Chapter 202: The Ambush
Chapter 202: The Ambush
Chen Chuan suddenly felt that something was amiss. He asked, "Director Cao, am I the only one assigned to this task?"
Director Cao replied, "I'll send Old Feng with you."
Chen Chuan inquired, "May I ask the reason for this decision?"
Director Cao spoke in a grave tone, "Luo Qi likely possesses records of his dealings with Mo Lan Corporation and government officials over the years, and he probably carries a large sum of gold notes. Using these, he might find acceptance within the government, and with the right connections, he could become a high-ranking official in just a few years, sitting face-to-face with us. Therefore, we must eliminate him before he gains that opportunity."
Chen Chuan considered this and nodded, "Director Cao, I understand. I'll set off immediately."
Director Cao said, "It's currently 2:30. If you depart from the Patrol Bureau Headquarters, you should arrive there in half an hour. Their agreed time is 4:00, but it's possible the contact person might arrive early. You may only have half an hour to resolve the issue."
After a brief pause, Director Cao continued, "As the Action Division Director, Luo Qi hasn't engaged in physical combat for a long time. His condition might not be better than when you dealt with Tan Wang, but he has equipment to compensate. So, if there's anything you need for this battle, request it now, and I'll approve it as long as it benefits our cause."
Chen Chuan understood his intent. As long as he undertook this task, even if his demands were excessive, they would be granted. He replied, "Very well, Director Cao. I'll make the necessary preparations now."
Director Cao spoke firmly, "Just focus on the task. There will be no record of this afterward."
Chen Chuan glanced at him and nodded.
After leaving the meeting room, he found Old Feng waiting for him. Accompanied by Old Feng, he obtained a large supply of drugs from the logistics personnel.
This time, he was up against a truly formidable Tier Three opponent, and he only had half an hour. So, without hesitation, he requested a substantial amount of supplies and the best protective gear currently available.
Ten minutes later, he boarded a vehicle and sped off towards the north of the city.
On the way, he continuously drank from a water flask, which contained not just water but also various drugs.
Perhaps others would be concerned about the damage, but with the existence of his Second Self, he could fearlessly use the drugs without worry.
Old Feng, sitting beside him, looked at him with concern and advised, "Chen Chuan, try to minimize your drug usage in the future."
Chen Chuan sincerely thanked him, "Thank you, Agent Feng. I understand."
Old Feng nodded and spoke gravely, "Even if Luo Qi doesn't possess those records, we can't let him live. As the Director of External Operations for Mo Lan Corporation, I have records here of all the deeds he's committed, including numerous killings.
Some of these weren't even assigned by the company but were acts of personal emotional release. Such a person without boundaries shouldn't exist in this world. While we may not represent justice, we also can't tolerate such evil."
Chen Chuan nodded seriously, "I'll take care of him."
At 3:00, the vehicle passed through Wujia Town and gradually approached the container dock area.
"It's just ahead," Old Feng said.
Chen Chuan pondered for a moment and asked, "Can we take advantage of the situation if I go now? He should recognize me, even with my mask on. He could identify me by my build, so there's no chance for a surprise attack, only a head-on confrontation."
Old Feng's expression turned solemn, and he said, "Then be extra cautious. I'll support you from here. If things go wrong, retreat towards the car. At the very least, I can hold him off with my marksmanship."
"Thank you, Agent Feng. I won't hesitate to ask for help when needed," Chen Chuan replied.
Chen Chuan tossed aside the empty water flask, put on his mask and hat, and fastened his scarf. This was to prevent any toxic mist agents he carried from affecting him. While his Second Self could resist it, he preferred to defend against it in other ways if possible.
After readying his preheated Xuejun Blade, Chen Chuan opened the car door and stepped out. He glanced at the warm afternoon sun and took a box from Old Feng. Then, he strode across the smooth, wide cement road towards the container dock area.
After defeating Tan Wang, his Second Self had gained five hours of overlap time. Following the annihilation of the Mutual Slaughter Association, he gained another two hours, totaling seventeen hours now.
However, for this mission, he only had half an hour.
