Chapter 204 - Obtaining Seeds
Chapter 204 - Obtaining Seeds
Lu Chen's figure floated like a will-o'-the-wisp as he approached a massive stone mountain.
He lowered his head to examine the invitation in his hand, adorned with intricate talismans. The talismans illuminated, shining brightest near the center, indicating the location of the stone mountain.
An arrow also pointed towards the mountain, signifying the final venue for the Treasure Exchange Assembly.
The mountain's exterior appeared desolate, but upon probing with his spiritual sense, he could discern hidden intricacies within.
Lu Chen observed his surroundings cautiously before taking measured steps towards the mountain.
He looked different from usual, wearing a bronze mask he had acquired from a rogue cultivator's stall, capable of disguising his appearance and blocking spiritual sense to a certain degree.
At the front of the mountain, a tall stone door was set into a vertical cliff face. Two Late Qi Refining cultivators stood guard, smiling and welcoming the participating cultivators warmly.
Lu Chen observed them discreetly before approaching. After verifying the authenticity of his invitation and his cultivation level, they respectfully ushered him through the stone door.
Moments later, he found himself at the base of the stone mountain.
Within was a spacious hall, hidden deep in the mountain's belly and protected by a powerful array.
Over a hundred cultivators had already gathered, as Lu Chen scanned the room briefly.
Among them, most were at the advanced or peak of Qi Refining, with more than thirty at the early Foundation Establishment stage and about ten at the middle Foundation Establishment stage. Of these ten, two had unfathomable spiritual power, possibly at the late Foundation Establishment stage.
Of course, there could also be cultivators deliberately hiding their true strength, just like Lu Chen, who possessed the Third Grade Invisibility Cloak, capable of concealing his presence and spiritual power.
However, since he intended to exchange for a Fifth Grade Holy Infant Fruit spirit herb, he chose not to conceal his cultivation level.
After all, if a cultivator publicly at the Qi Refining stage were to obtain a Fifth Grade spirit herb, it might attract unwanted trouble and invite disaster.
Lu Chen found a stone chair and sat down, closing his eyes to rest and await the commencement of the assembly.
Along the way, he had also used his updated Inner Sect disciple identity badge to sense his surroundings. He vaguely sensed the presence of five others with familiar auras among the cultivators, dispelling any remaining wariness he had.
"This updated identity badge is truly extraordinary. It can detect the presence of fellow sect members nearby, although it can't pinpoint their exact locations. Nonetheless, it's reassuring to know I have so many fellow disciples here."
"If any unforeseen circumstances arise, I can call out for help, and with five fellow disciples, anyone who dares to cause trouble will surely think twice."
Lu Chen once again marveled at the might of his sect, silently acknowledging its strength.
After another half an hour or so, all the cultivators had arrived.
A plump cultivator climbed onto the platform in the hall.
He cleared his throat, and the crowd below quickly quieted down.
"Welcome, fellow cultivators, for traveling from far and wide to attend the Treasure Exchange Assembly that I host."
"I shall briefly introduce the rules to prevent any unnecessary misunderstandings."
"Each cultivator may take the stage to display their treasures and state their desired treasure grade and type for exchange with the audience."
"After the initial round of displays, we will move on to a free exchange phase, where you are free to communicate, negotiate, and even involve third-party cultivators to facilitate mutually beneficial trades."
"Of course, the most important rule is that there must be no coercion or forced trades. Both parties must be willing participants."
"If anyone disregards our rules and forces another to exchange treasures against their will, they disrespect our Treasure Pavilion, and we will not hesitate to intervene."
"This hall is protected by a formidable array, and I have friends at the Foundation Establishment stage standing by. Think twice before causing any trouble."
After explaining the rules, the plump cultivator descended from the platform, leaving the stage open for the participants.
Soon, cultivators rushed to the stage, kicking off the assembly with enthusiasm.
Lu Chen sat quietly in a corner, observing the proceedings on and off the stage.
As more cultivators took the stage, an array of treasures was presented, including some Third and Fourth Grade treasures that made Lu Chen's mouth water.
