Chapter 203: The Stone Pillar's Eagle Nest
Chapter 203: The Stone Pillar's Eagle Nest
Upon entering the Thousand Mountain Stone Forest, Lindsey and Hong's first impression was not of dangerous beasts, treacherous terrain, or even a sense of caution towards the unknown. Instead, they felt remarkably comfortable.
The stone forest was filled with towering pillars, creating a landscape with extreme elevation changes. While this made climbing extremely challenging, it also meant that the temperature varied greatly.
After traveling for over half a day, Lindsey and Hong found a spot with a pleasant temperature. They had left behind the constant humidity of the great forest, and for these two well-conditioned awakened individuals, traversing this terrain was indeed a 'leisurely' journey. One could even say it had a touch of a picnic vibe.
"Lindsey, I hate forests," Hong said, expressing her thoughts freely. "The basin before and this stone forest now are both way better than being stuck in a hot and humid forest."
At that moment, they were perched halfway up a massive stone pillar. Hong shattered a moss-covered boulder, and they sat on the sheer cliff, eyes closed, letting the wind from afar caress their faces.
"This spot seems pretty good to me. How about we rest here for the night?" Hong suggested.
"Sure," Lindsey agreed without hesitation.
He glanced past Hong's flowing black hair and looked up at the sky. The sun's rays were already beginning to hide behind the horizon.
"The two of us can handle this terrain without any issues," Lindsey said. "But at night..."
Although they had equipment and potions to enhance their vision, it was best to avoid unnecessary risks.
As they spoke, Lindsey took out his Meteorite Pickaxe from his bag and struck the stone pillar beside him, creating a hole with two swift strikes.
Hong immediately squeezed into the hole, leaving only her head exposed. She closed her eyes, looking as if she could fall asleep right there, like a worm emerging from the stone.
Lindsey couldn't help but ask, "Is it really that comfortable?"
Hong didn't even want to open her eyes. "Next time we're in the forest, just don't use those weird things, okay?"
Lindsey didn't respond, seeing that Hong had no intention of moving. He continued to swing his pickaxe, widening the cave in the stone pillar to prepare for their dinner.
In the night, an eagle's cry echoed through the sky.
After the previous day's battle, the Black Eagle Clan sent scouts to reconnoiter the area. Despite their excellent vision, they couldn't see through the stone pillars and failed to detect Lindsey and Hong hiding within.
However, Lindsey, concealed in the stone pillar, observed the direction from which the Black Eagles came and left. This confirmed the accuracy of their route.
He opened his map and zoomed in to the maximum range. Finally, on a massive stone pillar, he spotted numerous red dots, matching the intelligence provided by the Black Eagles.
"They didn't lie at all," Lindsey remarked.
"At our current pace, we'll reach them tomorrow. Then we can put an end to this trouble... But since these beasts follow the rule of obeying the strong, perhaps we can do something else after defeating them?" Lindsey pondered for a moment before yawning.
He took out some materials to seal the cave entrance, leaving a few small holes for ventilation, and soon fell asleep in the stone cave.
...
The next morning, before the sun had even risen, Lindsey broke through the stone wall, and he and Hong set off once again.
Due to their gradual approach to the Black Eagle Clan's nest, they had to be cautious and avoid detection, which slowed their progress.
Even so, in the afternoon, the two successfully reached the massive stone pillar.
"Lindsey, what should we do?" Red turned to Lindsey, "Should we go straight up and attack quickly?"
Lindsey's thoughts were clear:
"Our primary target is the Black Eagle King."
"Only this guy among the eagles is a Fifth Stage Monstercraft. Once we take down this leader, the rest of the Black Eagles will scatter."
The situation in Thousand Mountain Stone Forest was like a feudal system, with various races occupying their own territories.
As long as they successfully eliminated the leader, the others would likely disperse, and even if there were remnants, they would be pressured and killed by Monstercraft from other areas.
Even with the Black Eagles' flight advantage, without their leader, who had encountered Dragon Beasts, they were no longer a threat.
Lindsey took out the Eagle Eye Potion he had made the day before and drank it himself, also passing some to Red.
"Here, drink this."
"The effect lasts for about three minutes. Remember to maintain your field of vision."
After using the potion, Lindsey's pupils instantly contracted.
Although the Eagle Eye Potion's enhancement time was short, its effect was extremely exaggerated.
As he looked into the distance, he could now clearly see the top of the stone pillar, and even the floating trajectory of dust particles in the air was visible! This sudden enhancement of vision even brought a brief feeling of dizziness.
Red, who was beside him, trusted Lindsey completely. She took the Eagle Eye Potion and tucked it into her pocket without hesitation, then chugged the first bottle.
She also shook her head like Lindsey.
Lindsey checked on Red:
"Red, are you adjusted to it?"
"No problem!"
"Then let's go!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, the two moved, and in the next second, they were swiftly climbing up the stone pillar.
The Black Eagle Clan's chosen nest was originally an inaccessible precipice for ordinary animals.
But Lindsey and Red were different.
Using the climbing pickaxe and climbing spikes made with the Survival Module, the two could even climb completely vertical cliffs, and with their awakened physical strength, they climbed higher and higher!
"Kree—"
Before long, the two had reached the three-quarters mark of the stone pillar.
The Black Eagles above never expected anyone to attack here, so the first eagle that spotted them couldn't believe its eyes.
Whoosh!
An arrow shot out instantly.
This Black Eagle, who only had time to let out a startled cry, fell from the cliff's edge and became a limp corpse on the ground.
Lindsey and Red's speed increased again.
In the blink of an eye, they reached the top of the stone pillar and found that the top was uneven, with most of the Black Eagles building their nests along the edges.
Only in the center of the pillar's top, a large number of dead branches formed a pouch-shaped nest.
The Black Eagle King, whom they had seen from afar yesterday, was currently perched inside.
"Humans!" Sensing Lindsey and Red's approach, this eagle king became furious, "I don't want to fight you, but you dare to offend me like this!"
The Black Eagle King emitted an intimidating aura.
It was about to flap its wings and take off from the nest.
However, before it could spread its massive black wings, Red had already tossed aside her pickaxe, and her figure leaped high, instantly crossing the dead branches of the nest and reaching right above the eagle king's body.
Whoosh—
The Black Eagle King saw a spear.
The sharp tip of the spear glinted with a venomous green, and a deathly aura enveloped its body.
