Chapter 207: Rescue
Chapter 207: Rescue
"Oh, my God, I think we've made a big discovery." Liam, holding the dagger, was so excited that his words were a bit jumbled. After all, he was now holding a relic from the founder of his house, dating back a thousand years.
"So, what do you plan to do with this dagger?" Hermione, having calmed down from her initial excitement, asked Liam an important question.
"This is loot we obtained at great risk to our lives. Of course, we’re keeping it. Aside from its incredible durability, the runes on this dagger could provide us with significant insights." Liam said matter-of-factly.
"Right, you’re correct. After all, it’s our loot, even if it once belonged to the founder of our house. However, if we decide to keep it, we should avoid displaying it where others might see it. Goblins always believe that anything they create belongs to them, and we Muggle-born wizards can’t protect such things from them." Hermione shrugged.
After settling the matter of the loot, the Candlestick Butler arrived with breakfast. As they were eating, Liam suddenly remembered something. "Hey, by the way, you mentioned this morning that you only discovered your Bloodline Legacy when you saw your own blood. Where were you injured, and are you alright?"
Hearing Liam’s words, Hermione’s face turned beet red, and she lowered her head, whispering, "I’m fine, you don’t need to worry about it." She then hurriedly finished her breakfast and rushed back to her room.
Her reaction was surprising, but Liam quickly realized he had made a typical mistake that a single guy would make, due to his lack of experience. Fortunately, the incident didn’t cause too much trouble, and everything returned to normal by noon.
Time flies, like a white horse passing through a crevice.
Before they knew it, Liam and the others had been in this world for almost a week. During this time, Belle and Beast’s relationship had grown significantly, and Beast had changed a lot because of Belle. For instance, he no longer buried his entire head in his soup bowl. Meanwhile, Liam and the others had gained a lot of knowledge from their research on the Curse.
There was a small interlude. After learning that everyone had benefited from Liam and the others’ magic, Beast decided to allow them to study the rose. However, they declined, as they were still struggling to understand the Curses on their own bodies. The rose, being the focal point of all the Curses, was even more complex.
Moreover, the rose was crucial to the lives of everyone in the castle, and Liam and the others didn’t want to risk any adverse consequences due to their rash actions.
Finally, as the week drew to a close, the unchanging situation changed.
After lunch, Liam and Hermione were in the Library, continuing their research on the knowledge they had gained from the Curse, when the door suddenly opened, and Belle and Beast walked in.
After greeting Liam and the others, Beast pulled out a large golden book from a hidden compartment in the Library and said to Belle, "This is another item the Witch left for me. It’s a book that can transport you to a place where you truly belong. But it’s also a punishment, reminding me that there’s no place in the outside world for a creature like me."
"Of course, you’re different from me", Beast said, placing Belle’s hand on the book. "Think of the place you most want to go." Soon, the two of them vanished from the Library.
"A Portkey that can change its destination based on one’s desire?" Hermione looked at the spot where Belle and Beast had disappeared, somewhat surprised. "This seems more advanced than our Portkeys, more like a Magic Artifact with a constant Apparition charm."
"Alright, if I’m not mistaken, the most crucial moment is about to arrive. I think it’s time for us to make our move", Liam said, noticing Hermione was staring blankly at the spot where the two had disappeared.
"Indeed, we should prepare ourselves. After all, this is the first time I’m personally involved in a legendary story", Hermione replied, snapping back to reality and nodding slightly at Liam.
Sure enough, when Belle and Beast returned, they invited Liam and the others to attend the ball. The critical moment had finally arrived.
Liam and the others took off their loose everyday clothes and donned the new robes the wardrobe wife had made for them before heading to the Great Hall. They were there as spectators for the ball, but they might need to act tonight, so it was better to dress in something more practical and tidy.
When the ball began, Liam and the others were amazed. Despite the stark difference in their physical appearances, Belle and Beast looked perfectly harmonious in their formal attire as they danced in the ballroom.
"When will I ever be as beautiful as Belle?" Hermione sighed, watching Belle dance.
"You will be, once you grow up. After all, I see the future you in Belle", Liam reassured her.
"Thanks for the encouragement, but it sounds like something my father would say at his age", Hermione turned to Liam and said.
"Maybe it’s because I’m mature for my age. Ha-ha-ha—" Hermione was really perceptive, so Liam laughed it off to change the subject.
Time flew by quickly, and after the dance, Belle used the Mirror of Erised to see her father suffering and decided to go save him. Beast, out of love, chose to let her leave.
"Belle, I’ll go with you. As a wizard, I might be able to help", Hermione volunteered, following their pre-arranged plan. She and Belle set off on a horse to the town to rescue Belle’s father, while Liam stayed behind to set up defenses in the castle.
As they left the castle, the horse galloped swiftly along the road. As they approached the town, Hermione asked Belle to let her down. She then used the Disillusionment Charm to sneak quietly into the town. When she reached the town center plaza, she saw Belle being locked into a carriage.
"Looks like I’ll have to wait a bit longer", Hermione thought, hiding in a nearby alley. The town was filled with people incited by Gaston, and she couldn’t afford to harm them or use any lethal spells. She couldn’t stop the mob on her own, so she had to wait until they dispersed before taking action.
Soon, the townspeople, armed with weapons and torches, marched out of town along the path. Once everyone had left, the plaza was left empty except for the driver of the asylum wagon.
Now was her chance. After confirming that the town was mostly deserted, Hermione slowly approached the driver.
The driver paced nervously in the empty plaza, staying under the streetlights where it was bright, as the mention of Beast and dark magic by Gaston had genuinely frightened him. He kept glancing around, half-expecting a monster to leap out of the darkness.
Suddenly, he heard faint footsteps approaching from behind, but when he turned around, there was no one there.
"Am I just imagining things?" the driver thought. But as he turned his head back, he heard a female voice behind him say, "Stupefy." Then everything went black.
