Chapter 203: Mission Complete, Contracting a Summoning Beast
Chapter 203: Mission Complete, Contracting a Summoning Beast
Might Guy launched his attack, and Obito fixed his gaze on Iruka. Seeing Iruka's attempt to dodge, Obito immediately rushed forward.
At this moment, Iruka had already made up his mind to take one life for another. So, when faced with Obito's attack, Iruka neither dodged nor evaded; he took the blow head-on and, gritting his teeth against the pain, swung his lightning-infused sword at Obito.
Obito hadn't expected Iruka to counter-attack after taking his punch, and he was too late to react to the incredibly swift lightning sword.
Clang!
Just then, a short blade appeared before Obito's eyes, blocking the incoming lightning sword.
Might Guy quickly kicked towards Iruka again.
"Be careful," Kakashi warned, his eyes fixed on Iruka. "Prevent the enemy from trading injuries."
Unlike Obito and Might Guy, who lacked mission experience, Kakashi had encountered such situations before. When enemies found themselves with their backs against the wall, they would sometimes disregard their own lives and launch a desperate counter-attack.
"I know," Obito replied. "I won't make the same mistake twice. Thanks." As he uttered the last word, Obito's voice became barely audible.
Although these two words were not particularly difficult to say, the thought of expressing gratitude to Kakashi made Obito feel like they were the hardest words in the world to utter. But Kakashi had indeed saved him from injury this time, so he forced them out.
It was unclear if Kakashi was too focused on the battle or simply hadn't heard, but he didn't respond to Obito. His attention remained solely on dealing with Iruka.
Iruka was no weak opponent, and his disregard for his own safety in his attempt to injure them in turn made him even more dangerous. However, faced with the combined assault of the three, Iruka was gradually becoming overwhelmed.
Although he wanted to trade injuries, he couldn't afford to take a direct hit from Obito's Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique. And Kakashi and Might Guy weren't about to let him dodge their attacks so easily.
As the battle wore on, Iruka sustained more and more injuries, while Kakashi and his teammates merely endured stamina and chakra depletion.
"Leaf Great Whirlwind!"
Seizing an opportunity, Might Guy kicked Iruka, sending him flying.
"Lightning Release: False Darkness!"
Kakashi immediately unleashed his most powerful and fastest long-range lightning jutsu.
A thick lightning spear shot towards the airborne Iruka at incredible speed, blasting a charred hole in his body.
"Phew, that's finally taken care of," Kakashi sighed, feeling a sense of relief.
False Darkness was an advanced lightning jutsu that relied on high chakra expenditure for its devastating power. Anyone struck by it would be left half-dead even if they somehow survived.
"These enemies were pretty weak," Obito remarked with a relaxed smile. "We took care of them without even needing Teacher Mu Yue to step in."
Seeing Iruka finished off by Kakashi's lightning jutsu, Obito's smile widened as he began imagining how he would recount the exciting mission experience of the genius ninja-in-training, Uchiha Obito, to Nohara Rin.
From uncovering the client's true dilemma to touching the giant black hawk and swiftly defeating the hostile ninja from the Cloud, and then assisting Kakashi, who was struggling against the final enemy, Obito's mind raced as he crafted the narrative.
Out of gratitude for Kakashi's earlier help, Obito decided to modify the last part, portraying Kakashi's enemy as stronger and emphasizing how they had worked together to overcome the formidable foe.
"Their strength wasn't bad," Kakashi shook his head. "I'd say they were a fairly standard ninja team."
While Obito and Might Guy had limited exposure to official ninjas, Kakashi, with his extensive experience, had encountered numerous ninjas from both his own village and enemy factions. He knew that their opponents weren't incompetent; on the contrary, this team was genuinely strong.
Based on Kakashi's experience, if you disregarded the jounin-level teacher, their overall strength could easily overpower Kakashi's previous class.
Mu Yue, who had been observing the battle from the sidelines, nodded in agreement. She could see that Obito and Might Guy's abilities had grown, and with Kakashi's wealth of experience as a chunin, the three of them could now attempt to take on a jounin of average skill.
"You all performed admirably," Mu Yue said as she stepped forward, a smile on her face. "Your usual training has clearly paid off."
"Teacher Mu Yue," Obito greeted her with a smile.
Hearing Mu Yue's words, Kakashi furrowed his brow in thought before asking, "Teacher Mu Yue, were you nearby just now?"
Mu Yue nodded, not hiding the truth. "When I left, I was concerned that you might encounter enemies, so I created a shadow clone to follow you. But it seems you managed to handle the situation without my intervention."
"Hey, Teacher Mu Yue, how was my Fire Release?" Obito asked eagerly as he stepped forward.
Mu Yue ruffled Obito's hair affectionately and praised him. "Your ability to seize opportunities is excellent, and you didn't waste chakra on ineffective jutsu."
In the past, Obito had relied heavily on his Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique, only to be defeated time and again by Might Guy. Now, he had finally learned to use it strategically to force his opponents into unfavorable positions rather than expecting it to be a surefire solution.
Obito beamed with satisfaction, pleased with Mu Yue's assessment.
Mu Yue was fair and impartial, never showing favoritism towards any one student. She continued to praise Might Guy and Kakashi for their timely support and seamless coordination.
Mu Yue sealed the three corpses into a scroll—three chunin made for a moderately difficult B-rank mission.
"These Cloud ninjas were sent by the mayor to deal with the giant eagle," Mu Yue explained as she shared her findings with her students.
When they heard that the mayor had forced the villagers to pool their money for the eagle-removal mission in order to seize land and forcibly purchase the daughters of residents, all three disciples wore looks of shock.
Even the usually calm and collected Kakashi was taken aback. He couldn't fathom the mayor's motivations. As a leader, shouldn't he want the village to prosper? Why would he resort to such despicable acts of extortion?
