Then, he rode a Fire Dragon into the Forbidden Forest to rescue Hagrid, the gamekeeper, and at the end of the term, he removed the previous Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor.
Rumors suggested that Professor Quirrell had connections with the Dark Lord.
Lockhart found it hard to believe these stories when he first heard them; he wouldn't even dare to write such things in his own books!
Soon, Lockhart guessed that Ivan might be the same kind of person as himself.
Enthusiastic about showing off in school, to the point of fabricating these stories and making people believe them.
However, after witnessing Ivan's impressive performance with magical items at the Quidditch pitch, Lockhart changed his mind.
Perhaps some of these legends were true.
Therefore, in Lockhart's view, the young wizard in front of him was undoubtedly a treasure trove of stories.
"My story? I have plenty, but I doubt you'd want to hear them." Ivan's heart immediately went on alert when Lockhart mentioned this, but he maintained a calm demeanor, shaking his head.
"That's such a shame. You should know that I absolutely love hearing other people's stories." Lockhart sighed regretfully.
Lockhart fastened the golden-red cloak around himself and looked at himself in the mirror with a flamboyant air. After a few moments, he seemed to remember something and turned to Ivan, who was about to leave.
"By the way, does the Cloak of Protection you gave me automatically block spells?"
"No, it doesn't have that effect. You need to activate it manually", Ivan shook his head, picked up the bag filled with Galleons from the table, and turned to leave.
One, two.
Ivan silently counted in his mind as he walked to the door. At that moment, he heard a slight noise. His wand was already pointing at himself.
"Armor Charm!"
Just as Ivan uttered the spell, Lockhart's voice rang out a moment later.
"Obliviate!"
A white light struck Ivan with extraordinary speed. The defense created by the Armor Charm held for a moment before being broken.
But as Ivan's left hand, which bore a Protective Ring, lit up, a second magical barrier blocked the white light and deflected it back.
Lockhart was taken aback and had no time to dodge.
Fortunately, just as the white light was about to hit him, Lockhart quickly activated the Cloak of Protection. A similar magical barrier lit up around his body, deflecting the light to the side of the wall.
Lockhart instinctively patted his body in fear. After a while, he realized he was unharmed.
It then dawned on him that the Obliviate spell, which had been deflected back, had been blocked by the Cloak of Protection he had bought from Ivan.
At that moment, Ivan's voice echoed in the office.
"Professor, were you just about to use the Obliviate spell on me?"
Ivan's expression was playful. He was also somewhat surprised by the strength of Lockhart's Obliviate spell, which had managed to break through his Armor Charm. No wonder so many powerful wizards had fallen for it.
"Of course not, how could I? I was just testing whether the items you gave me were as effective as you claimed", Lockhart waved his hand, trying to refute.
But seeing Ivan's increasingly impatient expression, Lockhart realized that Ivan wouldn't believe him. So he admitted it outright.
"Alright, I was planning to use the Obliviate spell on you, no doubt about it. That way, no one would know that I rely on these little gadgets to perform magic."
"But now that you know, you'll soon forget, just like the other wizards", Lockhart said with confidence.
"Are you sure?" Ivan's expression was strange. He felt that Lockhart had an inexplicable confidence.
Could it be that he has been flattered too much and really thinks he's a master of magic?
"After all, the items you made for me seem to be even better than the ones you have on you, don't they?" Lockhart raised an eyebrow, took a few steps forward, and pressed a switch while speaking in a light tone.
"Also, I forgot to mention that this office is soundproof, and you won't be able to leave."
