Chapter 204: The Super Intern
Chapter 204: The Super Intern
Upon their return to Konoha, Mu Yue first took her disciples back to the Hokage Building to report their mission.
"We encountered three Cloud Ninja during this mission, which took an unexpected turn," Mu Yue explained to the registering ninja.
The last time they had dealt with something of this magnitude, they had gone directly to Hiruzen Sarutobi because of its far-reaching implications. This time, with only three Chunin-level opponents and no Jonin, there was no need to involve the Hokage himself.
"Another unexpected incident?" The registering ninja exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise.
He recalled how Mu Yue's team had taken on a C-rank mission not long ago, only for it to escalate into an A-rank one. And now, to have another anomaly occur was more than a little unfortunate.
He had barely managed to complete two C-rank missions, and both had unexpected twists. He refrained from passing judgment.
Mu Yue handed over the scrolls containing the sealed bodies of the three Cloud Ninja to the registering ninja and briefly described their encounter, including the strength of the ninja they had faced.
"Let's classify it as a B-rank mission for now," the registering ninja said after a moment's thought. "I'll have these bodies examined, and we can determine the appropriate rewards afterward."
Mu Yue nodded in agreement; she wasn't particularly concerned about the rewards, as the cultivation elixirs in the system store were quite affordable.
Ever since she began cultivating, Mu Yue made sure that each of her disciples consumed a cultivation elixir once every half month to enhance their training.
"Look, we can easily handle A-rank and B-rank missions now," Kakashi said to the registering ninja. "Can you assign us some C-rank or higher missions from now on?"
"Are you trying to get me fired?" The registering ninja retorted, exasperated.
"The fact that you, an intern who isn't even a Genin yet, are allowed to take on C-rank missions is already a special privilege granted by the Third Hokage. Other interns are only allowed to take on D-rank missions, so don't even think about anything more advanced," he added bluntly.
Rules were rules, and even if Mu Yue's class truly had the capability to complete B-rank missions, he wouldn't be able to assign them such tasks. If something went wrong, he would be held responsible, and there would be no recognition for their success.
Smack! Mu Yue apologized to the registering ninja and then turned to give Kakashi a light tap on the head.
"Stop causing trouble for others," she said. "It's good to be doing C-rank missions for now. We haven't even completed a single one yet, so let's not waste the opportunity the Third Hokage has given us."
Kakashi fell silent; indeed, they hadn't technically completed a single C-rank mission yet, as one had escalated to an A-rank and the other to a B-rank.
Kakashi and Might Guy were probably the only ones with a record of completing an A-rank mission before even graduating; it was certainly an unprecedented feat.
A-rank missions were rarely assigned, even to someone like Kakashi. Opportunities like that were scarce.
"Hehe, I just don't want us to waste Teacher Mu Yue's abilities on such low-level missions," Kakashi said, feigning concern for Mu Yue's prowess.
Smack! Mu Yue's actions spoke louder than words.
As they exited the Hokage Building, Mu Yue divided the money equally among her disciples. "You're dismissed for today. Take the day off to rest. We'll resume training tomorrow as usual. However, if any of you can't bear to stay idle, you can head to the forest for some practice. I'll join you there later."
The three disciples nodded in understanding. Kakashi had been planning to head home to rest, as training with Mu Yue could be quite exhausting. They were practicing almost every day, even during their downtime on missions.
However, seeing the direction that Might Guy and Kakashi were heading, Kakashi ultimately decided to join them in the Southern Forest for training. If Kakashi was pushing himself, he had no excuse to slack off.
But if Might Guy and Kakashi were going to train harder, Obito wouldn't be able to sit still, especially since Kakashi was his target for a challenge in the near future. Obito had no intention of falling behind.
"Haha, everyone's so passionate today! Youth is all about diligent training!" Might Guy laughed, giving them a thumbs up. As expected of his good friend, his work ethic was almost on par with his own.
Obito: ...
Kakashi: ...
On the other side, Mu Yue reviewed the rewards from the mission.
[Disciple Might Guy worked hard and completed the assigned task, gaining a growth reward of +200 Chakra, with an additional bonus of +100 Chakra for being accompanied by the teacher]
[Disciple Uchiha Obito worked hard and completed the assigned task, gaining a growth reward of +200 Chakra, with an additional bonus of +100 Chakra for being accompanied by the teacher]
[Disciple Hatake Kakashi worked hard and completed the assigned task, gaining a growth reward of +200 Chakra, with an additional bonus of +100 Chakra for being accompanied by the teacher]
The total Chakra reward for this mission was 900 points, honestly much more than Mu Yue had expected. He had thought it would be around 400 to 500 points at most.
After all, the enemies they faced this time were far weaker than the elite Cloud Ninja squad they had encountered previously, which included two Jonin-level opponents, one of whom even possessed a bloodline limit.
The total reward for the previous mission was only about 1,350 Chakra points, just 450 points more than this one.
Undoubtedly, if the rewards were based on the strength of their opponents, the difference shouldn't have been so significant.
Mu Yue furrowed his brows in thought, considering a possibility.
During the previous mission, although the enemies were strong, Mu Yue himself had dealt with most of them, and his disciples had only truly fought and defeated two of the ninja on their own.
This time, although they didn't face any Jonin and only encountered three Chunin, all the enemies were dealt with by his disciples, while Mu Yue merely protected them from the shadows.
"The greater the role my disciples play in a mission, the higher the reward?" Mu Yue speculated.
If that was the case, even if he took on an S-rank mission, the rewards wouldn't be overly extravagant. In such high-level missions, his disciples would inevitably become his accessories, with Mu Yue doing most of the fighting.
Mu Yue then checked his current status.
[Name: Mu Yue]
[Chakra: 38,300]
The increase was quite satisfactory, nearing the 40,000 mark. According to Xiao Ka's calculations before the data update, this amounted to fifteen and a third small cards, bringing him one step closer to his goal of 50,000 Chakra.
Mu Yue returned to his home in the main city. When he reached the street where his house was located, he didn't go in immediately. Instead, he activated his Byakugan to check on Minato's house, only to find that he wasn't home.
At his doorstep, Mu Yue found a letter protected by a sealing technique.
After releasing the seal, he took out the letter and saw that it was from Minato. As he walked into the house, he opened the envelope and began to read its contents.