While third-grade spirit seeds appeared twice, they were merely common seeds that could be easily obtained from the Agricultural God Temple in exchange for some spirit stones, as Lu Chen recalled from the jade catalog.
Demon beast eggs and baby beasts were even harder to come by. Only one cultivator displayed a second-grade baby demon beast, while several complete bodies of third-grade demon beasts sparked a slight interest in Lu Chen.
As more cultivators took the stage, only a handful of Foundation Establishment cultivators remained who had not yet presented their treasures.
A thin cultivator flew onto the stage and took out a bizarre spirit seed from his storage bag.
The spirit seed resembled an embryo, seemingly containing a curled-up infant. The infant was grayish-black, shriveled, and diminutive, remaining still within the seed.
Just as Lu Chen leaned forward for a better view, the infant inside the seed shifted, its body becoming blurred as if the entire scene were an illusion.
"Holy Infant Fruit spirit seed, a fifth-grade spirit herb. It is said that the spirit fruit it bears resembles an infant and can be used as an exquisite material for refining external incarnations."
"Since spirit seeds are generally the least valuable among treasures of the same grade, I am willing to exchange it for a fourth-grade treasure, or perhaps even a rare third-grade treasure."
Upon hearing the thin cultivator's offer, most of the Qi Refining cultivators in the audience, who were unfamiliar with such matters, burst into an excited chatter. To them, the fifth-grade corresponded to the unreachable Core Formation realm, and thus the value of the Holy Infant Fruit soared in their estimation.
Unfortunately, being at the most powerless stage of their cultivation, they could only sigh in longing, feeling the weight of their desire against their inadequate strength.
"Fellow Daoist, your offer is somewhat unreasonable," a light and airy voice rang out from the audience.
"While it's true that the Holy Infant Fruit is a fifth-grade spirit seed, you neglect to mention its aberrant nature. If obtained by a cultivator unaware of its peculiarities, they might end up suffering a great loss."
"Who dares accuse me?!" The thin cultivator's face twisted in anger as he frantically scanned the audience with his spiritual sense.
However, the speaker was no weaker than him and remained elusive, hidden among the crowd.
"Indeed, I failed to provide a complete introduction," the thin cultivator admitted after a moment. "It is said that this Holy Infant Fruit bears a sinister nature. Many cultivators who attempted to cultivate it ended up missing or meeting gruesome ends. Of course, these are just rumors and may not hold much credibility."
Embarrassed and struggling to maintain his composure, the thin cultivator took a deep breath and continued, "As you all know, spirit seeds are generally the least valuable among treasures of the same grade. I am still waiting for a suitable offer."
In the audience, Lu Chen observed the proceedings quietly. Among the gathered cultivators, only a handful had a habit of cultivating spirit herbs, with most focusing on pill refining and artifact forging.
The few interested Foundation Establishment cultivators lacked the confidence to cultivate the Holy Infant Fruit successfully, and the rumors of its sinister nature further dampened their enthusiasm. Thus, despite being a fifth-grade treasure, the number of bidders remained low.
Only three to five cultivators made offers, the highest being a middle Foundation Establishment cultivator who proposed exchanging it for a complete skeleton of a fourth-grade demon beast.
The thin cultivator hesitated, and just as he was about to refuse, a voice whispered into his ear.
"Fellow Daoist, I possess a long section of third-grade Flood Dragon Vine, of excellent quality, along with a third-grade Pure Spirit Talisman, a rare type capable of purging sinister influences. What do you say to exchanging these for your Holy Infant Fruit spirit seed?"
"A fifth-grade spirit seed for two third-grade treasures? That's a terrible deal for me," the thin cultivator replied without hesitation.
"You're well aware of the value of the Holy Infant Fruit spirit seed. These items I've offered are already quite generous." Lu Chen transmitted his reply from the audience, a smile in his voice.
"Very well, then. I'll add another third-grade Pure Spirit Talisman. If you still refuse, then we shall part ways here."
"Agreed. We have a deal." The thin cultivator's reply came swiftly, and Lu Chen's face broke into a satisfied smile.
