Chapter 205: Hermione's Intuition
Chapter 205: Hermione's Intuition
"This is truly surprising."
Madame Pomfrey, taken aback by Hagrid's request to be discharged, shot a bewildered glance at Kyle, who had accompanied Hagrid to the hospital wing. Initially, she had only asked for Kyle's help in encouraging Hagrid to cheer up. Yet, she never expected that he would be so effective.
It was just a matter of preparing a potion, but Hagrid, who had been stubborn and deaf to all words earlier, was now insisting on being discharged!
The results were a bit too good...
"Poppy, please?" Hagrid asked again, seeing her silence. "The Forbidden Forest needs someone to guard it. I need to get back there as soon as possible."
"You may be discharged, but I need to perform one more checkup," Madame Pomfrey said firmly.
Her stance was resolute. Although she knew that the potion sent by Dumbledore had excellent effects, and with Hagrid's physique, there would be no problem even if he were discharged now, the checkup was still necessary.
It was a standard procedure for everyone.
She put down the large wooden bucket in her hand and turned to prepare other things.
"You might not believe it, but I've always been afraid of her," Hagrid whispered. "It was like this over a decade ago. My legs would shake whenever I came here, and I just couldn't control myself."
"I understand..." Kyle replied with a smile.
When he was younger, he used to help Newt feed magical creatures their potions, and they were afraid too.
Even now, after so many years, a Crup would still tuck its tail between its legs and run away at the sight of him.
Madame Pomfrey's examination was not cumbersome, and it was soon completed.
By the time they left the hospital wing, it was already close to noon.
Kyle invited Hagrid to join him for lunch in the Great Hall, but Hagrid declined.
"I need to go back and check on Fang," he said. "After such a long time, Fang must be worried sick."
The two bid farewell in the courtyard, and Kyle returned to the castle.
However, this time, the young witches and wizards' topic of conversation had shifted from the previous speculations to Quidditch.
Due to yesterday's events, Ravenclaw and Slytherin needed to replay their match today.
What surprised Kyle was that by the time he went to see Hagrid, the match had already ended.
"Damn, wasn't the rematch supposed to be in the afternoon?!'' Kyle was flabbergasted. If he had known, he... well, even if he had known, he would still have visited Hagrid first.
"Kyle, did you see Hagrid?"
At that moment, Harry suddenly ran over with Hermione and Ron by his side.
"We just went to his hut to look for him, but it was Professor Sprout there instead," Harry explained.
"It was terrifying..." Ron added with a bitter face. "She scolded us and sent us back."
"You must know what happened. Can you tell us?" Hermione pushed Ron aside and looked at Kyle with a serious expression.
"Why do you say that?" Kyle asked.
"Because I noticed that you didn't go to watch the Quidditch match," Hermione said, tilting her head up and speaking confidently. "Harry told me that as a member of the team, it's impossible to miss any match. So, if you didn't go to watch, it must mean that you had something more important to do."
"I think... it's probably related to what happened yesterday and to Hagrid!" Kyle mused, pursing his lips. He had to admit that Hermione was indeed very smart, and her speculation was very close to the truth.
As for the other two...
Harry could only nod repeatedly, while Ron stood there looking completely lost, as if he hadn't understood a word.
The gap between them was really too big. How did these three become friends...
"Hagrid..."
"He's fine. You're overthinking things.
"I have no idea, maybe she just happened to pass by and lent a helping hand," Kyle shrugged. "Or you can always ask Hagrid about it, he should be back in his hut by now."
Well, sometimes being too smart was indeed annoying.
It was much easier with Harry and Ron; they believed whatever they were told, which was quite hassle-free.
"Hagrid's back?" Hermione was a little surprised... This wasn't what she had expected.
She had assumed that Hagrid had gone to the hospital wing because he was injured, but if that were the case, Madam Pomfrey wouldn't have let him leave so soon.
"Yeah, he just left," Kyle nodded. "By the way, what was the result of the match?"
"Ravenclaw won!" Harry suddenly became enthusiastic when talking about this, his eyes shining, "Their Seeker is amazing! She caught the Golden Snitch when Ravenclaw was a hundred points behind!"
"It's a pity you weren't there," Ron also said excitedly, "The Slytherins' expressions were hilarious, they actually lost to the weakest team, and Malfoy's face turned green."
"Yeah, I can imagine," Kyle laughed.
After chatting for a while longer, Harry pulled Ron away from the castle to find Hagrid.
But Hermione didn't leave; she continued to follow Kyle, looking at him with a strange expression.
"Aren't you worried that Hagrid might let something slip?" Hermione suddenly asked.
She always felt that Kyle hadn't been entirely truthful just now.
"Worried about what... We really were just helping out," Kyle shrugged nonchalantly.
He only needed to ensure that he didn't cause any problems; what Hagrid did was none of his business.
Besides, he couldn't keep Harry from visiting Hagrid forever.
Hermione frowned and continued to stare at him.
"Harry and Ron have been gone for so long, aren't you going to join them?"
Kyle felt uncomfortable under Hermione's intense gaze. To quickly get rid of her, he took out a stack of Chocolate Frog cards from his pocket and handed them to her.
"By the way, to thank Harry for telling me about the match result, can you help me give these to him? I remember he's collecting these cards."
Just as Hermione was about to say something, her eyes fell on a line of words written on the outermost card.
"...with his partner, Nicolas Flamel, in effective alchemy!"
Nicolas Flamel... Alchemy...
"I know now! I know who Nicolas Flamel is!" Hermione jumped up and ran upstairs towards the Gryffindor common room.
Kyle stood there, looking at the stack of cards that he hadn't managed to give away, and put them back into his pocket.
Thanks to Dumbledore, the matter was resolved one way or another, and at least Hermione was gone for now.