But if he won this battle, he would likely gain more overlap time, taking him one step closer to the twenty-four-hour mark.
Opportunities like this were rare, especially before entering Central City, where they had support and logistics to face their opponents head-on.
So, his strategy for this battle was to trade injury for injury, life for life. Skill alone wouldn't be enough against Luo Qi; only an aggressive, offensive approach might grant him victory.
Before this encounter, Chen Chuan had never met Luo Qi, but he had seen photos of him. At forty-six years old, Luo Qi looked like he was only in his thirties, with a rather handsome face and a hint of ferocity in his eyes. He constantly wore a scowl, giving off an air of gloom.
As Chen Chuan approached with the Xuejun Blade, Luo Qi casually tossed away his cigarette and stood there, saying, "You guys came pretty fast."
"We're in a hurry," Chen Chuan replied.
Luo Qi's gaze fell on the box Chen Chuan was carrying. "Did you bring what I asked for?"
Chen Chuan put down the box and then planted the Xuejun Blade into the ground. "No need for that, Manager Luo. You should've recognized me at first sight."
Luo Qi raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Smart." He glanced past Chen Chuan, "So, you came alone?"
Chen Chuan looked up at him. "Of course not."
"Oh," Luo Qi said.
He stretched his neck and shoulders, his gaze fixed on Chen Chuan. "If someone's after me, they wouldn't send just you few. I guess there must be others coming to intercept me, to prevent me from reaching the government, right?"
Chen Chuan didn't respond. He gripped the hilt of the Xuejun Blade and, as he walked forward, the blade slowly emerged from its sheath.
With limited time, he wouldn't waste words with Luo Qi.
Before this, during the entire journey, Chen Chuan had been communicating with the Xuejun Blade. Even when he met with Commissioner Cao, he didn't sheath it, and now it was ready to connect with his sword force at any moment.
Luo Qi watched him, talking to himself, "The Viper Sect guy from Central City, you took him down, right? Looks like you've already used the drug the Bureau of Administration gave you. You must be the one they promoted, right? Yeah, that's it. I want to see how long your drug's effects will last."
He reached for the hilt of the longsword at his waist and swiftly drew it out. The black blade reflected no sunlight.
Chen Chuan slowly approached, raising the Xuejun Blade. The two men locked eyes, but as Chen Chuan closed in, they both moved simultaneously. In that instant, it seemed like they had both disappeared from a distance.
Luo Qi chose to hold the sword with both hands, pointing it straight ahead. Chen Chuan, also with a two-handed grip, brought his blade down in a vertical slash. With this strike, he showed no intention of dodging.
Seeing Chen Chuan's unwavering stance, Luo Qi's speed initially matched Chen Chuan's. But as he took those two steps, his enhanced tendons in his legs activated, and his speed suddenly surged!
Chen Chuan's expression remained unchanged, and his downward slash remained unaltered.
Luo Qi narrowed his eyes. At this rate, he would surely pierce Chen Chuan's chest, even through his protective gear.
But if Chen Chuan didn't die instantly, the blade would still slash across his body. With his keen observation, Chen Chuan immediately sensed the extraordinary nature of this sword and the strong threat it posed to him.
So, when he saw that Chen Chuan still didn't dodge or evade, even willing to face mutual destruction, Luo Qi had no choice but to change his move at the last moment. He flicked his wrist upward, lifting the sword vertically to deflect the descending blade.
However, due to the abrupt change, Chen Chuan continued his attack without hesitation. With both hands on the hilt, he exerted full force, causing the sword to vibrate in Luo Qi's grip, as if trying to slip away. A powerful force traveled up the blade into Luo Qi's body.
Luo Qi felt a dull pain in his chest and quickly mobilized his altered organs to absorb the force layer by layer. Simultaneously, he utilized the resilience of his implanted tendons to move his body sideways, taking a few steps back to dissipate the force.
Chen Chuan also felt a force traveling up the sword into his body. As he briefly materialized his second self, his body remained unaffected. With a twist of his wrist, he executed a diagonal slash, sending a blade light streaking towards Luo Qi's neck!
