Chapter 207: Application
Chapter 207: Application
At 3 pm, Chen Chuan and Lu Ke sent Yu Gang off, and a vehicle was already waiting for them.
The vehicle was arranged by the Iron Chain Gang, and it was thoughtful of them to provide it for Yu Gang without expecting anything in return.
The Iron Chain Gang had made the right choice this time, and many of their members had died in the process. What was crucial was their participation in the plan to eradicate Mo Lan Company, which could be considered a meritorious deed.
The collapse of Mo Lan Company and the downfall of dozens of influential families had left behind a significant amount of assets and market vacancies, making it a juicy piece of meat.
Although the main portion had likely already been divided, only some unappealing leftovers and scraps were given to those who had put in the effort below. Even so, it was enough to fill their stomachs.
As Chen Chuan helped Yu Gang into the vehicle, he asked, "Mr. Yu, may I ask, are there many people who know this throwing technique?"
Yu Gang replied, "Actually, if you want to practice, more or less all fighters will know a little bit, but there aren't many with a proper lineage.
My throwing technique was also learned from an elderly friend who has already passed away. He had a proper lineage, so the techniques for exerting force, using medication, and other details are all documented in a book.
If you want to find someone through the throwing technique and have the means, I suggest you go to the Investigation Bureau. They have the most comprehensive archives, and they record the appearances and specialties of fighters who have shown themselves in public."
Chen Chuan thanked him, "Thank you, Mr. Yu."
Yu Gang said, "You are talented, and your will is firm. If the troubles you face now do not hinder your cultivation, you can set them aside for now. There will always be opportunities to resolve them in the future."
Chen Chuan nodded.
After helping Yu Gang settle into the vehicle, Lu Ke climbed down and asked, "Chen, I heard from Master that you're definitely going to Central City, right?"
Chen Chuan replied affirmatively, "I will go."
Lu Ke extended his hand, excitedly saying, "That's great! Chen, we'll take the lead, and we'll see you in Central City later!"
Chen Chuan patted his hand and smiled, "Okay, see you in Central City."
After bidding farewell, Lu Ke returned to the vehicle, which soon started moving. Lu Ke waved through the rear windshield, and Chen Chuan waved back. Standing at the intersection, he watched as the vehicle carrying the two gradually drove away.
Once the vehicle was out of sight, Chen Chuan returned to the small playground in front of the Fist House. The place was now empty, but as he walked there, the scenes from a year ago seemed as vivid and fresh as if they had happened just yesterday. A flock of birds flew overhead, leaving a fluttering sound in their wake.
He glanced at the azure sky above the building, went to the side to retrieve his vehicle, and rode it back home.
After about ten minutes, he arrived home. With the new semester just a few days away, he organized and packed the things he needed.
The following days were uneventful, but the news broadcasts were lively, mostly covering the various powers connected to Mo Lan Company. Initially, only the company itself was involved, but now even some officials from the Government Hall were implicated, indicating that the reckoning had reached its final stage.
On the 31st, Chen Chuan arrived at school with his luggage. As he entered, many students who had already arrived greeted him enthusiastically.
Chen Chuan politely responded to each greeting until he reached the dormitory building, where the atmosphere gradually returned to normal. However, students still occasionally called out to him from a distance.
There was no way around it; he had single-handedly taken down the entire Mutual Aid Society and emerged unscathed from the Adjudication Court. In the hearts of the younger students, there was nothing more worthy of admiration. What's more, most of them had participated in the events, and they would remember and cherish these experiences for life.
After these days of brewing and fermenting, even Chen Chuan himself was unaware of the extent of his fame. His reputation had reached a height that no student in the history of Wu Yi Academy had ever achieved. Even the teachers, upon seeing his name, would pause to reflect seriously.
When he went to the dormitory manager to register, the manager handed him a registration form and said with a smile, "How does it feel to be a celebrity? It's not easy, is it?"
Chen Chuan took the form and said, "It's not easy, but it's no big deal. Once school starts, they won't have the time to think too much."
The dormitory manager agreed, "You're right. They're just too idle now, filled with restlessness with no outlet. Once school starts and the various training programs kick in, I guarantee they'll fall asleep as soon as they hit the bed, with no energy left to think too much."
Chen Chuan took a pen and started filling out the form, saying, "It seems like there are more students this year than usual."
The dormitory manager said, "There are a few more every year; it's a trend. But I think there will be even more next year." As he spoke, he gave Chen Chuan a meaningful look.
Chen Chuan understood what he meant. After the Old Factory incident, it wasn't just the loss of thirty-seven recommended students; even the Academic Council and a large number of sponsors were arrested. The entire landscape had changed.
This was an opportune moment to fill the void. Past compromises, constraints, and management could be ignored under the special circumstances and situation. It was a chance to recruit more students.
After completing the registration form, Chen Chuan handed it back to the dormitory manager, who took it and said, "I've been the dormitory manager for a few years now, and I should be happy to see more students moving in. After all, the more students I manage, the more work I have, right? But then I think about it, and I realize my workload has increased as well. Ah, the burden is heavier now."