"How can there be such evil people in the world?" Obito exclaimed, his face contorted with anger. "If I'd known, I wouldn't have killed those Cloud ninjas. I would have saved their lives instead."
"He no longer deserves to be called human," Mu Yue said, her voice cold.
"Teacher Mu Yue, why don't we use Transformation Jutsu to teach that despicable mayor a lesson?" Tobirama suggested.
Mu Yue shook her head and said, "There's no need for you to get involved. He will inevitably be punished for committing such heinous acts."
Beating him up would be too lenient. The idea that Cloud ninja had earlier was quite appealing.
"Right, Teacher Mu Yue, the description in the mission about the giant eagle harassing the villagers is indeed false. Da Hei only bothered the mayor's household, who had been causing trouble." Tobirama shared the information he had gathered with Mu Yue.
Mu Yue nodded. Then, she stayed on the mountain with her disciples for a week.
Ever since that lunch when they had eaten Mu Yue's roasted pig, the giant black eagle couldn't forget the taste. Every evening when Mu Yue and the others ate, the black eagle would catch some prey and leave it there, eagerly awaiting Mu Yue's reaction.
Initially, Mu Yue ignored the eagle, wanting to test its temperament.
When it didn't receive any delicious food in exchange, the eagle thought it hadn't caught enough prey, so it caught some more, but Mu Yue still didn't give it any.
Seeing the food but unable to eat it, the eagle lowered its head and rubbed it against Mu Yue, its eyes pleading.
If it had been a cat, this gesture would undoubtedly be endearing, but it was a giant eagle with a wingspan of over ten meters. The scene only made Mu Yue feel like a two-meter-tall muscular girl was trying to act cute.
Although the image was a bit abstract, Mu Yue was satisfied with the eagle's personality. He was just looking for a means of transportation and didn't expect the eagle to be of much help in combat.
Mu Yue then tested the black eagle's ability to understand human speech and found that it had decent intelligence and could understand basic commands.
Aside from building affinity with her prospective summoning beast, Mu Yue spent the next seven days training with her disciples, while her shadow clone collected information about the despicable deeds of the mayor downhill.
Ninja truly had an overwhelming advantage over regular people. A simple Transformation Jutsu could provide immense convenience.
On the eighth day, Mu Yue prepared to leave with her disciples, intending to leave a shadow clone behind to handle the remaining matters.
Mu Yue tossed a freshly roasted wild boar to the black eagle.
The eagle was instantly delighted. Although it didn't understand why it was receiving such a treat without having to do anything, the prospect of food was enticing, and it began to devour the meal eagerly.
"Slow down, save some for later. You may not get to eat like this again," Mu Yue said with a smile.
Hearing that it might not get to eat like this in the future, the black eagle paused, its eyes widening in panic as it looked at Mu Yue. It didn't want that to happen.
The black eagle hurriedly pushed the remaining roast pig towards Mu Yue with its claw. It could eat less if that meant having more later.
It thought Mu Yue was displeased with it eating too much.
"It's not that I dislike you eating a lot. It's just that I'm leaving this place," Mu Yue explained.
The black eagle breathed a sigh of relief. It was glad that Mu Yue wasn't upset about its eating habits. It cooed gently and rubbed its head against Mu Yue affectionately.
The black eagle wanted to follow Mu Yue. This hadn't been its original home; it had escaped here after being injured elsewhere. It stayed because there were plenty of wild beasts and the residents fed it, but now the place no longer felt safe.
It remembered the tiny humans who could generate lightning trying to capture it, and Mu Yue's food was delicious. So, it decided to follow Mu Yue.
"If you want to come with me, nod your head," Mu Yue said.
Hearing Mu Yue's words, the eagle nodded rapidly like a chick pecking at rice.
With the eagle's consent, the rest was simple. Soon, they completed the summoning contract.
"Now that you're my summoning beast, I need to give you a name." Mu Yue furrowed her brows in thought.
"How about 'War Eagle'? A giant eagle of war," Tobirama suggested excitedly, eager to participate in the naming process.
The black eagle shook its head rapidly, clearly not a fan of the name.
"Wood Leaf Fierce Eagle! A mighty eagle of the Wood Leaf!" Might Guy laughed heartily and gave a thumbs-up, proud of his idea.
The black eagle pushed Might Guy away with its wing, clearly unimpressed with the name.
Kakashi was speechless. These names were all over the place. After a moment's thought, he suggested, "How about 'Black Bird'? It matches your color."
Mu Yue felt that her disciples' naming sense was quite abstract. Nonetheless, naming the black eagle 'Black Bird' wasn't too bad.
"Let's call you 'Black Feather' then," Mu Yue suggested after a moment's thought.
Although the name didn't carry a deep meaning, it sounded better than 'Da Hei' or 'Black Bird.'
Black Feather rubbed against Mu Yue, satisfied with the name she had chosen.
Mu Yue then informed the client that the mission was complete and that the black eagle would no longer appear in Kawakita Town. Afterward, they returned to Konoha.
As soon as Mu Yue left, her second shadow clone sprang into action. It spread the word about the mayor's misdeeds and then, disguised as a valiant warrior, took care of the mayor.
Mu Yue knew that this wouldn't solve the root problem. Even without Mayor Huang, there would be others like Mayor Lu who would exploit the villagers. However, she couldn't bring about systemic change just yet; her strength wasn't sufficient for such a grand transformation.
In this distorted world, Mu Yue believed that similar scenarios played out in many places. Despite the advanced technological development in the world of ninjas, the social structure remained feudal.
Mu Yue didn't go out of her way to seek out such injustices, but when they occurred right before her eyes, she felt compelled to intervene. If she didn't, all the books she had read in her previous world would have been for naught.
