Chapter 206: Finally Leaving Xiuyu Valley with a Clear Conscience
Chapter 206: Finally Leaving Xiuyu Valley with a Clear Conscience
Early the next morning, Lianxing showed no signs of discomfort and was in good spirits, so Jiang Feng prepared to bid farewell.
Yao Yue sent him off to the entrance of Xiuyugu Valley.
For some reason, Jiang Feng felt that Yao Yue seemed a bit distracted, his gaze deep and somewhat ethereal.
"Rest assured, Lianxing is doing well, which indicates that yesterday's surgery went very smoothly. With the medicinal effects of the ointment and her own recovery ability, she will definitely be fine in three to five months."
Yao Yue's state of mind made Jiang Feng a little anxious. Thinking of the original plot, he became worried that Yao Yue would take advantage of him right there and then. So, he quickly changed the subject to Lianxing.
Compared to the original story, with Lianxing's strong opposition, and with Yao Yue not having turned dark yet and feeling somewhat guilty towards his sister, he probably wouldn't go that far, right?
Yao Yue snapped out of his trance, his gaze towards Jiang Feng filled with a myriad of emotions—annoyance, reproach, gratitude, admiration, a hint of affection, and a hint of possessiveness...
Of course, Jiang Feng couldn't decipher the complex emotions in Yao Yue's eyes, but he clearly sensed that Yao Yue was different from the day before.
And there could only be one explanation for that!
"I'm leaving. It's enough to see me off here," Jiang Feng said hastily. "You should spend more time with your sister. She needs your company right now."
As his words trailed off, Jiang Feng smiled and bowed to Yao Yue before turning and retreating into the forest with light, quick steps.
Seeing Jiang Feng's slightly flustered departure, Yao Yue felt both annoyed and amused. "Am I that scary? When have I ever given you the cold shoulder?"
But of course, Jiang Feng couldn't hear him.
Yao Yue stood outside the forest for a while longer before turning back into the valley, his low murmur lingering in the air, "Thank you, I understand a lot of things now, but..."
"I won't let you go to Lianxing!"
...
Jiang Feng weaved through the trees, calming his racing heart.
The way Yao Yue had looked at him earlier had truly startled him—that gaze filled with such complex emotions, Jiang Feng was certain even Lin Xian'er couldn't have pulled off such a performance.
He had no idea how the plot would unfold from here on out.
What if Yao Yue really figured things out and directly dragged him into Xiuyugu Valley to do God-knows-what?
"I need to find Big Brother quickly and stick by his side to calm my nerves. At least then I won't have to worry about domestic violence." Jiang Feng stroked his chin, blinking, "Hey, why did I bring up domestic violence?"
Jiang Feng headed south, swiftly navigating through the forest. Soon, he left Shennongjia Forest behind and arrived at the banks of the Yangtze River.
However, this place was already west of Yichang. Looming over the river were steep cliffs, with birds circling above and monkeys swinging from tree to tree.
"This should be somewhere near the Three Gorges," Jiang Feng mused, looking left and right. The path westward would be difficult from here on out. It would be better to head east towards Yichang and find a boat.
But before he could make a move, faint sounds of fighting reached his ears from the distance.
"Oh ho? Someone's fighting!"
Jiang Feng's eyes lit up as he looked westward. He spotted a large boat drifting downstream with a smaller boat alongside it. On the larger vessel, figures leaped and darted, blades flashing in the sunlight, clearly indicating an interesting spectacle.
"Is it a highway robbery or a feud between sects?"
Jiang Feng was no longer in a hurry. Seeing that the large boat was closer to the northern shore and drifting in his direction with the current, he knew it wouldn't be long before it reached him.
With a convenient ride presenting itself, he wouldn't have to travel to Yichang on foot.
"This lady is quite something. Let's keep her for later so we brothers can have some fun together!"
"Witch Mountain's Seven Killers, may your ancestors be damned!" A coarse voice shouted sternly, "Meiniang, I'll hold them off. You go first!"
"Just you? We'll take you all down!"
Standing on high ground, Jiang Feng could see clearly. On the deck of the large boat, a man and a woman were being surrounded by six burly men. The man wielded a blade, creating a dazzling array of spinning knives, protecting the woman beside him who was holding an infant.
The woman, with a baby in one arm and a whip-like weapon in the other, blocked the incoming attacks. However, it was clear that she hadn't fully recovered yet, as her face was covered in sweat and she was struggling to hold off her attackers.
"Witch Mountain's Seven Killers, just you wait! My father will definitely flay and draw out your tendons!"
"We'll wait. After we kill you and take our revenge, we'll head downstream to the pleasure houses of Jiangnan. Let's see if your father can find us then! Hahahaha..."
Standing on the riverbank, Jiang Feng clearly heard the voices carried by the wind, and a gleam flashed in his eyes.
"No way? Even this I stumble upon? Is this too much of a coincidence?"
Seeing that the large boat had drifted to a section of the river not far from him, Jiang Feng sighed and extinguished his curiosity. "Out of respect for the care shown to me twenty years later, I can't continue to watch this unfold."
Jiang Feng broke three branches from a tree, then leaped from the not-so-high cliff, soaring over the shoreline and out onto the Yangtze River.
He glided like a bird, and just as he was about to land on the water, he threw down one of the branches.
In the next moment, Jiang Feng tapped on the branch, and his body soared forward once more. He repeated this three times, and soon he had landed on the gunwale of the large boat.
"Pardon the interruption. May I ask who the captain of this vessel is? Could I trouble you for a ride?" Jiang Feng said with a smile.
Everyone turned abruptly, only to see a young man in white standing on the gunwale. He had a face like a crowned jade, eyes like shining stars, graceful manners, and an air of elegance. He stood there like a graceful pine tree in the wind.
They were in the middle of the river, in a remote stretch, and there wasn't another boat in sight. How had this person gotten onboard?
"Who are you?" asked a man holding a ghost-faced battle axe.
"I am the captain!" said the man in the middle of the group. "I am Shi Mingting, son of Shi Yangtian. These men are the Witch Mountain's Seven Killers. Their former leader was a wicked man, killed by my father. That's why they are attacking my wife and me. I beg of you, sir, to lend us a hand. I would be eternally grateful."
Shi Mingting's direct plea for help showed that he didn't bother with pretenses or caution, asking the stranger to be careful, that it was none of his business, or that he should leave. This was because Jiang Feng's ability to get onboard already spoke volumes about his strength.
And in the end, he only expressed his gratitude without making any promises of grand rewards, but by mentioning his father's name, he showed a bit of tact.
Jiang Feng nodded. The young man before him, Shi Mingting, had good manners and breeding, befitting the son of Shi Yangtian.
Additionally, his father, Shi Yangtian, would, in twenty years, accept a request from the esteemed Master Sikong of Emei to watch over Xiao Yu'er on his journey. He would show disdain towards the skilled fighters of the Jiang clan and would be a man of strong character and formidable martial arts skills.