"Chen Chuan smiled and said, "The teachers should request a pay raise."
"I like hearing that, but unfortunately, there's an age limit for being a principal. By the time you become one, I'll probably be retiring." The dormitory supervisor sighed theatrically.
Chen Chuan smiled and said, "It's alright. We can increase your retirement benefits when the time comes."
"Alright, I'll remember that," the supervisor replied.
After chatting with the supervisor, Chen Chuan left the registration area, carrying his suitcase and entering the elevator. When he reached the seventh floor, he exited the elevator and saw Zhuang Zhi and the others in the public training area. Noticing their gaze, he nodded and headed towards the corridor.
Zhuang Zhi and the others had mixed emotions, and they also felt a bit lost.
The Mutual Aid Society seemed to have disappeared overnight, and these individuals were now free from its constraints. They had enjoyed the benefits the society provided, but now they didn't have to fulfill the previous agreements.
On the surface, it seemed like they had gained an advantage and should be grateful to Chen Chuan. However, the society's tarnished reputation meant that anyone who had ever been a member would be questioned by the school's management. Although they wouldn't face any consequences, their reputation within the school would be severely damaged, and this experience would forever be a stain on their records.
They were now trying to find ways to clear their names, and someone suggested joining the Zealous Heart Society.
The Zealous Heart Society was the first to come out in support of Chen Chuan when the Mutual Aid Society and Mo Lan Corporation were still in power. Their unwavering support made them highly respected among the student body.
Unfortunately, the Zealous Heart Society was selective in its members, and they didn't have a favorable view of those who had willingly joined the Mutual Aid Society. As a result, they were discussing forming their own society to stick together. It seemed like their roles had reversed.
After entering his room, Chen Chuan placed his suitcase by the wall and looked around at the unchanged decor. He remembered that just last year, he had walked in the same way, but now everything was different.
He approached the floor-to-ceiling window and gazed down at Spring Autumn Lake.
Tomorrow would be a brand new day.
After standing for a while, he returned to unpack his belongings from the suitcase and tidied up briefly before beginning his daily martial arts training.
On the first day of the new semester at Wu Yi University, Cheng Zitong approached Chen Chuan after the freshmen's opening ceremony and placed a stack of documents on the desk.
"Little Chuan, take a look at this," Cheng Zitong said.
Chen Chuan picked up the documents and flipped through them. They listed his experiences at Wu Yi Academy, including the missions he had undertaken, evaluations from the three departments, and certifications for his Weapon Permit and Unlimited Defense Permit. The documents were filled with content, written densely.
He hadn't realized that he had accomplished so much in just one year.
Cheng Zitong said, "This resume looks great, but you're missing the Armor Permit. Otherwise, it would be even better."
Chen Chuan looked up and said, "Teacher, it's not impossible to obtain."
Cheng Zitong glanced at him and smiled, "It seems like you've been up to something these past few days. Well, I'll be waiting for your good news. We can add it to this resume later, but you can fill out this application form first. I'll submit it now so that the principal can sign it, and then we'll submit the materials afterward."
Chen Chuan nodded. The national mobilization mission was classified, and he couldn't disclose any information during the operation. Especially since the mission wasn't officially over yet, he couldn't discuss it with Cheng Zitong, but he could do so afterward and even add it to his resume.
He could fill out the application form first and have the school's higher-ups approve it. Then, before submitting it to the main campus, he could update his resume and submit them together.
Chen Chuan carefully filled out the form, checked it, signed it, and stamped it with his private seal before handing it to Cheng Zitong. Cheng Zitong reviewed it, coughed, and took a pen to solemnly write his name in the 'Instructor' field.
He then picked up the form again, looked at it, and sighed, "I never thought that among the students going to Central City, I'd be able to write my name, Cheng Zitong, as the instructor."
He smiled and said to Chen Chuan, "I'm self-aware, and I know my limitations as an instructor. This time, I can show my face thanks to you, Little Chuan."
Chen Chuan sincerely replied, "There wouldn't be a teacher without the student."
This was his heartfelt truth. Cheng Zitong was willing to let go and supported his ideas. If it had been another teacher who imposed restrictions, such as disagreeing with his choices in martial techniques, his future path would have been uncertain.
Cheng Zitong looked at him and nodded, "The best decision I made as an instructor was to become your teacher." He then added with a hint of regret, "It's just a pity that Old He's name can't be written here."
Chen Chuan thought for a moment and said, "I believe Old He doesn't need this."
"Yes, Old He is unfettered and doesn't care about such things. If Shen Zheng hadn't gotten into trouble, his name would also be on this form."
As Cheng Zitong mentioned Shen Zheng, Chen Chuan said, "Teacher, that day in the old factory area, I learned something from Wei Jun. On the day Shen Zheng was framed, his missing sister was found by the Mutual Aid Society, and they took her to Central City."
