Chapter 208: Increasing Trust Levels
Chapter 208: Increasing Trust Levels
Early in the morning, Kakashi woke up. This time, it wasn't his alarm clock or his biological clock that roused him, but a delightful aroma that drifted through the air.
Still groggy, Kakashi wondered about the source of the scent. It was only when he opened his eyes and saw the unfamiliar ceiling that he remembered he hadn't gone home yesterday but had stayed at Mu Yue's place.
Perhaps it was because he had slept so soundly, but Kakashi felt refreshed and energized.
He left the room and made his way downstairs.
"Good morning! I've just finished preparing breakfast. Let's eat together," Mu Yue said with a smile as she noticed Kakashi coming downstairs, carrying the breakfast she had prepared.
"Thank you for your trouble, Mu Yue-san," Kakashi said gratefully.
Glancing at the table, Kakashi noticed that there seemed to be more food than usual, perhaps because of his presence. Breakfast was a feast—sweet red bean rice, steaming miso soup, thick egg rolls, and grilled fish.
"Let's dig in," Kakashi said as he sat down at the table.
It had been a long time since he had said those words at breakfast. It wasn't just about telling the food that he was going to eat it; it was about sharing a meal with someone. When eating alone, there was no need to announce it.
As Kakashi savored Mu Yue's delicious breakfast, the chaotic thoughts in his mind disappeared, and he found himself immersed in a culinary delight, relishing every bite.
After devouring all the dishes in front of him and downing the last drop of the hot miso soup, Kakashi felt a warm and comfortable sensation throughout his body.
It was only when he saw the empty plates before him that he realized he had unconsciously eaten so much.
[Disciple Hatake Kakashi's trust level has increased. Current trust level: 3]
"It seems you really enjoyed my cooking," Mu Yue said as she got up to clear the table, her smile reflecting the effort she had put into earning his trust.
"Your cooking is truly exceptional, Mu Yue-sensei," Kakashi said sincerely.
While it might be hard to say who the strongest ninja in the ninja world was at the moment, Kakashi would be the first to object if anyone claimed to be a better cook than Mu Yue. Her culinary skills were on par with illusion-level techniques.
"Let me help with the dishes," Kakashi offered.
After all the trouble Mu Yue had taken to counsel him and prepare such a sumptuous breakfast, he felt compelled to do something in return.
"Then I'll have to trouble you, Kakashi-kun," Mu Yue agreed amiably.
Sometimes, accepting another person's kindness could bring them closer and deepen their trust.
After washing the dishes, Kakashi and Mu Yue headed to the Southern Border Forest for training.
Mu Yue's healing abilities seemed to be effective, as Kakashi experienced no mental or physical fatigue that day, temporarily returning to his normal self.
"So, this is what you meant by my 'hollow' confidence, huh? Just one day of training and your legs can't even stand straight," Kakashi teased Obito after their full concentration breathing exercise.
"Y-you don't understand... Maintaining full concentration breathing is exhausting!" Obito replied, his speech slightly slurred from exhaustion.
"Toughen up! You can't be this weak," Kakashi goaded, determined to make Obito pay for the past few days' worth of training.
Obito rolled his eyes and slumped to the ground, acting as if he had been exhausted by someone who didn't understand the breathing technique.
Mu Yue nodded inwardly, taking this as a positive sign of recovery. The fact that Obito had the energy to bicker with Kakashi meant that he was on the mend.
Kakashi's problem was difficult to solve within the village, and they would need to seek external help.
Mu Yue didn't expect to resolve everything with just one mission, especially after two consecutive accidents. Even with his 'cheat', it was unlikely for a third accident to occur, so they would need to take on more missions to find the right opportunity.
"Alright! Another mission!" Deidara exclaimed, his eyes lighting up as he struggled to stand.
Each mission he undertook became a topic of conversation with Yahiko, and also a source of bragging rights back at the Ninja Academy.
While other students discussed their menial tasks, he could proudly recount his experiences in A-rank and B-rank missions, imagining the envious looks on their faces.
"Be careful out there, everyone. Don't get hurt," Konan said softly.
"Don't worry, Konan. With Sensei Mu Yue and me here, everything will be fine," Deidara assured, patting his chest.
"Deidara, are you underestimating my youthful vigor? When the time comes, I will protect my comrades with the passion of my youth!" Might Guy flashed his brilliant white teeth in a wide grin.
"Then let me rephrase," Deidara said after a moment's thought. "With Sensei Mu Yue, Guy, and me, there's nothing to worry about." The current Might Guy was indeed formidable; anyone who saw him, except for Shisui, would be in for a headache. He was truly a force to be reckoned with.
Kakashi: ...
"Sensei Mu Yue and Guy are reliable, but you, on the other hand..." Kakashi retorted without holding back when Deidara took the initiative to provoke him. "If I hadn't shown up in time during the last mission, you would've been badly injured. Your fighting style is too reckless and impulsive. You need to be more cautious and think things through."
"Be careful during the battle, Deidara," Konan added, a hint of worry in her voice.
"I only ended up in that situation because I was trying to help him!" Deidara fired back, not backing down. He even brought up the incident from the mission before last, when Kakashi had been inactive for a full ten minutes.
"You're full of spirit, but save some energy for tomorrow's mission." Mu Yue smiled, bringing an end to their argument after observing for a while.
With Mu Yue's intervention, the two temporarily ceased their bickering.
...
The next morning, Mu Yue led her disciples to the Hokage Building to accept a mission.
"Are there any C-rank missions in the Land of Rivers today?" Mu Yue asked directly.
The Land of Rivers had been affected by the war between Cloud and Sand, making it easier to find opportunities there.
In fact, it would be even easier to find opportunities in the Land of Grass, as the Land of Rivers was only indirectly involved in the war. The main conflict between Cloud and Sand was taking place within the Land of Wind, while in the Land of Grass, Rock and Konoha were currently engaged in battle, making it the main battlefield.
However, because of this, almost all the missions in the Land of Grass were now related to the war, and Mu Yue's class couldn't accept those missions due to their intern status.
"The Land of Rivers, let me check." The registering ninja began flipping through the mission list.
"There's one to exterminate bandits near Sanagawa Town, and another to escort a client back to the Land of Rivers' capital."
