Chapter 205: Unexpected Discovery
Chapter 205: Unexpected Discovery
"Are you the Wizard who said you could alleviate our suffering?" Liam was searching for furniture in a corridor adorned with oil paintings and sculptures when a female voice suddenly rang out from above.
"Well, if there isn't another male wizard in the castle, then it must be me", Liam replied, looking up to follow the voice. He found a white feather duster, resembling a bird, fluttering in the air.
It seemed the Witch who cast the Curse was quite creative, at least in transforming the feather duster into a bird. Liam had never imagined such an idea. With that thought, he quickly refocused and said, "Actually, we've just developed a spell to alleviate the magic, but we need someone to test it out."
"Then please try it on me", the feather duster flew up to Liam and said. "I feel myself getting stiffer, and I'm afraid I might fall from the sky soon."
"Alright, but the spell isn't fully developed yet, so I hope you can forgive me", Liam said. He then pulled out his wand and drew silver runic inscriptions in the air, reciting the ancient Viking spell, "Curse Alleviation", before the runes dissipated.
As the final syllable faded, the runic inscriptions in the air transformed into silver light points that sank into the feather duster. The duster paused mid-air and then fell to the ground with a thud.
My spell should work, Liam thought, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. Fortunately, the feather duster soon flapped its wings and flew back up, appearing more agile than before.
"Ah, I can feel myself becoming much lighter. Thank you so much. Wait a moment, I'll go call the others over", the feather duster said, flying down the corridor.
Soon, the corridor was filled with a crowd of furniture, creating a chaotic scene that left Liam feeling a bit overwhelmed. Thankfully, the candlestick butler had a lot of authority. He led Liam to the Great Hall and organized the furniture into a queue to receive treatment one by one.
After alleviating the Curse on about seven or eight pieces of furniture, Hermione came down from upstairs to join the effort.
"I see you and Belle were having a good chat. Why did you come over?" Liam asked curiously.
"Well, I thought you might need some help. Besides, Belle is going to see the Beast. I need to give them some private time", Hermione replied.
They continued working until the sun set, and they had alleviated the Curse on hundreds of pieces of furniture in the castle. By the time they finished, both Liam and Hermione's voices were hoarse.
"I'm truly sorry for that. Please have some throat-soothing drink we've prepared for you", the candlestick butler said after the magic was complete. They were in the Great Hall, where they had arrived early, and the table was empty.
As they sat down, the candlestick butler had a cup of mint tea brought to them. While they were sipping their tea, Belle and the Beast entered the Great Hall, discussing something from a book.
"Oh, our new guests. I apologize for not thanking you earlier. Let's start the meal now", the Beast said, sitting in his place at the head of the table and looking at Liam and Hermione. When he turned his gaze to Hermione's face, he was a bit surprised, having not looked closely at them before. Seeing a girl who looked so much like Belle naturally startled him.
"If I didn’t know you were from far away, I would have thought she was Belle's sister", Beast said with a laugh, lightening the mood at the table.
"Actually, we do resemble sisters in many ways, at least when it comes to our love for reading", Belle said, raising an eyebrow.
Liam found this statement quite true, especially considering how both of them would read a book while eating. It felt as if the universe’s will had orchestrated this coincidence.
Of course, Beast’s face buried in the soup bowl, with half of it covered in borscht, was a bit ungraceful. But it had to be admitted that the castle’s servants were no less skilled in cooking than the House-Elves at Hogwarts.
After returning to their room, Liam and Belle spent some time studying the strange runes they had encountered earlier before going to bed. The next morning, Liam was once again woken up by Hermione’s early morning knock.
"What is it this time? If this keeps up, I’ll definitely end up with a nervous breakdown", Liam muttered as he quickly got ready and opened the door. Hermione stood outside, her face full of panic, looking as if she was about to burst into tears at any moment.
"What happened? You look really upset", Liam said, walking to the living room table. He picked up a set of teacups from the colorful porcelain plate, poured a cup of black tea, and gestured for Hermione to sit down. "Don’t be nervous, have some tea and tell me what’s wrong."
Hermione sat down, holding the teacup with both hands, and after calming down a bit, she spoke in a slightly trembling voice, "This morning, I suddenly realized I could control my blood. A lot of knowledge about Blood Magic flooded my mind. Have I been possessed by the Blood Deity from that temple?"
To prove her point, she bit her finger, and indeed, a drop of blood bead floated in the air, circling around her finger. "See? I don’t need any magic; I can command my blood with my mind."
It seemed this was the final gift from the souls of those killed by the Blood Deity, Liam thought. He then made a small cut on his own finger.
Sure enough, a drop of blood bead emerged, and Liam found his mind filled with a wealth of knowledge about Blood Magic. Soon, he too could make the blood bead circle his finger.
"What is this?" Hermione asked, her eyes wide with amazement.
"This is a gift of magic, a gift that can be passed down through bloodlines", Liam explained, giving a brief overview of the victims in the temple and their relationship with the Blood Deity, as well as how he avenged them and received this gift.
"In essence, those two drops of blood contain only a portion of the knowledge related to the Blood Deity. The truly valuable part is the power bestowed upon us by the tens of thousands of liberated souls. Because they were connected to the Blood Deity, this power naturally involves the manipulation of blood, granting us a spell-like ability, much like many magical creatures."
"The most powerful aspect of this gift is that, due to the overall strength of the givers breaking a certain threshold, this power is imprinted in our bloodlines and can be passed down through generations."
"Wait, you mean it can be passed down through generations?" Hermione suddenly perked up. "Isn’t that a lot like the Pure-blood Wizards’ system?"
