Chapter 208: Knowing Taste
Chapter 208: Knowing Taste
Someone was inquiring about the array master, and Elder Yu informed Mo Hua, cautioning him to be careful.
It's important to be vigilant, even if one must not harbor malicious intentions.
Mo Hua pondered this and felt that it was unlikely he was under suspicion. Unless it was someone familiar with him, most cultivators wouldn't believe that a child of around ten years old like himself could create a first-grade array.
Instead, Mo Hua worried about Mr. Zhuang. He feared that the Qian family's suspicions might fall on the old man, and he didn't want to cause any trouble for him.
Mo Hua paid a visit to Mr. Zhuang and briefly explained the situation.
Mr. Zhuang merely smiled and said, "Do what you believe is right. You don't need to worry about me."
"Won't the Qian family cause trouble for you?" Mo Hua asked.
"They won't be able to find me," Mr. Zhuang replied.
"But what if they do?" Mo Hua still felt uneasy.
"'Originally, there was nothing, where would the dust come from?' They won't be able to find me," Mr. Zhuang said calmly.
Mo Hua nodded as if he understood, but he felt that Mr. Zhuang's words were cryptic and didn't really know what he meant.
However, since Mr. Zhuang had said so, he must have his reasons, and Mo Hua felt relieved.
Mr. Zhuang was enigmatic and profound, and he might not even care about the Qian family. But if their actions disturbed Mr. Zhuang's peaceful cultivation, that wouldn't be good.
"How's your progress with the array path?" Mr. Zhuang asked.
"I've learned both the first-grade Molten Fire Soul Controlling Restoration Array and the first-grade Fire-Wood Twin Birth Restoration Array, and I've applied them to the stove," Mo Hua said happily.
Mr. Zhuang nodded in approval. "Good."
Mo Hua smiled and then asked, "Master, which arrays should I learn next?"
"Just find some restoration arrays and study them casually," Mr. Zhuang said. "When you break through to the seventh layer of the Sky Derivation Technique, take a look at the puzzle array in your sea of consciousness, and then make your next plans."
"Alright," Mo Hua nodded.
What kind of puzzle array would be the bottleneck for the seventh layer of the Sky Derivation Technique?
Mo Hua was both excited and nervous.
After bidding farewell to Mr. Zhuang, Mo Hua headed home as usual, but on the way, he ran into An Xiaofu.
"What a coincidence," Mo Hua greeted him.
An Xiaofu hung his head low, looking glum. "It's not a coincidence. My grandfather and father asked me to wait for you specifically in this area."
"Ah?" Mo Hua was taken aback.
"They wanted me to pretend to bump into you and get close to you," An Xiaofu explained. "But since you're so smart, you would've known right away, so I didn't bother acting. My grandfather and father also asked me to..."
An Xiaofu spilled the beans, sharing everything his grandfather and father had instructed him to do, whether he was supposed to or not.
Mo Hua couldn't help but find the situation amusing.
After speaking his mind, An Xiaofu felt much better.
He felt that he had accomplished his task. He had said what his grandfather and father had told him to say, and he had done what they had asked of him, even if the method was slightly different from their instructions.
An Xiaofu breathed a sigh of relief, feeling unburdened.
"By the way, I also have some gifts for you from my grandfather. Please accept them," An Xiaofu said, handing over a storage bag containing some array books, several array brushes, and a good amount of spirit ink.
They weren't extremely valuable, but it was clear that a lot of thought had gone into selecting these gifts, catering to Mo Hua's interests.
Mo Hua declined at first, but An Xiaofu insisted, "If I take them back, my grandfather will scold me. If I give them to you, he might even praise me. They're not that expensive, so just take them. It's silly not to take advantage of a good deal."
Mo Hua considered this and nodded. "Indeed."
Not wanting to be a "silly fool," Mo Hua accepted the gifts and then said, "Come, let me treat you to a meal!"
An Xiaofu waved his hands. "How could I let you spend money on me?"
"It's not spending money. My family owns this place!" Mo Hua said, gesturing towards the restaurant.
Intrigued, An Xiaofu thought that since he was going back to the clan anyway, and there wasn't much to do there, he might as well follow Mo Hua and have some fun.
