Chapter 203: It's Coming
Chapter 203: It’s Coming
But if she didn’t report it, having a mysterious Beastmaster constantly watching her home was quite unsettling.
Qiao Sang was torn between the opportunity to bond with Aquariana, a creature as rare as a Divine Beast, and her own safety.
Before bonding with Aquariana, it was no exaggeration to say that any Beastmaster who knew of its existence would use all sorts of methods to get it.
The Mucosnail’s Beastmaster being of a low rank was a relief, but if it were a high-ranking Beastmaster, she feared she might easily end up in a dangerous situation.
If only she could bond with Aquariana right now…
Unfortunately, her Beastmaster Codex only had two pages, so a forceful bond wasn’t an option.
Qiao Sang’s gaze lingered on the unconscious Mucosnail for a full minute before she had an epiphany.
Among the Thirty-Six Stratagems, the best approach was to attack the heart.
Firstly, the Mucosnail was 99.99% likely to have been bonded by a Beastmaster from the Ancient Fog Region.
Secondly, if it was a Beastmaster from the Ancient Fog Region, they probably discovered Aquariana’s trail back there.
After all, both Aquariana and the Mucosnail came from the Ancient Fog Region.
It was highly unlikely that Aquariana had been hiding in the pond behind the Courtyard all this time while a Beastmaster from a distant region managed to find it so precisely.
If this logic held, the person who brought the Mucosnail here was likely the one who made Aquariana flee from the Ancient Fog Region to the Yuhua Region.
Comparing this person to the one who caused Aquariana to flee a thousand miles, even a fool would know which to choose.
"Ding dong…"
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Qiao Sang snapped out of her thoughts and picked up her mobile phone to check the time.
3:44 AM.
Someone ringing the doorbell at this hour was too… intense!
"Xun xun~"
Treasure Seeker, hearing the doorbell, looked curious and wanted to float over to check it out.
Qiao Sang called out to it in time: "Don’t go. The person at the door is likely the Mucosnail’s Beastmaster, and I don’t think they have good intentions."
"Xun!"
Treasure Seeker’s eyes widened, and it quickly floated over to the still sleeping Fangy, calling out to it.
Fangy didn’t react.
"Xun xun!"
Treasure Seeker raised its voice.
"Fangy!"
Fangy seemed to be having a sweet dream, and a stream of drool flowed from the corner of its mouth.
"Xun xun!"
Seeing this, Treasure Seeker wanted to put down the Mucosnail and wake Fangy by pinching its nose, just as it had done with Qiao Sang earlier.
Qiao Sang then said, "Go to the pond and find a way to wake Aquariana. Tell it not to come out, and bring the Mucosnail with you. Let Aquariana see it, but make sure the Mucosnail doesn’t wake up."
"Xun?"
Treasure Seeker tilted its head, not quite understanding.
"The Mucosnail’s Beastmaster is probably here for Aquariana. Go and warn it", Qiao Sang explained.
"Xun xun!"
Treasure Seeker nodded vigorously, indicating it understood, and then carried the Mucosnail with its claws and floated toward the Courtyard.
"Ding dong… ding dong…"
The doorbell continued to ring.
Qiao Sang picked up her mobile phone, slipped on her slippers, and went to the security camera to check the footage.
A man in a black suit, slightly overweight, with narrow eyes and thick lips, appeared on the screen. It was the security guard who had made her feel uneasy the day before.
It seemed her intuition had been spot on…
…
Li Songhai stood at the door, feeling anxious.
The inability to summon the Mucosnail back was making him very uneasy.
In room 1705, Li Songhai had done some reconnaissance a couple of days ago.
It turned out to be a teenage girl who had recently moved in, apparently having bonded with two familiars, likely the same two he had seen the other day.
He had a general understanding of the familiars in the Yuhua Region, but the two he saw the other day were quite rare. He couldn't even name their species.
However, he had a few ideas based on their appearances.
The red-and-white canine familiar was clearly a fire-type. Its aggressive and unwelcoming demeanor, looking like it would explode at any moment, was a typical representation of a Fire Pet Beast.
The other one, a gray familiar with a yellow ring and a scar on its face, was less certain.
It could be a Psychic-type, Dark-type, or Ghost-type.
Li Songhai first ruled out the Ghost-type Companion Beasts.
While the familiar initially seemed like a Ghost-type, a bit of thought revealed that most Beastmasters wouldn't bond Ghost-type Companion Beasts for their first three bonds. For a young girl, it was even less likely.
Next, he ruled out the Dark-type. It was uncommon for students at the school to bond Dark Beasts.
The remaining option, a Psychic familiar, was highly popular among Beastmasters, especially those from powerful families whose children often favored Psychic Pets.
Thus, the gray familiar with the ring was most likely a Psychic-type.
As Li Songhai analyzed this, his anxiety grew.
He couldn't figure out what in this room could prevent him from summoning back his Mucosnail.
The unknown was the most terrifying.
Li Songhai was now preoccupied with the Mucosnail, and less concerned about whether Aquariana was inside.
After all, if a bonded familiar encountered any trouble, it could cause significant damage to the Beastmaster's brain domain.
The brain domain was crucial for a Beastmaster and couldn't be taken lightly.
If something was indeed inside, he would be willing to expose his identity and summon his Initial Beast.
Just as Li Songhai was lost in thought, the girl's voice came through the intercom.
"Who are you?" Qiao Sang asked in a deliberately poor tone, even though she knew who it was.
No one would be in a good mood after being woken up by a doorbell at this hour.
Li Songhai's face brightened, and he quickly replied, "Hello, I'm the security guard for the complex. We met the other day. The thing is, one of my familiars accidentally wandered into this room. Can I come in to look for it?"
Qiao Sang feigned ignorance, "Why don't you just summon it back?"
"That's the problem. I can't summon it back", Li Songhai responded.
"Can't summon it back?" Qiao Sang's voice suddenly rose. "Are you kidding? No familiar can't be summoned back."
Li Songhai suppressed the urge to break down the door and said, "I'm not lying, I really can't."
Qiao Sang listened half-heartedly, but her eyes lit up when she noticed a puddle of water on the floor.
Good, you finally showed up!
At that moment, Treasure Seeker, still holding the unconscious Mucosnail, floated over.
"Xun Xun..."
Treasure Seeker floated to Qiao Sang and shook his head with a helpless expression.
Although he had woken Aquariana, the stubborn creature wouldn't listen to reason. It refused to stay in the pond and insisted on coming out.
"It's okay", Qiao Sang patted Treasure Seeker's head. "You did your best."
Aquariana was highly cautious and wouldn't trust anyone easily. If he told it to stay, it would definitely come out to investigate.
Sure enough, it had come.
