Chapter 207: The Hero of the Yangtze River, Shi Yangtian
Chapter 207: The Hero of the Yangtze River, Shi Yangtian
Twenty years later, Shi Yangtian was no longer the leader of the Yangtze Alliance, a union of several dozen guilds and docks along the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Instead, he was an elderly fisherman, known as Old Shi, who ferried passengers across the river with his teenage granddaughter.
By this time, Shi Yangtian's son and daughter-in-law, Shi Shuyun's parents, had passed away.
Jiang Feng never expected to encounter this battle, and although he didn't know how Shi Shuyun had ultimately survived, he suspected that this was the very reason why Shi Yangtian had retired from the martial arts world.
Out of respect for the bond formed over the past twenty years, Jiang Feng couldn't just stand by and watch as the Wu Shan Seven Killers slaughtered Old Shi's son and daughter-in-law.
"Your leader has been taken care of," Jiang Feng said with a smile. "Since you're so loyal, you should follow him in death. Why would you even consider the idea of taking revenge and then running away? Your leader must be waiting for you underground with great anticipation!"
The Wu Shan Six Killers, enraged, dared not spare any men to deal with Jiang Feng. Their only thought now was to kill Shi Mingting and his wife quickly and then jump ship to escape.
Just as one of them, wielding a pair of knives, was about to strike Mrs. Shi, Jiang Feng drew his sword.
"Clang!"
With a swift sword cry, Jiang Feng leaped into the fray. The 'Wind and Snow Seventy-Two Styles' were as swift as a raging blizzard, and within a few exchanges, the Wu Shan Six Killers, with their various weapons, were all slain.
"It's been a long time since I've had such an easy battle!" Jiang Feng exclaimed.
Then he sighed again. Jiang Feng's reputation was still not as useful as You Longsheng's. He had barely lifted a finger in the world of 'The Sentimental Swordsman and the Ruthless Sword', and now in this world, the Yin Shan Ghost Gang, the Twelve Constellation Guards, and the Wu Shan Seven Killers had all ended up in group fights!
Fortunately, with Yan Nantian leading the charge against the Yin Shan Ghost Gang, he had only needed to deal with five of the Twelve Constellation Guards during their ambush, and he hadn't had to fight Wei Wuya. As for the Wu Shan Seven Killers...
These few wastes were just making up the numbers, reminding Jiang Feng of the Yellow River Seven Monsters he had encountered at the Ancient Cypress Ferry years ago.
Coincidentally, there had also been six members of the Yellow River Seven Monsters back then!
"Thank you, hero, for your righteous intervention!"
Seeing Jiang Feng dispatch the Wu Shan Six Killers with just a few swift strokes, Shi Mingting was shocked. He felt that the young man's martial arts skills were no less than those of his own father, the renowned hero of the Yangtze River.
"You're welcome," Jiang Feng smiled. "My family's business is along the Yangtze River, and in the future, I may need the Yangtze Alliance to look after my interests. Now that we've met, it's only right that I repay your kindness."
Shi Mingting was at a loss for words, but Mrs. Shi relaxed and laughed softly, "This young master is joking. With your martial arts skills, where would you need the Yangtze Alliance's help?"
Shi Mingting quickly regained his composure and bowed his thanks, "Although you, young master, bestow your kindness without expecting anything in return, I am still deeply grateful. May I ask your esteemed surname and given name?"
"Jiang Feng of Jingzhou," came the reply.
"Jingzhou..." Shi Mingting's eyes lit up as he took in Jiang Feng's appearance, "Could it be the renowned Jiang Feng, the hero of the land?"
"You flatter me," Jiang Feng nodded modestly.
Mrs. Shi's eyes sparkled as she looked at Jiang Feng, causing him to feel helpless.
"By the way, where are you headed, young master Jiang? My wife and I would be happy to escort you," Shi Mingting quickly interjected, remembering Jiang Feng's earlier mention of wanting a boat ride.
"Where are you two going?" Jiang Feng asked.
"My wife and I are on our way to Chongqing Prefecture to visit my father," Shi Mingting replied.
Chongqing Prefecture was located at the confluence of the Jialing River and the Yangtze River, and it was also the headquarters of the Yangtze Alliance.
"Of course, of course!" Shi Mingting nodded eagerly.
There were quite a few boatmen on their large ship, although they were all ordinary people who had hidden in the cabin during the fight. They were now called out to push a smaller boat that was tied to the back of the ship, before turning the ship's head and sailing upstream.
As the ship sailed on, Jiang Feng was invited into the cabin, and he also learned the reason why Shi Mingting and his wife had been besieged.
Mrs. Shi's family was from the Yuan River, and they were on their way back to Chongqing Prefecture from her parents' home after a visit, as they had a child named Shi Shuyun. They never expected to encounter the long-planned ambush by the Wu Shan Seven Killers.
"Why are you here alone, entering Shu, instead of enjoying yourself in Jingzhou, Young Master Jiang?" Shi Mingting asked curiously.
"There was a treacherous servant who betrayed me, but the problem has been resolved," Jiang Feng shook his head. "Since I was already planning to go to Shu, I thought I might as well not go back."
"The Wu family in Shu is in Shunqing Prefecture, upstream of the Jialing River. We'll take you there directly," Shi Mingting offered.
"There's no need for that," Jiang Feng waved his hand. "Mrs. Shi is still recovering. I'll change ships at Chongqing Prefecture."
As they were talking, a shout came from upstream.
"Young Alliance Head!"
"Hurry, hurry!"
The group hurried out of the cabin and saw seven or eight fast boats rushing downstream. At the bow of the leading boat stood an elderly man with gray hair and a robust build.
The old man looked to be in his fifties, full of vigor with a ruddy complexion, but his face was filled with worry. Seeing their large ship and Shi Mingting and his wife at the bow, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
When the two boats were still several dozen feet apart, the old man picked up a plank and smashed it, then leaped into the air, performing the same maneuver as Jiang Feng had done earlier, and landed on the ship in just a few leaps.
"Father!"
"Grandfather!"
"I'm glad you're safe." The old man nodded, then added, "I heard that the Wu Shan Seven Killers were planning to harm you."
At this point, the old man turned to Jiang Feng, his eyes flashing with a serious expression. He cupped his hands and asked, "May I ask who this young hero is?"
"I am Jiang Feng from Jingzhou. Pleased to meet you, Alliance Head Shi," Jiang Feng replied, cupping his hands in return.
He wanted to apologize for neglecting the original character, the elderly Shi, who was also a top-notch martial artist, possibly even stronger than himself and not inferior to Wei Wuya. No wonder, after twenty years, he didn't put Jiang Biehe in his eyes at all.
"Father, we were just besieged by the Wu Shan Seven Killers. If not for Young Master Jiang's help, we might not have made it out alive," Shi Mingting quickly explained.
"I see!" Alliance Head Shi nodded in understanding.
As a top martial artist himself, he had clearly sensed Jiang Feng's powerful martial arts aura when he didn't hold back earlier, so he wasn't surprised at the fate of the Wu Shan Seven Killers.
"Thank you, Young Hero, for your timely assistance. You've saved this old man from suffering the tragedy of burying his children," Alliance Head Shi said with a deep bow.
Jiang Feng smiled and returned the courtesy, helping Alliance Head Shi up. "It was mere coincidence that I happened upon this injustice. Although I may not be able to roam the world and right wrongs like you, Brother, I couldn't just stand by and watch."
Alliance Head Shi straightened up, stroking his beard with a smile. "Jiang Feng, the hero of the land, your reputation precedes you!"