He accompanied Mo Hua through several streets and around a few corners until they reached a restaurant at the intersection. The signboard fluttered in the wind, and the spacious ground was furnished with plain tables and long benches.
Patrons gathered in small groups, either devouring meat or drinking alcohol, clinking cups and chatting boisterously.
From a distance, Mo Hua waved and called out, "Mother."
Liu Ruhua emerged with a smile, spotting Mo Hua and the chubby little boy in fine clothing by her side. She asked, puzzled, "Who is this?"
An Xiaofu bowed politely and introduced himself, "Auntie, my name is An Xiaofu."
"From the An family?"
An Xiaofu nodded, "My father is the head of the An family."
Liu Ruhua was surprised and turned to look at Mo Hua, wondering how she had become acquainted with the young master of the An family.
Mo Hua said, "Mother, I'm treating Xiaofu to a meal. Please cook something delicious for us."
"Treating others to a meal at such a young age..." Liu Ruhua chuckled and asked An Xiaofu, "Young Master An, what would you like to eat?"
An Xiaofu quickly waved his hands, "Just call me Xiaofu. I'm not picky, anything is fine."
Liu Ruhua nodded, "Alright, you two play for a while. I'll prepare some food."
Mo Hua pulled An Xiaofu to a table in a well-lit corner and they sat down.
An Xiaofu looked around, "So this is your family's restaurant."
"Yup!" Mo Hua said proudly.
He had been instrumental in getting this restaurant up and running.
An Xiaofu felt a twinge of envy, "That's nice."
Mo Hua asked, puzzled, "Don't you have the Ling Shan Lounge in your family? It's bigger and looks more impressive."
An Xiaofu thought for a moment, "It's different. Although the Ling Shan Lounge is big and quiet, it always feels cold and empty. Eating there is boring."
An Xiaofu looked around at the other diners.
There were demon hunters, artifact refiners, pill refiners, local vagrant cultivators, traveling peddlers, and foreign merchants. They all looked different, but they were gathered together, eating, chatting, laughing, and enjoying themselves.
Sometimes even strangers would strike up enthusiastic conversations, offering each other a cup of alcohol and wishing each other a safe journey.
"It's more fun when everyone gathers together like this and eats merrily," An Xiaofu said.
Mo Hua agreed, "Then eat a lot later. My mother's cooking is delicious."
"Thank you," An Xiaofu said politely.
However, he was just being courteous, and he didn't expect the food to be that amazing.
The An family owned the Ling Shan Lounge, where they employed renowned chefs who crafted exquisite dishes from various premium recipes, creating a myriad of rare and delectable flavors.
Having eaten there every day, he had tasted all kinds of delicacies.
But when Liu Ruhua brought out the dishes, An Xiaofu realized that he had never tasted anything like this before...
An Xiaofu took a bite and asked, "What kind of meat is this?"
"It's demon beast meat." Mo Hua picked up a piece with his chopsticks and tasted it, "I think it's probably sheep. If it were still in Dahu Mountain, I could recognize it, but now that it's on a plate, I can't."
An Xiaofu was amazed, "Can demon beast meat be made to taste this good?"
"Hehe, who would've thought?"
An Xiaofu took another bite, savoring the flavors, "The spices are different too."
"You can taste the spices too?"
An Xiaofu nodded.
"Can you identify them?" Mo Hua was curious.
"Hmm..." An Xiaofu thought for a moment, "There's cassia, mustard, plum, ginger flower..."
An Xiaofu named quite a few, then added, "There are also some with very unique flavors that I've never tasted before, so I can't identify them."
Mo Hua was surprised, "You're amazing!"
Some of these spices were purchased from the market, while others were collected by Mo Hua from the outer reaches of Dahu Mountain. These spices were rather obscure and not suitable for mass production, so it was normal for An Xiaofu not to know their names.
But to be able to identify so many spices was indeed impressive.
An Xiaofu felt embarrassed by Mo Hua's praise, "I... I just eat a lot, so I can taste the difference. It's not that useful. I can't compare to you..."
After all, Mo Hua could create formations, and her skill was exceptional, even surprising her grandfather.
