Chapter 208: Gold-Spending Warrior Lockhart
Chapter 208: Gold-Spending Warrior Lockhart
After once again swindling five hundred Galleons from Lockhart, Ivan became extremely busy over the next few days.
Apart from his regular classes and continuing to research the strange characters provided by the system, he spent all his other time in the Room of Requirement, studying new magical rune arrangement formulas.
A single Instant Armor Charm Protective Ring was definitely not enough to meet Lockhart's demands.
Fortunately, although time was tight, the funds were abundant, allowing Ivan to experiment freely, putting all his ideas into action without worrying about material costs.
In just a few days, Ivan's Alchemy skills advanced significantly.
The sound of increased proficiency echoed in Ivan's mind every so often.
Additionally, there was another piece of good news regarding the magic prank workshop.
The recent conflict between Gryffindor and Slytherin had inadvertently promoted the Weasley Brothers' joke products.
Their Dungbombs, Skiving Snackboxes, Bang Fireworks, and Self-Inking Quills were selling like hotcakes, keeping George and Fred extremely busy. They even discussed expanding their workforce with Ivan.
"Recruiting some people to help? That's not a bad idea!" Ivan considered it and didn't oppose their suggestion.
Items like Dungbombs and Skiving Snackboxes were simple magical trinkets, not difficult to make.
As long as they were taught the method, an older student could easily produce them.
Moreover, with the students at Hogwarts, it was easy to manage them. A school year wouldn't cost much in Galleons, which was far cheaper than modifying a corresponding magical machine.
As for the risk of the production methods being leaked and copied, the three of them didn't care much. As long as they protected their advanced knowledge, no one could compete with them.
Most importantly, for a joke shop, the key was to continuously introduce creative new products to maintain novelty.
In this aspect, few could match George and Fred.
After discussing the expansion of their workforce, Ivan mentioned that he was currently working on some magical item research and might not be able to help them.
George and Fred were very curious, but Ivan didn't reveal too much, promising to share the details in a couple of weeks.
Two weeks passed in the blink of an eye.
In the Room of Requirement, Ivan looked at the gloves, cloak, and ring in front of him, sighing in relief. He had managed to complete these items before the agreed-upon time.
[Ding, after some practice, your Alchemy proficiency has increased. Current level 4 (2710/4000)]
Looking at the long proficiency bar for Alchemy, Ivan felt a headache. He had no idea when he would finally reach level seven and be able to create the Philosopher's Stone.
However, although his Alchemy hadn't leveled up, the magical rune formulas he had developed were very real.
"But they look too cheap." Ivan stroked his chin, examining the three unremarkable magical items in front of him, muttering to himself.
They really didn't look like something worth 2000 Galleons.
With this in mind, Ivan continued to modify them.
For example, he plated the ring with gold and added a large blue sapphire in the center.
While this didn't enhance the item's effects, it at least made them look more valuable, didn't it?
Ivan nodded in satisfaction, then proceeded to modify his cloak, turning it into a flamboyant gold and red design. He also added some intricate patterns to the surface of his gloves.
After finishing everything, Ivan took the items to Lockhart.
Upon entering Lockhart's office, Ivan noticed that Lockhart was writing something on a piece of parchment with a quill.
Ivan took a closer look and read the title on the parchment.
"Duelling Club?"
"Exactly, the Duelling Club!" Lockhart tossed the quill aside, blew on the ink to dry it, and said proudly.
"I finally managed to convince that old fox Dumbledore to give me a platform to showcase my skills, or rather, to teach you all."
Lockhart quickly corrected himself, then turned to Ivan with a mix of eagerness and anticipation. "Hals, have you finished making the things I asked for?"
"Of course." Ivan nodded and threw a golden ring to Lockhart.
"Excellent, it suits me perfectly!" Lockhart put on the ring, then looked at the deep red cloak and the gloves with their vibrant patterns, and said with satisfaction.
"What are these for?" Lockhart asked Ivan.
"The ring, cloak, and gloves are enchanted with the Disarming Charm, Armor Charm, and Petrification Charm, respectively", Ivan explained. "You just need to channel your magic to activate them, saving you the trouble of casting the spells verbally."
Lockhart's eyes lit up. If he could convincingly pretend to be a master of non-verbal spells, he could claim to possess advanced spellcasting techniques.
Lockhart tried pointing his wand at a Porcelain Vase in the distance. A grayish-white magic beam flashed, and the vase instantly turned to stone, becoming a strange gray color.
This was the effect of the Petrification Charm.
Seeing this, Lockhart felt a long-lost excitement.
It had been years since he had successfully cast a spell. Every time he tried, something unknown would cause the spell to deviate from his intentions. The only spell that seemed to work consistently was the Obliviate.
This bizarre situation left Lockhart puzzled. He had even consulted some experts, but they could only speculate that it was due to a lack of magical practice.
Lockhart, however, didn't believe that. Many people neglected their magical practice, yet only he experienced this strange issue.
Moreover, for Lockhart, increasing his magical practice time was impossible. He was always busy, replying to fan letters, collecting adventure stories, publishing books, and maintaining his popularity. Where would he find the time?
Now, the magical items Ivan had created perfectly solved his problem of being unable to cast spells.
"Still, only three spells?" Lockhart said, a bit disappointed. He felt that as a master of Defense Against the Dark Arts, using only a few dozen spells in the upcoming Duelling Club would be beneath his dignity.
