Chapter 202: The Stone Forest Tribes
Chapter 202: The Stone Forest Tribes
Lindsey walked up and poked the Black Eagle lying on the ground.
The creature was completely unconscious, showing no reaction to Lindsey's actions.
He recalled the scene when Red had dragged the Black Eagle back, and couldn't help but joke:
"You dragged it back like that, didn't you worry that you'd damage its brain?"
Red shrugged nonchalantly:
"It's a Monstercraft, its body is sturdy enough."
Lindsey patted the Black Eagle's head, but the creature remained unconscious:
"Even if I do this, it won't wake up?"
Red sneered:
"That just means it's a heavy sleeper, at least better than me."
The two exchanged a few casual jabs.
Later, Red sat down and helped Lindsey process the Black Eagle corpses.
Once they finished, Lindsey walked up to the sole captive, a faint flame igniting on his fingertips.
The flames burned the Black Eagle's body, and the intense pain finally roused it from its unconsciousness.
It instinctively tried to struggle.
But before it could make any unnecessary movements, Red stomped down on it, pinning the creature beneath her foot.
Lindsey extinguished the flames and attempted to communicate using the Beast Language:
"Hey, can you understand me?"
This was a very practical question.
Monstercraft above the Fifth Stage possessed the ability to learn languages, and even those at the Third or Fourth Stage could learn and use the Beast Language.
However, during their half-year journey, Lindsey had come to realize a fact.
The Beast Language was an independent language, not an innate ability shared among all beasts.
And among Monstercraft, there were also those who were illiterate.
Within their own groups, they usually used their own language.
Even the Magmabane, which had never left the Meteorite Crater since birth, didn't know the Beast Language despite being at the Fifth Stage.
Lindsey suspected that the leader of the Black Eagles could understand the Beast Language.
But this particular one, which was only a subordinate, might not.
The Black Eagle on the ground responded:
"Human, just kill me."
Its voice was different from the long, drawn-out cries it made while soaring through the skies, and Lindsey found it almost amusing.
He controlled his expression and asked:
"I can spare your life."
"But you have to tell me, why did your tribe come here and attack us."
Upon hearing this, the Black Eagle's desire to survive surged.
As its leader had said before they set out, the law of the jungle was survival of the fittest, and it almost instinctively replied:
"Fervo discovered that our kin had died at the edge of the forest."
"It thought that the Tree Mother of the great forest was the problem, so it brought us to investigate."
"You two came out of the great forest, so you might know something, and it wanted to capture you and bring you back to the nest."
Lindsey's expression was somewhat surprised.
He had been thinking about how to extract information from the Monstercraft.
But to his surprise, the Black Eagle had voluntarily confessed everything.
Was this creature trying to deceive him?
He had to test it further.
Although there was the precedent of the Blighted Venom Spider, Lindsey, being cautious, asked:
"Has your leader had any contact with the Dragon Beast recently?"
The Black Eagle's expression...
For Lindsey, a human, it was difficult to fully understand the expression of a bird.
But he could see the look in its eyes.
In the yellow pupils, a pure bewilderment appeared:
"The Dragon Beast, isn't that the ruler of the world?"
"It conquered our leader before I was born, and I've never seen it since birth."
"..."
Lindsey nodded slightly and began inquiring about the terrain ahead.
"Is that Qian Shan Shi Lin up ahead?"
In reality, after crossing two mountain peaks, one could already see the towering white stone mountains in the distance. Tall and short stone pillars stood amidst the mountains, with clouds drifting between them, creating a surreal landscape eroded by time.
The Black Eagle immediately replied, "Yes."
Lindsey continued his questioning.
"Tell me about the situation in Qian Shan Shi Lin."
"Qian Shan Shi Lin is vast. We usually move around in the air and on top of the stone forest. Occasionally, we catch gazelles that climb among the mountain sheaths. The leader said that there's a border on the other side, but we've never reached it in our lifetime."
The Red, who was standing on the Black Eagle, interjected, "Apart from you, are there other dangerous Monstercraft in the mountains?"
"The area ahead is our territory," the Black Eagle said, its eyes tense. "Beyond our territory, each clan has its own domain. We patrol the edges of Qian Shan Shi Lin and the Great Forest because we can fly."
Lindsey asked, "What do you know about these clans that occupy their own territories?"
The Black Eagle hesitated before replying, "I... I don't know any more details."
"To the east, there's a group of creatures that can dig tunnels in the mountains. We have almost no contact with them."
After saying this, the Black Eagle added, "But I do know one thing: any clan that can occupy a territory in Qian Shan Shi Lin must have a leader as strong as ours!"
A Fifth Stage Monstercraft can occupy a piece of land.
The journey through Qian Shan Shi Lin might be more challenging than the journey through the Starlight Forest.
After all, before the Dragon Beast's arrival, the Starlight Forest maintained a long period of peace and development under the care of the Mother Tree.
That's why there wasn't any significant chaos.
However, in the complex terrain of Qian Shan Shi Lin, which is completely unmanaged, such a situation won't occur again.
Not to mention, the stone forest terrain itself is more challenging to traverse than a forest.
"To cross this region, we'll probably need to spend more time."
Lindsey sighed softly.
The Black Eagle they were talking to was just a hunter from its clan, so Lindsey didn't expect to get much more information from it.
So, he ended the conversation with a final question:
"Tell me, where is your nest?"
The Black Eagle, being stepped on, answered without hesitation:
"Keep going east, and our nest is on the highest and tallest stone pillar."
"..."
"You're quite obedient," Lindsey couldn't help but tease.
"I told you everything honestly!" The Black Eagle asked nervously, "I submit to your strength, so you'll let me go, right?"
"Red," Lindsey glanced at the Red, who was stepping on the Black Eagle.
"I know," Red immediately lifted her foot.
Then, the two of them stopped paying attention to the Black Eagle lying on the ground and headed straight towards Qian Shan Shi Lin.
When their figures completely disappeared into the forest, their conversation echoed on the pale rocks.
"Lindsey, are you keeping your promise, or do you think it will definitely die?" Red asked.
"What do you think, Red?" Lindsey responded.
"That little bird is only at the Third Stage, with a broken wing and a bleeding wound. Can it survive just lying there on the ground?"
"But if it's smart and clever enough, it might have a chance to live on..."
